RECYCLE FOR ALL

ONE EARTH. ONE FUTURE. ACT NOW
1. THE CURRENT CONDITIONS OF THE SCHOOL
Based on our observations, our school does not run any recycling
programme. Normally, the school janitors will collect mineral bottles, soft
drinks aluminum cans and papers. They will sell the waste to certain
people to get extra income.
The students and school personnel do not practice 4Rs in their daily
activities. The school area does not have special bins for separating
waste such as paper, bottles and cans. School canteen still use plastic
and polystyrene food containers to sell food. In the class, the bins are full
with garbage. Cleaners need to empty the big rubbish bins which are
located at the corridor twice a day or the garbage would overflow onto
the floor.
We have interviewed some teachers and friends about the importance
of preserving the environment. They know the importance of protecting
the environment and its impact if waste is disposed without control.
Nevertheless, they claimed that the process of sorting the waste is
difficult and tardy.
The trash which has been discarded by the school community is in
large amount. This does not include the waste from other places. If the
waste is not disposed properly, of course it will cause tremendous impact
on the environment. For examples it can cause water pollution, air
pollution, death of marine animals and birds and many more. It costs
residents and local, state and federal government millions of money to
collect the trash, reverse the effect of pollution and prevent pollution.
The monetary cost for these efforts could be drastically reduced and
used for other environmental projects if people would dispose the
garbage properly.

2. PROJECT OBJECTIVES
We affirmatively feel that recycling programme should begin from
school. The programme aims to educate the school community about
4

the environment and personal responsibility thus giving awareness on

the importance of waste reduction to protect the environment for future
generation.
The main objectives of these programme are :
a) to engage the school community in learning on how to recycle the
materials that usually can be found in school area.
b) to increase awareness about the importance of 4Rs (Rethink, Reduce,
Reuse and Recycle)
c) to obtain support from the school community for the recycling project.
d) to introduce the recycling project to be implemented in school.
There are two ways to carry out environmental conservation projects :
a) Recycle For All Campaign
Our group wants to propose a recycling programme at school. Each
class must have 3 bins (boxes). The bins will be wrapped or painted
with blue, orange and brown respectively. In the class, garbage must
be separated by category to make the process of recycle easier.
Garbage are separated according to paper, mineral bottles, cans and
other materials. Classes that do not separate the garbage will be given
demerit.
b) Outreach Campaign - Recyclable Materials Brought From Home
Each student, teacher and staff are required to bring at least 5 kg of
paper and newspapers, 5 mineral bottles and soft drinks aluminum
cans from home. These materials will be recorded in one form. A stamp
will be issued if they bring materials according to the amount stated.
Students and the classes also will be given merit for their contribution.
We are targeting about 460 members of the school community to take
part in The Outreach Campaign.

3. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
a) Recycle For All Campaign

The committee members will wrap the boxes to blue, orange and
brown as samples to show to the school community.

The announcement will be made during the school assembly to

inform the students about the programme that needs to be run.

Each class must create their own recycle boxes or bins.

If the bins in the class are full, the student on duty needs to dispose
the garbage to the recycling bins provided.
Student on duty must empty the bins before the school ends.

10 minutes before the school ends, the committee members will

check every class to ensure the students have separated the
garbage.
Twice a week, the committee will check the recycling bins whether
or not they are full. If so, certain party will be called to collect the
recycled materials.

b) Outreach Campaign

Providing an empty classroom to put the recycled materials.

Preparing a form to record the materials that have been collected

and a schedule of tasks for the committee members.

Make an announcement about the programme.

Sorting, weighing and recording the recycled materials based on

category.

Twice a week TrEES will be called to collect the recycled materials.

The school community can bring their recycled materials every day
except Monday and Wednesday. All the materials will be placed in an empty
classroom. The classroom will be opened from 11.30 in the morning to 12.30
in the afternoon for afternoon girls and from 1.05 to 2.30 in the evening for
morning girls. The persons in charge of The Outreach Campaign are Lim Ai
Rin (morning session) and Wan U, Dion (afternoon session).

4. Outreach Campaign Tagline One Earth. One Future. Act Now

Earth is the planet we live in. But then again, every day we can see with our
bare eyes people heartlessly throwing rubbish and waste on the ground and
7

river without feeling guilty. Our unwise and massive activity cause harm to the
natural environment. People should change their lifestyle rapidly in order to
stop deforestation, global warming, pollution and other problems, which can
destroy the life on the planet. We can save our environment in a very easy
manner with the little steps taken by every person on earth. So, it is time to act
now before it is too late. Let us all make a difference so that the future
generations could see the beauty of our nature.
