Physical Description The Stator Coil Water System consists of a stator coil water supply unit, stator coil water reverse flushing unit, associated piping to and from the generator, and generator water passageways designed to cool the stator coil windings and other generator components using demineralized water as a cooling medium. Generator components designed for water cooling include hollow stator coils and parallel rings. The stator coil water supply unit is normally located on the floor beneath the generator. The unit contains the majority of devices that make up the Stator Coil Water System, The Stator Coil Water System stainless stee! piping between the unit and the generator is installed during erection of the turbine generator. Makeup water is provided to the stator coil water supply unit from the boiler feed system or from the power plant demineralizer water system, Raw cooling water for the water coolers is also provided to the stator coil water supply unit from the power plant cooling water system. Raw cooling water must not be confuised with the demineralized water that circulates through the generator from the stator coil water supply unit. The demineralized water has a very low conductivity value, 1.3. Functional Description The Stator Coil Water System is a self contained system that circulates demineralized water through current-carrying components of the generator stator. The Stator Coil Water System has many redundant components to help ensure that the flows, pressures, temperatures, and conductivity of the stator water are Kept at acceptable values. If any of the primary components are unavailable, the system contains a backup component to help prevent loss of demineralized cooling water. Redundant components in the Stator Coil Water System include the water circulating pumps, the water coolers and the water filters. 1.4 Water Connections to the Generator Cold water is piped thru the generator shell into a circumferential manifold in the one end of the generator. The cold water inlet piping is equipped with a temperature detector for temperature monitoring and a thermostat for alarm purposes. An inline cone-shaped strainer is installed to prevent admission of larger dirt into the hollow stator conductors. Inside the generator, water flows from the inlet manifold into the coil ends thru ‘Teflon insulating hoses. Water discharges from the stator coil atthe other end, is collected by hoses and a discharge DOCUMENT NO.: TR/YQOA460F565 Page 4 of 25 i AA kip ; ‘STATOR COOLING WATER TIRODA THERMAL POWER ZC JB | system operation AND | PROJECT 1980 MW (2x6G0 MW SHANGHAY ELEGTRIS | MAINTENANCE MANUAL PHASE I + 1x660 MW Phase I) manifold, and is retumed to the water tank. The both inlet and discharge manifolds are interconnected at the high point with a vent line which also serves as an anti-siphoning line. This vent is continued to the water tank. The both manifolds are connected with a differential pressure transmitter to indicate at local and send pressure drop across the stator coils to DCS. They are also connected with differential switches for alarm for abnormal pressure drops across the stator coils. The hydrogen-water differential pressure switch is connected both below defoaming tank (high pressure side) and water inlet piping (low pressure side). The high pressure side is a signal of gas pressure in generator and the low pressure side is an inlet water pressure of stator coils, This switch is also connecied an inlet water pressure gauge at low pressure side, When the generator gas pressure drops to 35kPa above the inlet water pressure, an alarm is actuated, 1.5 Water Tank The Stator Coil Water System has a pressurized water tank 1OMKFOSBBO01 designed to act as a degasification reservoir for water in the system and as a supply of water for the water circulating pumps. The tank also acts as an expansion device for thermal changes in the system. The tank consists of a stainless steel tank with a manhole cover, sight gauge 10MKFOSCLO01, three stage level switch LOMKFOSCPOO1, drain valve, combined vent connection, and piping, The water tank also has valves and piping for pressurization, pump feed, water retum from the generator, and draining and filling operations. ‘The level switch will sent the level high or low when the level rise to high alarm position or drop to low level alarm position, and actuate the solenoid vaive to permit water makeup. Refer to Fig 1 Water Tank Level Operation to set level switch alarm position. roreemossen Fa i _- roracerwe anew porasermnssorew | = _—~ POTSSETTINGSCREW ve ews TS FH eso, a seen | #8 = wee Soma are oc sen iste! It operates at "makeup water off” level to shutoff the admission of water. d) Pot 1- high actuating level. It operates when water level reaches high actuating level and gives alarm "water tank level-high’. Since the water tank is the pressurization point for the system, most vents from the other ‘components including the inlet and discharge manifolds of