Executive Summary
In the following internship report I will talk about how I became an intern for magazine company
Bloggazzwithattitude. The responsibilities and activities I carried out during my time in the
organization. In addition, I will give a small description of the organization, goals and what it
stands for. I will also explain how my daily work tasks as an intern helped me to further my work
experience.
Also in this report I will go more in depth and explain what my expectations were when I started
the internship and how Baruch classes helped me with my daily work activities. Finally, I will
report on how I became the new social media manager and a specific theory I applied from one
of my classes on Baruch into my internship daily tasks.

Personal Insights
Since January 2016 I have been working in an amazing magazine company Bloggazwithattitude.
I started working with the company due to an internship class I needed to take in Baruch College.
Before I started my internship I was in a phone interview with the Editor Chief Jakk Doe. He
seemed like a nice and very cheerful guy. Jakk gave me the internship right away after the phone
call. I started working in January 29, 2016. In the beginning my internship duties were the one of
a simple social media manager assistant. My supervisor Lexie and I would make sure that the
blogs were running smoothly and that she was updated with all the articles and news from the
social media manager. Lexie taught me how to run social channels effectively and concise.
I feel like I learned a lot in the internship more than from my past internship. Since the company
is small, I was being assigned more important duties. Soon enough and after only one month and
a half, in March 23, Lexie left the company and I was the new social manager, I was the one who
needed to make sure that my social media team were working. The new position although
exciting was challenging but until today I can say I will never regret to be a part of
Bloggazzwithattitude. This internship has helped me to really give a meaning to my goals when I
graduate with my Corporate Communications Major. My classes in Baruch also helped me a lot
to do all the responsibilities a social manager is responsible for.
Internship Activities
As I said before when I started in the company I was only a part of the social media team and at
the time the assistant manager of the head of the team, Lexie. My daily tasks were to update all
media channels, from Instagram to Facebook and Twitter.

Not only that, I was the one who needed to read all the articles of the day and made sure I knew
all the content so I can give a brief review to Lexie. She used the information to look for further
possible interviews that Jakk, our boss, might do in the future. My expectations when I started
the internship was to be very respectful with my supervisors and never said no or express my
opinion if I believe my supervisors were wrong. My last internship was like that so I just follow
the pattern. It was a big surprise to see Lexie and Jakk treating me like a friend and open to the
new ideas I have for the online magazine. My boss Jakk even asked for advice of how to get
more interviews with different people in the entertainment field since I had some experience
doing that. Another expectation was that I will be the one writing the articles and then post in
online but that was not the case. The social media team was only responsible of the social media
channels and to update and run them smoothly. I was really surprised that all my expectations
were wrong and glad at the same time because it made me feel really comfortable working for
the magazine.
Also other of my duties was the advertising part of the blog. I used to call different companies
like makeup, clothes and such so we can put them in our media channels and get revenue from
the publicity. I realized after one month of doing my work that the coursework I did in Baruch
really helped me during my daily activities. I was doing memos, executive summaries, video
editing and planning new marketing strategies. All of which I learned from my communications
and marketing classes. I was happy to finally implement my academic knowledge into my work
field. The only thing I thought Baruch was lacking is an actual class on social media. I believe
this would be very helpful for some students that decide to focus on internships like mine.
Future Goals

Internship Project

Before this internship I was not clear enough of my goals after I graduate from college. After
spending my time as a social media manager I have decided to do a Masters in Business
Administration in Entrepreneurship so I can have my own business. Jakk my boss has showed
me the benefits of running your own business and how this can result in a lot of future
accomplishments for an individual. Also I decided to do a second Masters in cybersecurity
because I really enjoy the programming part of my internship. In this part of my internship I
needed to make sure that the webpage and the database of the online magazine was configured
correctly and that we do not have any technical difficulties.
The hard work and all the emphasis I put in my internship were not ignored by my boss. He
started noticing that I was working a lot of hours and making sure we grew as a company and, in
April I began to run the channel by myself because my supervisor left the blog. It is in that time
that I became to be the social media manager and the work got a little more challenging. After a
few days I started having problems organizing myself to run the social media channels and make
sure all of them were up to date. Lexie was the one that was doing that and since I took over I
needed to put more hours on the channels. In the beginning I was updating two times a day but
then when Lexie left I started to doing it three times a day. After some time, I got used to running
everything myself and I just updated twice a day again but this time I put all the articles in the
social media channels.
Before I was putting only two articles every two hours even thought if there were other article
already in the blog. So what I started doing is to upload all the articles in the afternoon put them
in the channels and then look for more in the night and upload them to the social channels. It
was definitely hard going from social media team member to social media manager but as my
knowledge increased thanks to the advice from my boss the job got easier.

Corporate Communications Concepts in the work field:

During my internship I got to implement a concept from my Corporate Communications Class
4000. In COM 400 I learned about something called Crisis Management which is the actions a
company takes to deal with a situation that can affect its reputation. In April 15, the blog went
under a really rough path because the social media team lost almost all its members and I was the
only one running the blog. It was really chaotic because our magazine is known for updating
every day and interacting with our public through social media channels. Since I was running
everything by myself I was caught with more work than I could handle.
I found really quick solutions for the problems since in my COM 4000 I learned the steps of how
to do it. First in a crisis like this it is really important to think critically and not panic under any
circumstances. Second you must prepare in advance and see what problems the company might
have in the future. I already saw the understaffing of the blog coming due to the fact that the
semester was coming to an end and many will be graduating soon, so I brought a friend to help
me with the social media channels.
It is also an important part of the blog to respond to all the followers of our social media
channels. The reputation of an online company is really attached to the opinions of the users of
all our social media channels. Since we so far had built a reputation for being an daily online
blog, the fact that it stopped for a few days really affected our reputation and brand name. Many
people complained about the lack of new articles. Thankfully once again, the most important
part of resolving a crisis is to respond to the problem with a solution as soon as possible. So after
only one day of understaffing I launched a small give away for the first ten users that participate

in a small survey of how to improve the company. This worked really well with our follower.
They took the giveaway as an apology for the lack of new updates and the survey as a way that
we were interested to solve the problem of the company as fast as we could.
Conclusion
So far my internship is going well and I decided to stay a little more because my boss needs new
people for the social media team since many of the members left due to personal reasons. I have
been asked by him to go and assist him with the interviews he does. This really is a part that
I never have done and am excited to do. I will be leaving the organization as soon the restructure
of the social media team is done but I will never forget all the good advice and work experience
I got from this internship. The things I learned from my internship of how to manage multiple
social media channels and be a good social media manager will always be with me and help me
with future jobs. I also believe that the course work from Baruch was really helpful. I will
recommend future students of the Corporate Communications major to learn the theories that are
taught
