Anyway,AssoonasIgotmyKwid,IbegantoresearchabouttheLGunitonline.Ifoundoutthatitis
runningaheavilyskinnedversionofWindowsCE(NotsurprisingasmostOEM'sdothatanyway).So,I
thoughtthatmaybe,itmightbepossibletoinstallasortofvideoplayertoenablevideoplaybackonthe
device,afteralltheCPUlookedmorethancapabletorun360por480pvideos.Buttheproblemwas,howto
accessWindowsCEthatwashiddenunderneaththeOEMandinstallit.
IfoundoutaboutMenavrusoneday,whichisessentiallyapaidapptoenableextrafunctionalityonthe
MediaNavsbutittoowasexpensiveforme,plusIdon'thaveacreditcard.
BrowsingthroughmanyRussiansitesandotherlanguageswhichIhavenoclueof(thankGodforGoogle
Translate),Ifoundoutaboutanothersoftware.Medi@Skin,whichinstallsCorePlayer(TheVideoPlayer)and
afewothersoftwares.Andbestofall,itwasfree,unlikeMenavrus.Awordofcaution:Thereareafewsites
thattrytosellMedi@SkinbutIthinkthosearefalseasevenMenavruslistsMedi@SkinasFreeware.
Anyway,enoughbackstory,onwiththeinstallation.RequirementsforInstall
1.LGMediaNav(Running4.0.3)Elseyouneedtodowngrade
2.TheMedi@SkinSoftware
3.ALaptoporDesktoptodownloadthefile
4.8GBUSB3.0PenDriveorevenUSB2.0willdo
5.AlittlePatience
YouwillneedtovisittheMedi@Skinwebsitetodownloadthesoftware.IamprovidingithereMedi@Skin
Download.
Now,beforeweproceedanyfurther,youneedtocheckyourfirmwareversion,the1stbatchofKwidscame
with4.0.3firmware,however,theneweronescomewith4.0.4,4.0.5,andsoon.Medi@Skinonlyworkswith
4.0.3firmware.
Topeoplewhohavefirmwareversions4.0.4andup,youwillneedtodowngrade.Forthat,youwillneedthis
file,whichIhaveuploadedtomyG.Driveaccount(Ifoundthisafterscouringthenetforweeks)Firmware
Downgrade4.0.3.
Extractthedownloadedfile.Then,copyitontoafreshlyformattedPendrive,useFAT32,notNTFSorexFAT.
Then,insertthependriveintoyourMediaNavandbootitup.Afterawhile,theupgradescreenwillappear
andaskyouwhetheryouwanttoupgradeto4.0.3[Itsaysupgradeinsteadofdowngrade,wonderwhy].
Anyway,acceptthepromptsandafterthedowngradehasfinished,checkyourfirmwareversion,youshould
beon4.0.3now.
Now,backtothefilewedownloadedearlierfromMedi@Skinwebsite.Youwillseetwofolders.Bothofthem
areessentiallythesame,however,oneofthemisforhardcodingthenewfirmwarepermanentlyintothe
device,whiletheotherisforinstallingthefirmwareontoaPendriveinstead.I'mgoingtobeshowingyou
howtoinstallitontotheUSBdriveinsteadsothatwedon'tvoidthewarrantyonourdevices,andthe
firmwarewillbeinstalledontheUSBdriveonly.
InMedi@skin_v2_Cl_USBfolder,you'llgettwosubfolders.
Copyupgrade_root.lgu,CorePlayer,Igo8,Logiceletc.totherootofyourpendrive.Remember,thePenDrive
mustbeformattedagaintoFAT32forthistowork.
AfterthistakethependriveandinsertinMediaNav.TurnMediaNavon,aftersometimeanupgradescreen
willappear,installtheupgrade.Afterthis,thedevicewillrebootandMediaSkinisnowinstalledonyour

MediaNav.
Afterthat,allyouneedtodoisjustconvertthevideosyouwanttowatchonyourKwid,orDusterorLodgy
andstorethemonthevideosfolderonthePenDrive.Dokeepinmindthattheprocessorisancient(running
@533MHzifIremembercorrectly)andthemeasly256MBRAM(again,IIRC)doeslittletohelpplayingHD
videossmoothly.
I'vetesteditinvariousresolutions,upto1080p(abittoomuchbutwantedtoseehowmuchthesystem
couldtake),andthebestoneIfoundisMP4at480pwitha2100bitrateandaudioinanMp3container,at
128KBps.However,feelfreetoexperiment.Igottiredofconvertingvideosinawhileandjuststopped.
Onethingtonote,beforestartingMedi@Skin,remembertoplaytheIAmuet.mp3fileonthePenDriveinthe
stockmusicappsothatvideoswillhavesoundinCoreplayer.Otherwise,theradiosoundwillkeepon
playinginbackground.
Ihaven'tuploadedanypicturesbecauseIfeelthatinstallingMedi@Skinisrelativelysimple.However,Iwill
bemorethanhappyifrequestedtodoso.

asfollows:
a.Thistweakenablesthevideotokeeponplayingregardlessofvehiclespeed.
b.ThescreensizeonourMediaNavisroughly800x648pixels(I'moutofstationatthemomentsocan't
confirm,roughlyestimating),thuswhileplaying480pvideos,wecanseeblackbarsonthetop,bottomand
sidesofthedisplay.640palsoisgoodandremovestheblackbarstoanextentbutthenthevideobecomes
choppyastheancientprocessorisunabletorenderproperlyandframeratesdrop.
P.S.IwilluploadaproperpicturetogiveyouanestimatewhenIreachbackhomedayaftertomorrow.
c.Toplaytheaudiofile,wemustopenmusicappwhileinOEMSkin,selectourPenDrivefromdropdown
menu,andplaytheIAmuet.mp3file.Ithinkthesystemdoessupportmultitaskinginthisrespect.

OneofthefirstthingsididafterbringingtheKwidhomewasmap&firmwareupdate.Sobeforegettingtoknowthe
technicalitiesofenablingvideo,iinadvertentlyupgradedto4.0.6.Theniwentlookingforsystemaccessforvideo
playback&cameacrossMenavrus&Mediaskin.Theformerispaid&thelatterneeds4.0.3.Ihadtoshelvetheplan
sinceicouldn'tfindtheolderfirmwareanywherethenforareflash.
Fastforward,thisthreadhappened.Anditworks.Also,even4.0.6isnowsupportingMediaskinversionsbuti
downgradedto4.0.3alreadybeforereadingthat.Itstillworks,sobeit.

Resolution400x225@3000kbpsw/128kbpsaudio
