Main factors which cause pollution due to development

The most common point source polluters are factories and sewage treatment plants that
discharge industrial by-products or human waste. Ships, transport pipes and ditches, and
underground storage tanks are also considered point sources.

The main causes of pollution include industrial emissions, poor disposal of wastes,
mining, deforestation, use of fossil fuels and agricultural activities

Six common pollutants compose the majority of air pollution, including nitrogen dioxide,
ozone, sulfur dioxide, particulate matter, carbon monoxide and lead. Air pollution
resulting from a variety of sources is responsible for 1.3 million deaths per year
worldwide

Soil pollution is caused by a variety of anthropogenic activities, but mining activities,

chemical spills and improper disposal of toxic chemicals are the most common causes.
Some contaminants, including salts, metals and alcohols, are present in the soil naturally.
However, if these chemicals build up to toxic levels, they may become a natural form of
soil pollution

Thermal pollution primarily arises from waste energy generated from power plants,
although it also comes from shoreline erosion, deforestation and runoff from paved
surfaces. Thermal pollution refers to an artificial change in temperature, generally an
increase from the average, in water bodies such as lakes, rivers, oceans and streams.
