THE GIANTS HAVE ARRIVED

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Robina,QLD | After winning 4 of their last 5 games, the Gold Coast
Giants are finally gaining respectability. That was not only
confirmed but it was highlighted as the defeated the Townsville
Marlins 28-23 on Sunday evening.
I think we are now turning potential into results. Thats
often the biggest step a young team can take so its exciting said
Tony Bell who has guided his team through many years of poor
results. You have to have continuity. Look at what Brisbane went
though. Look at Townsville. You have to believe in what you are
doing throughout the organisation and that is what we have here
right now he said.
The Marlins shocked Townsville with the win and at the
end of the day the victory came down to an ounce of luck. you
make your own luck dont you. It is funny when things are not
going your way, that ball bounces into the arms of a Marlin and
they score. Now we are putting some wins together, (Mal) Moylan
gets it and takes it the distance Bell was reflecting on the key
play late in the first quarter. The Giants were already leading 7-3
when Quarterback Luke Asotasi scrambled to his left. He fumbled
as he was tackled and the marlins scrambled towards the bobbling
ball. Moylan was closest and after scooping possession up he
turned to his left and into daylight. With too much speed for the
close defenders Moylan ran the ball in for a score from 50 yards
out.
Townsville area great team and they kept fighting hard
all the way. What was lacking was the usual scoring punch and
they twice had to settle for field goals to send the teams in
separated at 14-9 at the half. I think we were a little rusty after
the bye lamented Coach Chris Simpson. I am not too worried
because we played the game out. We did not give up but our
execution was a little off and I think we can get that back quickly.
Asotasi was again featuring his Fullback Kane Dunn who
has proved productive on swing passes out of the back field. And
Dunn also helped with the run game crashing over for a score at
the start of the 4th for a 21-9 lead. Townsville Tight End Mosese
Tepania replied with an 11 yard scoring reception before Harrison
Lee broke the game open with a 70 yard run as the Giants were
trying to close out the game. Patrick Gill had an off night with 3
interceptions but he nearly dragged his team back into it when he
hooked up late with James Jones for another score and when the
marlins recovered the onsite kick anything was possible. However
Gill was sacked tyring to thrown a hail mary into the end zone to
see the game finish with the Giants deserving winners, 28-23.
