Research In Context is a research tool that was

specifically created for students in grades 6-8.
Therefore, its materials are aligned with state and
national standards and relevant to the most studied
topics in the middle school curriculum. Students can
utilize this tool for research in any content area, as it
is cross-curricular, but would likely find it most useful
for science fair. For every search, it delivers quality
results of all sorts; a choice of reading level; the
ability to read, highlight, and take notes; and the
ability to save and send all of the work that's been
completed in that session including a citation list. It
also has features to both translate and read
information aloud to students. This resource is
Veronica's favorite because it is so student-friendly.
The format is easy to understand and students don't
need to worry that they won't understand their
results since they have the ability to customize the
reading level and type of source they choose to
access. Finally, having the ability to complete all
note-taking and citation building within the site
saves so much time and frustration for students who
$995 typically try to skimp on these processes.

Student Resources In Context provides many of the

same helpful features as Research In Context such
as the ability to highlight, type notes, track citations,
choose reading level, and save work to either One
Drive or Google Drive. This resource, however, is
more topic-focused and provides subject and topic
links that are aligned with state and national
standards. It also provides a more vast range or
$995 reading levels as it is designed for grades 6-12.

Ebsco offers a variety of premium content through

databases, e-books, journals and magazines, as
well as a versatile discovery tool for searching
across all library resources. Students can enjoy
using this database for their research needs
because Ebsco places their focus on technologies
that makes the research process easier for all
users. Ebsco was selected due to its usability. This
$4,314.66 is appropriate for all levels.

NoveList was selected because it is a valuable

reference resource that will provide students with
reading recommendations from libraries all over the
world. Students can access information about books
such as expert reccomendations, reviews, and
booklists. This is appropriate for those students at
$530.00 grade level and below.

NoveList 6-12 was chosen to give the middle school

student a more specific avenue to explore reading
reccomendations from libraries around the world.
Just like NoveList K-8, this is a database of reading
recommendations. Students can access this
comprehensive source of information about books
that includes expert recommendations, reviews,
articles, and lists to assist in their reading selctions.
This will provide opportunities for at level and above
$2,227.00 level learners.

This is Christina's absolute favorite selection. The

value that is offered is unmatched. Discovery was
selected because of its pricing, ease of use, and
quality of information that it provides. This digital
resource contains thousands of standard-alligned
resources. This is a great tool for teachers and
students at all learning levels to use during
research, presentations, group work, or project
based learning activiites. Videos and interactive
components will keep students engaged while
providing them with current information at their level
$2,600.00 in all content areas.

One of Breann's favorites, Britannica School was

chosen due to its Common Core aligned, "one-stopshop" ability to meet every students' and teachers'
research needs. The program offers articles, videos,
images, magazine entries, dictionary definitions,

differentiated format. Students are guaranteed
access to a wide array of information across all
curriculuar subject areas that will meet the needs of
every ability level, and teachers can be at ease
knowing students are safely searching a highly
credible source. Breann favors this source based on
frequent use and successful research quests with
students at various ability levels. The bulit-in
differentiation guarantees each of her students
access information at their level so they are able to
comprehend and get the most out of their research
time. The similar format for the various topics allows
for efficient use when creating graphic organizers
for students to organize their notes, and no
advertisements make her at ease knowing her
students can safely and freely explore the

Ancient cultures are a major topic of study in sixth

grade, and because mythology is such a major
aspect of ancient religions, students conduct
research projects on both Greek and Roman gods
to make the concept more relevant. This set of
encyclopedias would be a great resource because it
focuses solely on the gods, heroes, monsters, and
places within Greek and Roman mythology and
provides a comprehensive description in each entry.
Despite the limitation that it is a single set of printed
resources, this set is valuable in the quantity of
entries that it includes. It also lends itself to cross$248.00 curricular learning.

As mentioned in the annotation for the Greek and

Roman mythology encyclopedia set, this is a major
topic in the sixth grade curriculum and is often
taught as a cross-curricular unit. Therefore,
numerous resources should be provided so that
students can access information about the gods,
goddesses, heroes, monsters, and places within
mythology. Unlike the encycopedias, this resource
is a Follett e-book with multi-user access so an
unlimited number of students can access it
simultaneously. This is another one of Veronica's
favorites, mostly because it is a fun topic that
students love. However, the fact that it's a multi-user
e-book gives the school a lot of bang for its buck,
$72 which is something to strive for with all materials.

This resource is a wealth of cultural information

about the many countries outside the United States.
Though presented as an encyclopedia, it contains
text structures that support students who struggle
with comprehension in complex reference materials
such as subheadings, pronunciation, and graphics.
Because it focuses on culture, it can be used in
$801.41 several content areas and for numerous reasons.

Recommended for students in grades 6-12, this text

strives to help students understand the vast array of
popular culture in America during the twentieth and
twenty-first century. The six volume set covers a
numerous variety of topics ranging from the
invention of ball point pens, to Betty Boop, to
Hurricane Katrina. Each decade opens with a
sidebar sharing information about popular things
Americans said, read, wrote, listened to, and
popular figures of the time. Whether students reach
for this out of curiousity, for entertainment, or for
reserach, it was chosen to provide students an
engaging text that gives them a taste of American

With digitial citizenship being a big focus in

curriculum and middle school students being at the
prime age to really delve into the topic, this text was
chosen as a supplement to technology instruction.
This text will help students understand the
difference in various technology platforms, learn
how to determine truthful from untruthful information
on the internet, learn about censorship, social
$45.38 media, and more.

Technology is a major buzzword in education right

now, and it's not likely to go away anytime soon.
Many young teachers are able to incorporate
technology easily and seamlessly into their lessons
because they were trained to do so having been in
school so recently. However, not all teachers are
comfortable with technology themselves and don't
quite know how to make it part of their instruction
and assessment. This resource provides ideas for
those teachers and by being available online by
multiple users, they can access it whenever they
$174.75 feel the need.

Differentiation is yet another major topic in

education today and many schools require teachers
to document how and why they incorporate
differentiation into their lessons. This resource not
only provides helpful information about
differentiation and how to apply it to a secondary
classroom, it also includes lesson plans and
printable documents that teachers can use.
Purchasing the multi-user e-book allows all teachers
$624.94 in the building access to this resource at all times.

Providing staff with multiple copies of this

professional development resource will help them
gain comfort in regards to the Charlotte Danielson
evaluation process and accessing professional
development tools. The DVD will help teachers gain
knowledge of goal setting, mentoring, and
observtations helping them grow professionally.
This resouce includes a professional development
plan, Powerpoint presentation, and teacher
handouts to support the programs implementation.
Three copies of the resource will allow for circulation
$597.00 among staff, allowing availability for all.

Flipped classrooms are an emerging trend because

they fit very well with both the complex thinking
goals of Common Core and the self-direction
expected in the Danielson Model for teacher
evaluations. Providing this book to the staff will give
them the ability to research and begin to implement
aspects of flipped classrooms if that is a challenge
they want to take on. It is a multi-user e-book so that
$129.75 multiple teachers can access it simultaneously.
