I believe that everyone has the responsibility to share knowledge and that receiving an
education is our right. As education is the process of how we teach and what we teach is the
comprised knowledge of what we ourselves have acquired in our own schooling and life
experiences, as a teacher I want to excite students to desire to learn and question and share
knowledge themselves. This will be accomplished while ensuring that the student feels safe,
comfortable and un-judged in our classroom and for them to enjoy learning as much as I enjoy
teaching. Encouragement and motivation is my teaching philosophy.
I intend to teach Bilingual Education in Spanish and English. Most ESL students arrive
in class feeling nervous and alienated due to their cultural and language differences. I will
respect those differences and use curriculum and activities that will allow the students to learn at
their individual pace. I will also utilize a mentorship program with the students who are
struggling, allowing those who are adapting faster to help those in need. As Paulo Freire stated,
Education can help the oppressed overcome their status as long as they play a role in their own
education. (Hall, Quinn and Gollnick) Learning English is not about memorization, it is about
learning to think in English. An example of my teaching activities would be reading English
cartoons from the newspaper in the morning or watching a short learning film in English then
discussing what the piece was talking about in both languages. I will show the students that
learning is fun and helping each other reach their goals can be liberating and joyous it will open
up their world and help them love to learn and help others. We are all just here in this world for
the blink of an eye, we need to teach children to be good citizens as well as good students.
To help successfully reach these goals I will endeavor to implement a classroom
environment that has clear expectations, and more of a preventive and supportive atmosphere
when it comes to discipline. The students will be allowed to express themselves in creative ways

and learn not to fear asking questions. There will be an environment of respect for each student
and teacher at all times. I will use informal assessments throughout the school year targeting
students specific problem areas and adapting instruction as needed. In addition, I plan to include
the parents and caregivers as part of the teaching process. It is imperative that we all work as a
team to help the student be as successful as he or she can be.
I have always loved learning and will share that same love and curiosity for learning with
all the children I am privileged to teach.