the generator, the water coolers, filters, and demineralizer also retum to the top of the water tank through the combined vent line. 1.6 Water Circulating Pumps The Stator Coil Water System has two identical AC motor-driven, centrifugal water pumps (OMKF10AP001, 10MKF11AP001) designed to circulate the demineralized water while the system is in operation. The water pumps are connected in parallel with shut-off check valves on the outlet of each pump; one is in operation while the other is in standby, Either pump should be able to handle 100% of the system's water circulation needs during normal operation. Each motor/pump consists of three components: an electric motor, a flexible coupling, and a centrifugal pump. The motor and pump are coupled by the flexible coupling, ‘The pumps are horizontal centrifugal process pumps with single-suction inlets. Fach has a mechanical shaft seal to help prevent water leakage in the pump. The impeller, casing, and shaft of each pump are stainless stecl. Ball bearings in the bearing housing of the pumps are lubricated by a constant-bath oiler. A lubricator attached to the side of the housing shows the level of the oil in the housing, Each pump has a pressure transmitter at outlet for monitoring the discharge pressure of the pump. The pressure transmitter is used to signal a discharge pressure for DCS alarms and contacts for the pump-stopped alarms for the circuits to start the other pump. When the system is operating, one pump should provide the total circulation requirements of the Stator Coil Water System. Demineralized water is fed to the operating pump from the system water tank. The operating pump increases the demineralized water pressure to about 0.8MPa (Max.) and feeds the water at this pressure to the operating water cooler. If either pumps malfunctions, as indicated by a decrease in the pressure drop to 0.4MPa or less, the signal initiates and start the standby pump in DCS and it also should give an alarm that the pump is stopped, 1.7 Stator Coil Water Coolers The Stator Coil Water System has two identical shell-and-tube type water coolers 10MKF13AC001 and 10MKFI4AC001 designed to help keep the temperature of the demineralized water at an acceptable range (40 to 50°C) while the system is in operation. The water coolers are connected in parallel with necessary valves on inlet and outlet of the coolers ‘One can be in operation while the other is kept in standby. Either cooler should be able to handle 100% of system heat exchange needs during normal operation. The cooler may be isolated from the loop during operation. The coolers are furnished with drain values. The operating water cooler reduces the temperature of the circulating cooling water by passing the demineralized water over the water tubes in the tube bundle, Raw cooling water enters the inlet chamber, flows through inside the tubes in the tube bundle and then enters the outlet chamber. Purchaser-supplied valves are needed to regulate raw cooling water flow and pressure, Control valves for flow (temperature control) should be located on the raw cooling water Page 6 of 25 | | DOCUMENT NO.: TRIYQOA460F565 Kea Sup STATOR COOLING WATER TIRODA THERMAL POWER ZC JB EBS | system operation AND | PROJECT 1980 MW (2x680 MW SHANGHAI EKECTRIC | MAINTENANCE MANUAL, PHASE | + 1x660 MW Phase II) discharge piping. 1.8 Stator Coil Water Filters The Stator Coil Water System contains two identical water filters 10MKF16AT001 and 10MKF17ATOO1 connected in parallel with valves to operate one water filter while the other is held in standby, The water filters help keep the cooling water free from dirt and other particles that could contaminate the system, Each water filter is corrosion-resistant with a body of stainless steel, the filter clements inside the water filter are tubes of fibrous cloth to form graduated passages that trap particles in the cooling water as it flows through the filter. The filter elements should trap particles as small as 30 microns. Filter elements are replaceable through the top cover of the water filter. A mechanical cover lift on the top of the water filter lifts the cover and allows it to be moved to the side for access to the elements. Isolation valves in the inlet and outlet piping to each filter allow changing the clements or cleaning a filter while the system is operating. A drain connection is also provided on the bottom of the filter to drain the outlet chamber. A vent on the top of each filter is connected to the water tank common vent connection through vent valves and piping. The water filter is designed to remove 30 micron and larger particles from the demineralized water by forcing the water through the fibrous cloth elements without causing an excessive amount of pressure drop. A differential pressure switch, 1OMKF18DPO01, connected to the inlet and outlet piping measures the pressure drop across the operating filter. If the pressure drops increases to 80kPa, the contact closes to give an alarm, indicating the operating filter is blocked or elements should be replaced. 