TODDNIKS

Natives to Shadowfell, these undead are not created, but are

born. Legends sometimes speak of them in a similar manner
to Tieflings. While Tieflings ancestors made deals with
devils, it is said that the Toddniks made deals with the first
ever (and also obscenely powerful) lich; some even accuse
them of having struck bargains with the grim reaper itself.

Culture

Toddniks are raised believing that they were the first type of
undead, and also the only one created naturally. All others,
from skeletons to vampires, are either unnatural
amalgamations of necrotic magic , or primitive spirits that
'evolved' through sheer chance. The truth of this is highly
debated between Toddniks and other undead races such as
Vampires and Liches. They do not age once they have
reached adulthood, and only reproduce to replace the few
that are destroyed.

Physiology

Toddniks appear human to many, but upon closer inspection

are anything but. Their bodies are thin, and their skin
appears to cling to their bones. Dispite this, they are no
weaker than your average man. Only the very strongest
Toddniks can build visible muscle; those that do are often
stronger than ogres. Their skin appears dark and bruised,
often appearing in shades of brown, blue and purple, like the
spots of rot on a corpse. It clings to their skull, with deep set
eyes inside the eye sockets and a gaping hole where would
usually be a nose. The eyes in their skulls have white circles
amongst black pools. They have no mouth, right down to a
skeletal level, and their jaw is fused with the rest of their skull.
They do have hair, although in actual fact the little hair on
their head is in fact long, thin, black feathers. Quite possibly
the most abnormal feature of them, other than the lack of
mouth, is their feet. In place of them, they have the feet of
vultures, complete with claws and skin.

Naturally Psionic
Toddniks gain 3 bonus power points at 1st level. This benefit
does not grant them the ability to manifest powers unless
they gain that ability through another source, such as levels in
a psionic class. As well as this, all Toddniks are able to
communicate telepathically with any sentient creature they
are aware of.

Deaths Children

A forced inability to fulfil the same basic needs most living

creatures have are part of what give Toddniks their unsettling
appearance. Lacking a mouth, Toddniks do not need to eat,
drink, or breathe. While they do need sleep, sleep to them is
more a state of meditation. Therefore, they are not concerned
with a comfy bed or removing their armor to be fully rested.
Toddniks get a bonus 2 to endurance and 1 to wisdom, but
have -2 to charisma, and have a natural proficiency in Stealth
and Arcana.

Toddniks are resistant to poison, and completely immune

to disease and necrotic damage due to their state of
permenant death. Due to them making their homes in deep
the deep underground labyrinths in shadowfell, they have a
bonus favoured terrain of mazes, as well as the ability to see
normally in total darkness. This does not replace a rangers
chosen favoured terrain. When reduced to 0 hitpoints,
Toddniks are knocked unconcious, and do not need to make
death saving throws. However, if their hitpoints go further
into the negatives than their maximum hitpoints, or if their
brain is completely crushed or burned, then they are instantly
dead; no chance for revival, and unable to be resurrected by
anything other than reality warping magic (such as a wish).
Toddniks can also not be healed by natural means; only by
spending hit dice.

Necrotic Magic
Because of their nature, Toddniks are naturally skilled in
necromatic magic. When rolling dice to determine the
outcome of a necromancy spell, add 2 to the each dice. If the
spell requires an opponent to make a saving throw, they roll
with disadvantage. As well as this, Toddniks are able to
modify certain spells. For the spell "Speak with Animals" and
"Animal Friendship", mindless undead count as animals. For
the cantrip "Druidcraft", a plant being dead does not hinder
your attempts.
