MAINTENANCE & RELIABILITY ENGINEERING

Project Title: A case study on maintenance program in the
manufacturing/service industry

Introduction
Maintenance is an important system in operation. In an era where industries are
focusing on 24 hours operation to maximize production, machines are pushed to
its absolute limits to cope with this demand. As utilization increases, the rate at
which the machine parts get worn out increases thus the frequency of failure
increases rapidly. To combat this problem and ensure that machines continue to
operate at its optimum, maintenance work is carried out.

Project Brief/Objectives
The project objective is to identify existing maintenance program within the
manufacturing/service industry in Fiji. During this case study students group will
identify the current status of the organisation; with respect to the project content
(i.e. Modern approach of Maintenance engineering and application). Well it is not
about resolving entire issues of the organisation; however in the context of the
project you will first study the particular processes in the industry and identify
the existing maintenance procedure. In case the absence of any modern
approach of maintenance program; propose and design a suitable approach.
Once it is identified using the engineering tools of particular field the analysis
needs to be done. Finally, a formal report should be presented.

Deliverables and scope

1. Identify and communicate with a suitable organisation where a case study
can be conduct
2. Study various types of maintenance program
3. Data collection related to the project objective
4. Apply the respective tools to analyse the problem
5. Using the quality control and mathematical tools identify the core causes if
there is any gap identified during the study
6. Finding an appropriate/ suitable maintenance program that can address
the identified workplace problem
7. Report formulation. The report should contain zero% plagiarism.