1.9 Demineralizer The Stator Coil Water System contains a nonregenerative, mixed-bed demineralizer, 10MKFO8ATOO1. The demineralizer help keep the demineralized water conductivity at a low level, which is subjected to full line-to-ground potential. The demineralizer is corrosion-resistant, having a body of stainless steel. Stainless steel helical strip-wound filter elements are contained in the outlet and vent ports of the demineralizer, which helps prevent particles of the resin bed from entering the circulating water of the system. The demineralizer inlet has a slotted tube, which serves as an inlet spray nozzle to evenly distribute the incoming water over the resin bed. This inlet tube is tack-welded on a flanged opening on the body that connects the inlet water piping to the demineralizer. ‘The demineralizer has provided a makeup and a drain connection for resin bed at top and bottom of body. The resin bed can be drain out through bottom drain connection for maintenance if needed and put it into demineralizer through top makeup connection on line, ‘The demincralizer has a resin bed (0.14m°) of tiny beads that absorb ions from the water, This resin bed is normally sufficient to maintain the low conductivity of the demineralized water with very little flow through the demineralizer. During normal operation, about Im’/h should be bypassed through a demineralizer. The resin bed has the capacity to demineralize large quantities of water when necessary, such as after a stator coil water system cleanup or filling operation. The demineralizer helps maintain the low conductivity of the demineralized water in the stator coil water system by circulating a small portion of the output of the circulating pumps through the resin bed and returning the demineralized water to the water tank. Maintaining and reducing the conductivity is important because the demineralized water is subjected to full line to-ground potential as it passes through the insulating hoses connecting the generator to the stator coil water system, [Document NO.: TRIYQOA460F565 Page 7 of 25 ] Barf : ‘= | STATOR COOLING WATER TIRODA THERMAL POWER = JE Jf9 FBT | svsTEMOPERATION AND | PROJECT 1980 MW (2x60 MW SHANGHAI ELECTRIC | MAINTENANCE MANUAL PHASE I + 1x660 MW Phase I) The piping that directs this water from the pumps to the demineralizer and back to the water tank is part of the water treatment loop of the system. The flow meter indicates the amount of flow through the demineralizer. Manually operated valve 10MKFO8AA302 controls the amount of flow to help keep the stator coil cooling water conductivity at LS micromhos/em or less. A conductivity cell in the outlet piping from the demineralizers senses the conductivity of the water and, with a conductivity indicator/transmitter indicates when the resin bed in the demineralizer should be replaced is needed 1.10 Gas Pressurization System ‘The water system is pressurized by means of nitrogen pressure above the water level in the water tank. The nitrogen supply is obtained from the Generator Gas System shown on the Gas System PID. At the water system, the nitrogen feed into the water tank is controlled by an automatic regulator set at 14kPa, During normal operation at the higher generator gas pressure, hydrogen will permeate thru the hoses into the water tank. The tank is equipped with a pressure relief valve set at 35kPa. A gas meter indicates the amount gas released from the water tank. It is possible to operator without pressurization. This mode of operation is not recommended, since corrosion activity will be accelerated in the presence of atmospheric oxygen. WARNING: When the system is or is not operating with pressurization, the hydrogen in the generator will also permeate into the water tank. Whenever the hydrogen is in the generator, the water tank must be treated as a hydrogen container. 1.11 Purging, Water Removal and Drying of Hollow Stator Coils It may be desired to remove water from the stator water system in order to facilitate insulation testing of the stator winding. Before doing so, the water tank should be depressurized and the nitrogen supply shut off and vented to atmosphere. This is done in order to avoid creating a hazardous mixture of hydrogen and air. See Stator Coil Water System Inspection and Maintenance. ‘The system is designed to permit shutting off and isolating nitrogen line to the water system, by closing valves and removing line 1OMKGO6BRO02 refer to Gas System P&ID, during water removal and drying of stator coil water passages. The system provides means of completely removing water from the system. All components of the stator coil water have shutoff and drain valves. The generator stator coil water may be drained thru the instrumentation lines from the manifolds at the each end of the generator. After all water has been drained thru the drain lines, the water tank may also be drained. To farther dry the stator coils, a system is employed that permits pressurization of the water tank and coils with compressed air at 0.5MPa. Then a quick opening valve (ball valve 1OMKF41AA601) is operated to release the air pressure, thus forcing the water out of the small passages in the coils to the manifolds. This operation is repeated as necessary until the remaining quantity of water is minimal and any further operation would be marginal. 