ITEC Portfolio Artifact Reflection

Standard 6.3 Field Experiences:

Candidates engage in appropriate field experiences to synthesize and apply the content
and professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions identified in these standards.
1. Briefly describe the artifact and the context in which it was created. What was/were
your individual contribution(s)?
For all of my classes in the Instructional Technology program I had to complete
structured and unstructured field experiences. One of my unstructured field experiences
for ITEC 7400 was where I provided a mini-lesson for Seventh grade teachers on the use
of Kahoot for test preparation. I helped teachers look up pre-made games on the site that
aligned with their standards. (2 hours during planning both days) I also provided staff
training over iMovie in the classroom. This was an after school professional
development session where I showed teachers my students video project. I showed the
teachers how to edit and upload student work. I also provided instruction using a green
screen and how to upload back grounds in to student work.
(2 hours)

2. Explain how this artifact demonstrates mastery of the standard/element under which it
is placed.
This experience helped me to establish myself as a future technology coach in the school.
This experience also helped me to see that the teachers at my school are willing to learn
but want to know the benefits and time it takes up front before they will commit to learn.
I applied the knowledge that I gained from this course on LoTI levels of engagement and
creating authentic assignments for students. I also used my knowledge from my
professional learning course about how to increase teacher buy in and support from
administration when providing these Professional learning segments for teachers at my
own school.
3. What did you learn from completing this artifact? What would you do differently to
improve the quality of the artifact or the process involved in creating the artifact?
I learned that teacher learners are different from student learners first of all. I made me
presentation to the point and provided specific details of how Kahoot would be useful in
the classroom.

This experience better prepared me to troubleshoot, and manage digital tools and
resources in the classroom. I was able to apply my learning and help teachers learn how
to adapt iMovie for their lessons. While completing my project for the class I struggled
with using iMovie because I did not trouble shoot before my students started working and
my struggles were something that I shared with the teachers, as a learning experience.
4. How did the work that went into creating the artifact impact school improvement,
faculty development, or student learning? How can the impact be assessed?
The teachers that came to the training were excited to us our new iPad labs and help
students use iMovie for their future projects. One of the teachers who attended the
training after school was very excited with her students work and level of creativity that
iMovie added to their projects.
