DiscussionofTheory:
The regulated dc power supply is designed to be use in application such as
poweringoperationalamplifier,pushpull,logiccircuits,anddefinitionwhereplusand
minus are required to track with in significant error and in application where three
independent power supplies housed in a single package represent an operating
convenience.
Aregulatedpowersupplyisusedtoensurethattheoutputremainsconstanteven
if the input changes. A regulated DC power supply is also called as a linear power
supply;itisanembeddedcircuitandconsistsofvariousblocks.Theregulatedpower
supplywillacceptanacinputandgiveaconstantdcoutput.Thestepdowntransformer
willhelptostepdownthevoltagefromtheacmainstotherequiredvoltagelevel.The
turnsratioofthetransformerissoadjustedsuchastoobtaintherequiredvoltagevalue.
Theoutputofthetransformerisgivenasaninputtotherectifiercircuit.Rectifierisan
electronic circuit consisting of diodes which carries out the rectification process.
Rectification is the process of converting an alternating voltage or current into
correspondingdirect(dc)quantity.Theinputtoarectifierisacwhereasitsoutputis
unidirectionalpulsatingdc.Usuallyafullwaverectifierorabridgerectifierisusedto
rectifyboththehalfcyclesoftheacsupply(fullwaverectification).Abridgerectifier
consistsoffourpnjunctiondiodes.

Procedure:
1. Designaschematicdiagramwitha220VACsourceusingthemultism.The
schematicdiagram
2. Runthecircuitandmeasuretheoutputvoltageusingthemultimeter.
3. Testthecircuitonabreadboardfortheactualreadingontheoutput.
4. Ifthedesiredoutputismet,putthecircuitintheultiboardandprintthelayouton
anacetate.
5. Immediatelyputtheprintedlayoutonthecopperboardandletitsettle.
6. Immersetheboardintotheetchingsolutionfor10minutesoruntilthe
surroundingcopperisremoved.
7. Rinsetheboardanddrytheboardandremovethepatternofthelayout.
8. Usingadrill,produceholesonthespecifiedareaswherethecomponentswillbe
placed.
9. Puteachcomponentonitsplacesanduseasolderingirontoholdthecomponents
inplace.
10. Plugthecircuitboardtotestfortheoutput.

ThefirstboxshowsthetransformerwiththeACsource.Atransformerof220
turns as the primary winding and 18 turns as the secondary was used by the group
becausetheoutputcomingfromthesecondaryproducesatleast20ACvolts.Thefuse
wasputtheretobeanindicationifthegrouphadafaultintheconnections.
Thesecondboxshowsthebridgetypefullwaverectifier.Thecentertappedfull
waverectifierrequiresdoublethenumberofsecondaryturnsthanthatofabridgetype
whenaimingforaspecificoutputvoltage.Forthisreason,thegroupusedthebridgetype
overacentertappedrectifier.Also,thebridgetypeismoreefficientthanthatofacenter
tappedrectifier.
Thethirdboxshowsthecapacitorusedbythegroup.A220Fcapacitorwas
usedforit produces small ripple voltageduringthe computation andsimulation. An
820F capacitor has been thought as an alternative capacitor for the groups circuit
becausetheripplevoltagethiscapacitorwouldproduceissmallerthanthe220F,but
duetoscarcityofthesupply,theideaofthisalternativewasdiscarded.
Thefourthboxshowsa390resistorinserieswiththezenerdiode1N4747A.
Thezenerdiodehasavalueof24V.Thiszenerdiodewasusedforitistheoutputthe
groupwantedtohave.Soifthisdiodegoestoonstate,thevoltageacrosstheload
resistorwillbethesameasthis.
Thelastboxshowstheloadresistanceof4.64k.Duringcomputation,this
resistor,withthe390 resistor,activatesthezenerdiodetoonstate.Sincethezener
diodeisononstate,thevoltageacrossthisresistoristhesameasthevoltageacrossthe
zenerdiode.