1.12, Water Feed or Makeup System ‘The water for the Stator Coil Water System is obtained from the boiler feed system or from the house demineralizer water system and enters the system through a strainer, pressure reducer, solenoid or bypass valve, and demineralizer in that order. The solenoid valve is actuated by a level control switch on the water tank. A pressure relief valve prevents over-pressurization by supply water. The flow switch can give a signal in DCS when the makeup water is coming, 1.13 Conductivity Meters Conductivity of the stator water is measured by two Conductivity Meters - one at the DOCUMENT NO.: TR/YQOA460F565, Page 8 of 25 Boa op ‘STATOR COOLING WATER ~TIRODA THERMAL POWER = 3 8S] | system OPERATION AND PROJECT 1980 MW (2x660 MW SHANSHAL ELEGTRIS | MAINTENANCE MANUAL PHASE I + 1*660 MW Phase II) Demineralizer outlet (OMKF08CQ001), and the other (IOMKF19CQO01) in the main loop bypass. The readings are in micrombos/em (4S/cm) corrected to 25 deg C. Alarms are provided to indicate the conductivity in the main loop has risen to 5 and 9.5micromhosiem, and 1.Smicromhos/em in Demineralizer outlet. Normal operation should be in the range 0.5 to 1 Smicromhos/em in main loop. The Demineralizer outlet conductivity indicates the condition of the demineralizer resin. 1.14 Gas Meter A gas meter (10MKFO7CF001) is equipped on water tank venting pipe to monitor and record the vent gas quantity from the tank. Gas meter is installed on a base plate located on generator operation floor, detail to see drawing "GAS METER UNIT", In normal operation, there are about 50 to 150 liters of hydrogen through water insulation pipe to the tank together, every day. When the number increased evidently and hydrogen made-up to generator increasing, the stator coil may have leaked, A analog signal for instantaneous Fi flow should be sent to DCS. Two binary signals are for options, which are accumulated mixed gas flow alarm and accumulated H; flow alarm when the flows reaches to setting values. ERECTION OF THE STATOR WATER SYSTEM 3.1 General The water system must be located and all pipes connected to the generator as indicated by the Generator Outline Supplement drawing and the Stator Coil Water supply unit outline, It is particularly important that covers on various piping flanges be left in place until extemal piping is ready to be connected, in order to keep dirt and foreign objects out of the lines. Make certain that all water lines between the generator and the water supply unit have a slope 1:30. All piping must. be sloped so that all water will drain to the water supply unit when Pumps are shut down, All drain piping should have a break distance about 100 to 200mm to waste pipe. And it is easy to look whether the drain fine or drain vaive have a leakage. It should be mounted a cone-shaped funnel below drainpipe to collect water. 3.2. Precautions In order to prevent any leakage of hydrogen and carbon dioxide into the water system, the hydrogen and carbon dioxide supply system to the generator must be disconnected. See Gas system P&ID. ‘The air supply line should always be disconnected until required for water removal from the stator coils. See Stator Coil Cooling Water System P&AD. A blind plate 10MKFO6AS001 is provided in the air supply line to the Water Tank. Do not install filter elements, demineralizer resin bed and do not use conduct water piping and stator coils have been flushed. 3.3 Testing of Stator Coil Winding and Other Components Prior to installing the stator water piping at the generator and perform the generator leakage test (See gas system instruction book, chapter Erection), the air test of the stator coils, see Generator Instruetion book. 3.4 Water Flushing of Stator Water Piping Disconnect the water piping at the generator, connect bypass, and flush the stator water piping per instructions in Fig 2 Field Flushing of Stator Coil & Lead Box Extemal Piping, Note that this flushing may be performed in parallel with 3.3, Testing of Stator Coil Winding above, To be performed before any water is pumped through the stator coils. To prevent the resin bed from drying out, water should be introduced immediately. The system may now be put into operation as follows: a b Set valves as indicated on the Water System P&ID. Make sure that line blind 10MKFO6AS001 on the water system is connected in blind position. Start the seal oil system as deseribed in chapter operation of seal oil system instruction book. Before purging the generator, care should be taken to prevent carbon dioxide gas or hydrogen from reaching the water system. Purge generator as described in chapter operation of gas system instruction book. The generator should be filled with rated hydrogen pressure so that the hydrogen pressure will be above the maximum water pressure during the purging and filling of the water system. 