Welcome Address
Dear delegate,
A very warm welcome to the PtC conference 2015. We received hundreds on
applications this year, congratulations on being selected.
The PtC conference provides a platform for discussion and networking to
researchers and professionals from consulting firms. The doctoral training gives
you exceptional problem solving skills, intellectual curiosity and ability to aim
for and achieve lofty goals; these are skills that once harnessed, are highly
attractive to consultancy firms. Commercial organisations and consulting firms
are realising the potential of PhDs, valuing their fresh and thoughtful approach
in delivering business insights.
We have worked very hard to create an impressive line-up of top ranking
consulting firms worldwide and for the first time, all the MBBs are present.
During this event, you will hear from former PhD students who made a
successful transition to consulting and have questions answered during panel
discussions and networking sessions. As PhD students/graduates contemplating
a consulting career, we urge you to take full advantage of this.
We would like to take this time to thank our sponsor, Cranmore Executive
Search for their support and all the companies whose representatives are
present today.
We hope that you enjoy the PtC Conference 2015, and that this event will
contribute one more step towards building an outstanding career. To keep
abreast of useful information and insightful discussions around transitioning to
consulting, keep an eye on the PhD to Consulting (PtC) LinkedIn page.

Presentation title: Why a PhD is a great asset for strategy
consulting with Bain
Speaker: Carolos is currently an Associate Consultant, now entering
his 2nd year in the Bain & Company London office. While at Bain, he
has worked in a variety of strategy projects across different industries
including Technology, Industrials, IT services and Financial Services.
He has worked with companies in the UK, US and France. Prior to
that, he completed his PhD in Structural Engineering at Imperial
College London, on the design of more robust metal and composite
structures. The project won the 1st Prize for Young Researcher in
Structural Engineering in 2013 by the Institute of Structural
Engineers.
He has completed his undergraduate studies at Ecole Centrale Paris
(France) and at Aristotles University of Thessaloniki (Greece) through
the Top Industrial Managers for Europe Programme.
In 2009, he co-founded VDL Bros, an IT services company providing
innovative event solutions for medical conferences. The company,
which he continued to co-manage while at Imperial, still operates in
Greece. Carolos volunteers with the Rotaract club, practices ju-jitsu
and plays as much tennis as possible, London weather permitting!
Networking Delegates: Michael Ward, Lux Paterson
