This module aims to develop students abilities to manage information system projects.

A particular
focus of the course is on managing the analysis and design aspects of information systems
development. Hence, the module requires students to:1. Analyze requirements of the intended users of a system
2. Recommend a new system to solve the users requirements
3. Designing a system using
i. Flow charts
ii.

Dataflow diagrams up to level 3(refer system analysis and design)

iii.

Database (tables) design normalized up to 3rd normal form (refer database systems)

iv. Come up with and Entity relation diagram (ERD) for the database
v.
Object-oriented analysis and design (class diagram, use case diagram, sequence diagram,
activity diagram) where applicable
vi.

Do data entry from design and report

4. Developing a prototype of the system using a database of choice (eg MySQL, Oracle ,SQL etc)
and a programming g language of platform of a choice(eg VB, Java, PHP, android
etc.)Implementation in a practical information system project
During the project, student will discuss their project progress with the lecturer in five milestones
(Milestone 0, chapters 1 -4)
Mile stone 0:-the student will float a topic of the system to be developed (e.g., JKUAT store
management system).
Chapter One: Introduction
Chapter one comprises with the following:1.1 background of the project (refer how to write background )
1.2 statement of the problem (refer how to write statement of the problem )
1.3 main objective
1.3.1 specific objectives(at least 3 )
1.4 project justification
1.5 limitation of the project
The student will submit that work and upon satisfaction the student will be given permission to
proceed to chapter 2 (milestone 2)

Chapter Two: Literature Review

1

-This is short literature on the area of the project well cited as per APA (refer APA citation format)
- The literature should be at least 8 pages. Bulleted 2.0, 2.1etc. depending on the number of
subtopics
Chapter Three: System Development Methodology
This explains the methods that will be used to come up with the prototype including requirement
analysis, tools to be used. Development methodology to be employed.
Chapter Four: System Design
The output is:i.