4.2 Purging and Filling the Water System a b ‘Admit water through valve IOMKFO8AA201. Adjust the outlet pressure of pressure reducing valve 1OMKFO8AA101 for 0.8MPa, Water will flow through Solenoid Valve 1OMKFO8AA001, which is energized by the level switch LOMKFOSCL301. Fill Demineralizer by opening valve 10MKF22AA201, 10MKF22AA202, and 10MKFO8AA208. When water flows from continuous vents into the Water Tank, close valves 10MKF22AA201 and 1OMKF22AA202, Open vent valve 1OMKF444.601 to vent the entire loop. Open bypass valve 1OMKFO8AA207 to fill Water Tank. This flow of water will fill the Pumps, Filters, Coolers, and associated piping, When the water level reaches the normal level, level switch 10MKFOSCL301 will de-energize solenoid valve 1OMKFO8AA001. Continue to feed water by opening bypass valve 10MKF08AA205. Do not close vent valve IOMKF44AA601 while bypass valve 1OMKFO8AA205 is opened. When the jet from valve 1OMKF44AA601 indicates that all air has been removed, throttle bypass valve 10MKFO8AA205 to prevent of static pressure. Check the effluent from the continuous vents into Water Tank. A solid stream of water indicates that the components have thoroughly vented. ‘The vent valves 1OMKFO8AA208, 1OMKFI6AA201, and [OMKF17AA201 should be closed and then opened one full turn for continuous venting. Start one of the Pumps and circulate water for about one-half hour or until the jet stream from vent valve 1OMKF44AA601 indicate that all air has been removed. Put the Pump 10MKF10AP001 in operation. Stop Pump 10MKFIOAPOO1. When the outlet pressure of Pump LOMKF10AP001 drops to 400kPa, Pump 10MKF11APOO1 should start immediately. b Pump 10MKF11APO001 may be checked in the same manner. c To check the differential pressure switch across the Filter, it causes the alarm contacts to close when the pressure drop rise to 80kPa. d The water flow through the stator coils is reflected by means of a flow meter 10MKFI9CFOO1 and differential pressure transmitter 1OMKF40DP001 and gauges. Also any abnormal flow conditions are alarmed by means of differential pressure switches. e The Stator Coil Pressure Drop High and Low alarm should be set in DCS according to analog output of differential pressure transmitter 1OMKF40DP001 f The three very low differential pressure switches may be checked when the flow is decreased to the 80% of the rated water flow, the paralleled three Very Low Flow switches will be actuated. The three Very Low Flow switches are used for low water protection. When any two out of three switches is actuated and thirty (30) seconds delayed, the generator should be tripped to protect the stator coils from overheating (non flow). Suppose the three very low flow switches are designated “A”, “B” and “C”, the binary protection signal “D” is: D=AB+AC+BC h The differential pressure between the generator gas pressure and inlet water pressure should be set to alarm when the gas pressure drops to 35kPa above the inlet water pressure, i Innormal operation the stator coil cooling water flow should be regulated and remained the rated value. It can be regulated by throttling valve 1OMKF19AA201 4.5 Operation of Stator Coil Water Coolers ‘The temperature of the stator coil water leaving the Cooler will normally not exceed 50 deg C. CAUTION: Before one Cooler out of service, be sure open the standby one. 4.6 Operation of Demineralizer After the circulating loop functions have been properly adjusted and prior placing the generator into service, the conductivity of the water in the closed loop must be established per the Stator Coil Cooling Water System P&ID. One of the Pumps must be in operation to circulate water through the demineralizer. The flow of water may be reduced if the conductivity of the discharge water is less than the specified limits ‘The demineralizer contains about 0.14 m? of resin bed which will highly effective during the great portion of its life. When the conductivity of the water from the demineralizer stars to rise at a rapid rate, the resin bed is spent and should be replaced Altemate drying, wetting, freezing, thawing, and overheating should be avoided as they are harmful. For optimum life, water passing through the resin bed should be free of suspended DOCUMENT NO.: TRIYQOA460F 565, Page 15 of 25 Batu ‘STATOR COOLING WATER TIRODA THERMAL POWER SYSTEM OPERATION AND PROJECT 1980 MW (2x660 MW MAINTENANCE MANUAL PHASE I + 1660 MW Phase) | Sa tines ‘matter and free of heavy iron concentrations. Refer to Fig. 4 the stator cooling water demineralizer is a non-regenerative mixed bed type. Cross section indicates mechanical details and construction. This demineralizer is charged with 0.14 cu meter of H-OH mixed bed resin and the stoichiometric