Algebra 1 is made up of five instructional components: Introduction of the
new concept, examples with complete solutions, practice of the increment,
daily problem sets, and cumulative tests. Saxon Algebra 1 covers topics
typically taught in a first-year algebra course along with a full semester of
informal geometry.

Saxon Algebra II
Teacher Kris York
Tuesdays & Thursdays 12:45-2:15
September- May
One-time Materials Fee - $20
*Monthly Tuition - $60
Traditional second-year algebra topics, as well as a full semester of informal
geometry, are included with both real-world, abstract and interdisciplinary
applications. Topics include geometric functions like angles, perimeters, and
proportional segments; negative exponents; quadratic equations; metric
conversions; logarithms; and advanced factoring.

first systematic introduction to the sciences, this course includes a history of
science, the scientific method, and how to design an experiment. Subjects
covered include simple machines, archaeology, geology, paleontology,
biology, and human anatomy and physiology. Weekly lab experiments, lab
write ups, study guides, and tests are all completed in class and as
homework.

Apologia Physical Science

September- May

One-time Lab Fee - $85

Monthly Tuition - $60
Recommended for 8th and 9th grade this course is designed to be the last
science course the student takes before high school biology. Exploring
Creation with Physical Science provides a detailed introduction to the
physical environment and the basic laws that make it work. The fairly broad
scope of this book provides students with a solid understanding of the
earths atmosphere, hydrosphere, and lithosphere. Students will also cover
weather, motion, Newton's laws, gravity, the solar system, atomic structure,
radiation, nuclear reactions, stars, and galaxies. Weekly lab experiments, lab
write ups, study guides, and tests are all completed in class and as
homework.

Apologia Biology
Teacher Michelle Tvedt
Tuesdays & Thursdays 10:30-12:00
September- May
One-time Lab Fee - $95
Monthly Tuition - $60
This course is designed to be the student's first high school science course.
Typically, a student takes this course during the same year that he or she is
taking Algebra 1 or has previously completed Algebra 1. Exploring Creation
with Biology is a college-prep biology course that provides a detailed
introduction to the methods and concepts of general biology. With a strong
emphasis on the vocabulary of biology, the course provides the student with
a strong background in the scientific method, the five-kingdom classification
scheme, microscopy, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian
genetics, evolution, dissection, and ecosystems. Weekly lab experiments, lab
write ups, study guides, and tests are all completed in class and as
homework

Language Arts

In this course, students learn how to bring writing to life through
assignments designed to be of interest to middle and high school students.
There will be a heavy focus on grammar and punctuation rules this year. We
will incorporate Daily Grams, Easy Grammar, and Wordly Wise for vocabulary
development and spelling. We will read a minimum of two novels this year.
Novels will be chosen and communicated to parents prior to purchase once
registration is complete.

Throughout this course, they will learn to build their writing, starting with
solid five paragraph essays complete with an introduction, body, and
conclusion. Regardless of the student's past experience with essays, this
course will build the student's confidence in
We will incorporate various forms including descriptive, expository, and
persuasive responses, along with regular exposure to novel reading from
renowned authors meant to challenge students to learn how to use context
clues as well as word study to improve their understanding and use of
vocabulary.
Each piece of writing produced in this class will be critiqued in context
based on grammar, mechanics, and content.
Expect homework at least four days a week with an approximate time
commitment of a half hour each day.

American Government Semester 1

oriented so that students can demonstrate what they have learned.
We will be focusing on the Presidential Campaign this year and have our own
"classrooms" on C-SPAN Classroom and Scholastic online.
This class will meet all graduation requirements and assignments are
based on the Washington State Essential Learning Standards.
Homework will be assigned each week that will take roughly 2 hours to
