Monday, Commander Randall and I met with


Cloquet School District staff to discuss the
possibility of placing a School Resource Officer
in the schools. I will present more information on
the outcome of that meeting in the near future.
Staff attended a meeting with the Carlton County
Drug Abuse Task Force to discuss future plans to
host a Cloquet area educational forum.
Staff attended a meeting with the SANE group to
discuss upcoming changes to protocols related to
responding to calls for service involving sexual
assaults. We are also planning September
training for our officers to better investigate and
document cases of domestic assault involving
strangulation offenses.

On July 7, officers responded to a local retail


store for the report of a shoplifter. Upon
arriving, our officer observed the suspect
fighting with the loss prevention officer and
resisting arrest by an off-duty Carlton County
Deputy. The 23-year-old Cloquet man was taken
into custody. During a search incident to arrest,
a hypodermic syringe was located on his person.
The male was lodged at the county jail on
charges of theft, disorderly conduct, assault and
possession of a hypodermic syringe.

On July 11, officers made contact with a


suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of 15th
Street. During the investigation, a
passenger in the vehicle, a 23-year-old
Cloquet woman was found to have an
outstanding warrant for her arrest. During
the search of her person, the woman was
found to have a quantity of suspected
methamphetamine in her possession. The
woman was lodged at the county jail and
charged with 2nd degree controlled
substance crime and related charges.
Also on July 11, officers made contact
with a suspicious male in the 800 block of
18th Street. The male was found to have
an outstanding warrant for his arrest and
was taken into custody. During a search
incident to arrest, the male was found to
have what was believed to be five
Gabapentin pills on his person. The male
was lodged at the county jail for the
outstanding warrant along with a charge of
possession of a legend drug.
On July 14, officers stopped a vehicle for
speeding near Slate Street and Glenwood
Avenue. During the stop, officers
detected an odor of marijuana coming
from the vehicle. The male driver, a 21year-old Esko man was found to be in
possession of marijuana as well as several
different prescription drugs. The male
was lodged at the county jail on charges of
5th degree drug possession and related
charges.