ratio is 1:2. The high purity water circulated through this demineralizer for stator cooling refinement shall not exceed 60 deg C to help prevent damage to the resin bed in the demineralizer and a resulting increase in the conductivity of the water. In normal operation, the water conductivity from the demineralizer is 0.1-0.4micromho/om. when the specific conductivity reaches 1.Smicromho/om, it will be an ication that the resin bed is rapidly losing its exchange ability, When this occurs, the resin bed should be replaced. The following procedure shall be followed: Close off the demineralizer effluent valve. a Removing the resin flush-out connection cover slowly, afler making preparation to receive the resin that will be flushed out. When all the resin has been removed, allow the unit to continue flush for 30 seconds to remove the remaining traces that might be present, b Then close the valve in the influent line and start removing the makeup connection flange cover in the top head. The demineralizer will continue draining thre the flush-out connection. When draining has PEUETINE ~ osmaurenee esa stopped, install the flush-out cover. ae © Then place the replacement bed of H-OH mixed bed resin in the demineralizer through the top opening. erruewr 4 Open the influent valve slightly so that water enters the vessel slowly, When the unit is filled with water to the top opening, the flange cover can be installed after the influent valve is closed Fig.4 Demineratizer ¢ When the flange is made up, the influent valve can be opened fully. Open the vent valve. ‘The demineralizer is ready for operation after the effluent valve has been opened 8 Special care should be taken to prevent drying out of the resin bed. Freezing should also be prevented, although it is not as injurious as drying out. 4.7 Operation of Filters Whenever the pressure drop of the Filter increases to 80kPa the standby should be placed into operation and the Filter with the high-pressure drop should be isolated by turning the change valve, Cleaning inside and replace the filter cartridges, Each Filter is equipped with a drain valve. 4.8 Operation without Pressurization ‘The water system can be operated without pressurization from the generator gas supply system. Before operating in this mode, please read Gas Pressurization System of Stator Coil Water System instruction book in Description. When operating without pressurization, the nitrogen supply from the generator is shut off by closing valve 10MKGO6A.A207 on the Gas system P&ID and close valve 10MKFOSAA201. When this operation occurs, the gradual permeation of hydrogen gas through the Teflon hoses will continue to pressurize the water system. The pressure relief valve 1OMKFO7AAS01 will prevent pressure in excess of 35kPa, ‘The water system can be returned to pressurization with the nitrogen from the generator gas DOCUMENT NO.: TR/YQOA460F565 Page 16 of 25 Bathe ips SHANGHAI ELECTRIC | STATOR COOLING WATER SYSTEM OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL TIRODA THERMAL POWER PROJECT 1980 MW (2x660 MW PHASE I + 1x660 MW Phase Il) supply by opening valves and 10MKG06A.A207 on the Ges system P&ID. 4.9 Operation during Generator Shutdown ‘As described in the section Seal Oil System instruction book-Operation, hydrogen may be left in the generator during a shutdown, provided the seal oil pressure is maintained per Instructions, ‘The water can be kept in generator as long as there is no danger of the water freezing. The Pump drive shaft has a mechanical seal, which is subject to pressure on the discharge side of the Pump. b Coolers The stator coil circulating water Coolers are made of stainless steel shells and tubes to suit demineralized water as well as the raw water. The tubes should be cleaned if there are indications that the flow of raw water is being restricted or that there is fouling of the Coolers. c Filters The Filters should be periodically checked to see that the vents are operating properly so that there is a continuous trickle of water back to the water tank. The pressure drop across the filter should be checked for possible accumulations affecting the flow of water. Filter elements may be replaced at any time, as necessary. Tum the change valve to isolate a operating Filter and put the standby Filter in operation 4d Demineralizer ‘The demineralizer has isolating valves which permit shutting off the flow of water. See Fig. 4 Operation of demineralizer, for cross-sections view and detailed instructions for renewing the resin bed. © Conductivity Meters and Cells Maintenance is to be performed in accordance with the manufacturer’s i structions. f Water Pump Motors and Couplings Each water-circulating Pump is coupled to its motor by means of a self-aligning coupling, Each subassembly is mounted on a base plate 5.3 Scheduled Outage Maintenance a General All (differential) pressure switches should be checked for correct operation and for mechanical defects at each scheduled outage. The setting