repetition. Answers are mostly relevant and usually respond promptly. Some repair strategies are
used.

any) noticeable errors of grammar or word order when using complex structures.

word-order errors.

however, obscure meaning.
FAIR-POOR: Vocabulary is inaccurate and/or insufficient, so meaning is usually obscured.
Vocabulary is inadequate to carry out a conversation
EXCELLENT-VERY GOOD: Stress, rhythm and intonation are used appropriately to convey
meaning in context. Vowel and consonant sounds are pronounced sufficiently clearly for
utterances to be understood easily.
GOOD: Stress, rhythm and intonation are sufficiently appropriate. There are occasional errors
with vowel and consonant sound, but meaning is not obscured.
FAIR-POOR: Stress, rhythm and intonation are inappropriate and put strain on the listener. Poor
articulation of individual sounds frequently makes utterances difficult to understand.
Gross interference with L1.
