Provisioning Hyperion Shared Services Users in Oracle BI Presentation Services

Step 1: Registering the Oracle BI Presentation Services Components with the

Hyperion Registry
Before you can use Oracle BI Presentation Services Components within EPM Workspace, you must
register the components. The process of registering notifies EPM Workspace that the Oracle BI
Presentation Services components are installed. The following steps describe the registration process:
1. Log in to Oracle Business Intelligence.
2. Display the Oracle BI Presentation Services Administration page by clicking Settings, then
Administration.
3. Click the Manage EPM Workspace Connection link.

4. In the Oracle BI Presentation Services Host field, verify the value that it contains. The field will
be populated with the name of the host machine for the current instance of Oracle Business
Intelligence.

5. In the Port field, enter the port number that your BI Presentation Server is using. The default is
9704.
6. Leave the SSL Port field as default.
6

7
7. Leave the Context Path field as default. (analytics)
8. In the Application Server Type box, select Oracle AS 10gR3 if you have installed BI EE with the
default installation option (OC4J). If youre using other type of Application Server such as
WebLogic Server then you need to select an appropriate one from the list.
9. Enter any description for the Description field.
10. Select Use Existing Installation for the Registry Properties File box
Note: If your Workspace is installed at a different machine you need to select the other options.
Please see the configuration guide for the detail.
11. Click Register to begin the registration process, which might take several minutes. You will see
status messages and error messages displayed above the Register button as appropriate.

Step 2: Specifying the External Login for Single Sign-On with EPM Workspace
An external token (or ticket) can be passed to Oracle BI Presentation Services by another system, which
facilitates the use of Single Sign-on with EPM Workspace and Oracle BI. To configure for a token to be
passed from EPM Workspace to Oracle BI Presentation Services for Single Sign-on, you must add or
modify the <ExternalLogon> element of the instanceconfig.xml file as follows:
<Auth>
<ExternalLogon enabled="true" logonPageAllowed=true>
<ParamList>
<Param name="UID" source="url" nameInSource="sso_token"/>
<Param name="PWD" source="constant" value="obips.hss.ssotoken"/>
</ParamList>
</ExternalLogon>
</Auth>

Step 3: Configuring Javahost to Enable the Hyperion Common Security

System Authenticator
You must configure Javahost for authentication, as described in the following steps:
1. On the machine on which Oracle BI Presentation Services is installed, open the config.xml file
for editing from the following directory:
%OracleBI%\web\javahost\config (e.g. D:\OracleBI\web\javahost\config
2. In the config.xml file, uncomment the <OBISAuthenticatorProxy> element.
3. Modify the values for the following elements:

cssURL: Specify the URL of the Common Security System (CSS) configuration file.
useCSSURL: Specify "yes" to use the cssURL parameter to load the CSS configuration
file. Otherwise, the reg.properties file for the Hyperion Registry is used to read the CSS
file from the registry.
logFolder: Specify the directory that holds CSS log files.

ccsDebug: Optionally specify "yes" to enable debugging information for Common

Security System authentication.
processAdministrator: Optionally specify "yes" to allow the Administrator user in Hyperion
Shared Services to be authenticated in Oracle BI. The recommended value is "no".
ssoTokenPassword: Optionally specify a password to indicate that the user name that is
passed to the custom authenticator is a token for Single Sign-on, as described in the
previous procedure. If specified, this value must match the value that is specified as the
"value" for the "PWD" parameter for the <ExternalLogon> element in the
instanceconfig.xml file.

Example:
<OBISAuthenticatorProxy>
<InputStreamLimitInKB>128</InputStreamLimitInKB>
<ClassName>oracle.bi.server.customauthenticatorimpl.hyperioncss.HyperionCSSAuthenticator
</ClassName>
<ClassConfig>
<cssURL>http://knishidalap.us.oracle.com:28080/interop/framework/getCSSConfigFile</cssURL>
<useCSSURL>yes</useCSSURL>
<logFolder>C:\OracleBIData\web\log</logFolder>
<cssDebug>no</cssDebug>
<processAdministrator>yes</processAdministrator>
<ssoTokenPassword>obips.hss.ssotoken</ssoTokenPassword>
</ClassConfig>
</OBISAuthenticatorProxy>
4. Save the changes and restart Java Host.