value of these pressure switches is given in Stator Coil Cooling Water System P&ID and Section 6 -Signals of Stator Water System, Reset any switches which do not operated at the correct pressure, The stems of the various valves should be inspected for signs of water leakage. If indications of leakage are observed, the gland nut should be tightened or, if necessary, the packing should be replaced. The required packing may be obtained locally. All valves should be checked for freedom of operation after the nut has been tightened or after new packing been installed. Al flange joints in the stator water system should be inspected for signs of water leakage and the bolts tightened if evidence of leakage is found. It may be necessary to replace the gasket at the flange if tightening the bolts does not correct the leakage. b Exceptions DOCUMENT NO.: TR/YQOA460F565 Page 18 of 25 “Ba Kuof ‘STATOR COOLING WATER "TIRODA THERMAL POWER = C3885] | system OPERATION AND PROJECT 1980 MW (2x660 MW SHANSHAN ELEGTRIS | "MAINTENANCE MANUAL PHASE I + 1x660 MW Phase ll) Since all the following items are checked regularly in the monthly maintenance schedule, and since they can be isolated or removed for inspection at any time without interrupting the operation of the unit, no outage maintenance need be scheduled for them. —Pumps —Coolers —Filters 5.4 Removal of Water from Stator Coils a General There are two circumstances under which it is necessary to remove the water from the hydraulic circuits within the water-cooled generator stator, ‘The first is a shutdown during which the generator would be subjected to exposure to freezing or subfireezing ambient conditions. ‘The second circumstance is the requirement of conducting D-C insulation leakage tests, when desired b Purging of Hydrogen from the Stator Coil Water System In order to prepare the hydraulic circuits and equipment for water removal the following procedure is recommended. The generator should be purged of hydrogen (if hydrogen in the generator) per instructions on Gas System P&ID. Isolate the nitrogen supply to the water system by closing valve i0MKG06AA207 on Gas System P&ID. The water columns formed by these stator coils and connectors will adversely affect insulation tests between the windings and ground. If this water is allowed to remain and if the temperature is lowered sufficiently, the water will freeze, and the expansion within the coils and connectors may cause damage to the cooper and stainless steel components. Whenever an alarm operates, a visual signal on supervisory panel indicates the source of the alarm and a horn sounds in main control room to alert the station operator. 6.1 Pump 10MKFI0AP001, 10MKF11AP001-Stopped Each circulating pump is equipped with a pressure switch. The pressure switch is actuated by the pressure at the pump downstream. The switch mechanical is adjusted to actuate when the operating pressure is 0.4MPa. If Pump 10MKF10AP00! is running and for some reason the downstream pressure drops to 0.4MPa, the switch 10MKF10CPO01 will close and indicate the pump 10MKF10APO01 Stopped, and at the same time actuate the starter for pump 10MKFI1APO01. The pressure switch 10MKF11CP001 functions in similar capacity. When either of these alarms occurs, the Pump and motor should be inspected and causes for Pump failure investigated. The position of the valves for normal operation should be checked per the Stator Coil Water System P&ID. 6.2 Water Filter Pressure Drop-High ‘The Water Filter Pressure Drop-High signal indicates that the pressure across one of the water filters has increased to 80kPa since being placed into service. This signal is given by a differential pressure switch across both of the parallel filters. When this alarm operates, the standby filter should be placed into operation. The filter, which had the high-pressure drop, should be isolated by tuming change valve and closed the vent valve. The Filter should be drained and new elements installed. The clements should be inspected for causes of accumulation, which resulted in the high-pressure drop. 6.3 Makeup Water Flow-On ‘The Makeup Water Flow-On signal indicates that water is added to the closed loop of the stator coil water system. This signal indicates that solenoid valve for the makeup water from the house boiler feed system or house demineralizer water system is open and is admitting water. This alarm is actuated by level switch on water tank. When this alarm is initiated, check the sight level gauge to see if the water level in the water tank actually requires makeup. Check to see if the level rises to the higher limit of normal water level and then shuts off. Another reason for this alarm might be leakage of water. Check pump seals and all other components and piping for possible source of leakage. The liquid detector should be checked to see if there is accumulation of water. Refer to Liquid Detector Level-High alarm in Gas System. The solenoid valve should be checked for proper