This course is designed to be the student's first high school science course.
Typically, a student takes this course during the same year that he or she is
taking Algebra 1 or has previously completed Algebra 1. Exploring Creation
with Biology is a college-prep biology course that provides a detailed
introduction to the methods and concepts of general biology. With a strong
emphasis on the vocabulary of biology, the course provides the student with
a strong background in the scientific method, the five-kingdom classification
scheme, microscopy, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian
genetics, evolution, dissection, and ecosystems. Weekly lab experiments, lab
write ups, study guides, and tests are all completed in class and as
homework

In this course, students learn how to bring writing to life through
assignments designed to be of interest to middle and high school students.
There will be a heavy focus on grammar and punctuation rules this year. We
will incorporate Daily Grams, Easy Grammar, and Wordly Wise for vocabulary
development and spelling. We will read a minimum of two novels this year.
Novels will be chosen and communicated to parents prior to purchase once
registration is complete.
Throughout this course, they will learn to build their writing, starting with
solid five paragraph essays complete with an introduction, body, and
conclusion. Regardless of the student's past experience with essays, this
course will build the student's confidence in
We will incorporate various forms including descriptive, expository, and
persuasive responses, along with regular exposure to novel reading from
renowned authors meant to challenge students to learn how to use context
clues as well as word study to improve their understanding and use of
vocabulary.
Each piece of writing produced in this class will be critiqued in context
based on grammar, mechanics, and content.
Expect homework at least four days a week with an approximate time
commitment of a half hour each day.