setting water level if there is a proper water level in the water tank. 6.4 Water Tank Level-High / Low ‘The Water Tank Level High and Low signals are given by a capacitor type electronic level control located in the top of the water tank (Refer to Water Tank Level Operation, Fig. 1). This signal component also operates the solenoid valve, which permits water makeup and at the same time provides the high and low level alarms. As the water level varies, the capacity between the sensor of the level controller and the water tank also changes. The electronic circuit in the controller transfers the capacity to level signal and DOCUMENT NO,: TRIYQOA460F 565 Page 23 of 25 Rea Vanp -E i885 | system OPERATION AND PROJECT 1980 MW (2x660 MW e STATOR COOLING WATER ~~ TIRODA THERMAL POWER | SHANGHAI ELECTRIC | MAINTENANCE MANUAL PHASE I + 1*660 MW Phase) actuates the switches. The high level alarm will be actuated during the purging of the stator coil water system and purging of stator coils of the generator with water. This alarm is normal reaction under these conditions, 6.5 Water Tank Pressure-High During normal operation, the water tank is pressurized by means of an automatic nitrogen pressure regulator set at 14kPa. The nitrogen supply is obtained from the Gas System. This pressure in the water tank also permits draining of water to normal operating level after purging all the passageways with water. The water tank is protected against excessive pressure by a pressure relief valve set at 35kPa. If the pressure in the tank reaches 42kPa, pressure switch contact closes and gives the alarm “Water Tank Pressure-High”, 6.6 Stator Coil Water Flow-Low / High The Stator Coil Water Flow-Low or High indicates the flow of water is less than or more than normal flow, that flow is becoming dangerously low or high. These signals are given by water flow meter located inlet of stator winding and set in DCS. The stator coil cooling water should be maintained at rated flow. The throttle valve 10MKF19A.A201 should be adjusted in the final position when the generator is carrying full load and the raw cooling water is at its maximum expected temperature. The water into the generator should not exceed 50 deg C for normal operation. ‘The stator coil water flow-low alarm is actuated when the water flow falls to the 90% of normal flow. And the stator coil water flow-high alarm is actuated when the water flow rises to the 110% of normal flow. 6.7 Stator Coil Water Flow-Very Low The Stator Coil Water Flow-Very Low alarm is actuated when the water flow falls to the 80% of normal flow. This signal is sent by three differential pressure switches connected in parallel across stator winding, in which uses two out of three. When the Stator Coil Water Flow-Very Low alarm is sent, afler 30 seconds, the generator should be tripped to keep the stator coils from overheating, The stator coil water circulating system has a design pressure drop across the manifolds in the generator. These three differential pressure switches should be set to initiate alarm in the field when the flow meter indicates at 80% of rated flow. 68 Demineralizer Outlet Conductivity-High The Demineralizer Outlet Conductivity-High alarm indicates that the water leaving the demineralizer has not been thoroughly de-ionized and its conductivity has risen to 1.5:S/em. Whenever this alarm occurs, the demineralizer should be isolated and the resin bed should be renewed. A probable cause of the conductivity high alarm may be a defect in the conductivity meter, which can be removed for inspection during normal operation. The resin bed of the demineralizer should be checked periodically for attrition, channeling, or other possible cause for ineffectiveness. The life of the resin bed is generally about one year. The ineffectiveness of a resin bed depends very much upon the rate of rise of conductivity with respect to a steady flow condition. 6.9 Stator Coil Water Inlet Conductivity-High / Very High ‘The Conductivity Meter measures the conductivity of the stator coil inlet water. When the conductivity of inlet water reaches SuS/em, the Stator Inlet Water Conductivity-High alarm is DOCUMENT NO.: TR/YQOA460F 565 Page 24 of 25 Ka gue PaEHEReretS SYSTEM OPERATION AND PROJECT 1980 MW (2x660 MW MAINTENANCE MANUAL PHASE I + 1x660 MW Phase II) SHANGHAI ELECTRIC ‘STATOR COOLING WATER | TIRODA THERMAL POWER \@seea | initiated from Conductivity Meter. Probable causes of the alarm may improper functioning of the conductivity meter, or insufficient water flow thru the demineralizer. In the latter case, increase the flow to see if conductivity is improved. If it is not in this case, check the demineralizer if working properly. For the Stator Coil Water Inlet Conductivity-Very High alarm, initiates a signal when the inlet water conductivity increases to 9.54S/em. This alarm follows the “HIGH” alatin and requires immediate action to restore the low conductivity values. DOCUMENT NO.: TRIYQOA460F 565 Page 25 of 25 i Bra hue