Step 4: Specifying the Hyperion_Home Environment Variable (Optional)

If you set the useCSSURL attribute to yes you can skip this section. If you set the useCSSURL
attribute to no when configuring Javahost, then specify the HYPERION_HOME environment variable for
Javahost. The Java Virtual Machine of Javahost uses this environment variable.
Specify the environment variable as described in these steps:
1. On the machine on which Javahost is installed, create the hss\common\config\9.5.0.0 directory
in the Javahost configuration directory.
2. Copy the reg.properties file to the new directory.
3. Create the hss\common\config\9.5.0.0\resources\registry directory in the Javahost configuration
directory.
4. Copy the RegistryLogger.properties file from the EPM Workspace installation to the new
directory.
5. Modify the HYPERION_HOME environment variable to have a value of
"<Javahost_Configuration_Directory>\hss"
6. Set this variable by adding XML code such as the following to the instanceconfig.xml file:
<JavaHost>
<JVMOptions>DHYPERION_HOME=C:/OracleBI/web/javahost/config/hss</JVMOptions>
8

9
</JavaHost>

Step 5: Configuring the Repository to Use a Custom Authenticator

You must configure the appropriate Oracle BI EE repository file for use with a custom authenticator, as
described in the following steps:
Custom Authenticator
In the Oracle BI Administrator Tool, open the appropriate RPD file and complete the following steps to
add a custom authenticator to it:
1. From the Manage menu, select Security.
2. In the Security Manager, right-click and select New Custom Authenticator from the popup menu.

3. In the Custom Authenticator dialog, use the Browse button to specify the following value for the
Authenticator plug-in file: sawobisauthenticatorproxy3r.dll
This file exists in the %OracleBI_HOME%\web\bin directory.

10

4. Also in the dialog, set Name to a descriptive value for this authenticator and accept the default
values for Cache persistence time and Number of cache entries. You can adjust the values later
as appropriate for your installation.
Authentication Initialization Block
Complete the following steps to configure the authentication initialization blocks for this authenticator:
1. From the Manage menu, select Variables.
2. In the Variable Manager, select Action -> New -> Session -> Initialization Block
3. In the Session Variable Initialization Block dialog, name the block "Hyperion".

4. In the Session Variable Initialization Block dialog, click Edit Data Source and select the custom
authenticator that you created in Step 1.
10

11

5. In the Session Variable Initialization Block Data Source dialog, click Edit Data Target.

6. In the Session Variable Initialization Block Variable Target dialog, create three new session
variables with the following names, all in uppercase letters: USER, GROUP, and
DISPLAYNAME.
7. Click OK until all dialogs are closed.
8. Save your changes to the repository file.

Step 6: Configuring the Web Server for EPM Workspace

Now you need to configure the Web Server that EPM Workspace is using. You must modify the
configuration of the Web Server so that requests for Oracle BI Presentation Services components are
routed through the Web Server.
If EPM Workspace and BI EE are running on a same Web Application Server then you can configure the
Web Server with EPM System Configurator. However, if your BI EE and BI Publisher are running on a
different Web Application server, which is the case for this exercise, then you need to manually edit the
11

12
Web Servers configuration file after the configuration with EPM System Configurator. With this exercise,
we have EPM System deployed on the default Web Application server, which is embedded Apache
Tomcat server, and have BI EE deployed on the default Web Application server, which is embedded
Oracle OC4J server. So, first we will run EPM System Configurator, and second we need to do the
manual configuration.
Configuration with EPM System Configurator
1. Run EPM System Configurator
Start -> All Programs -> Oracle EPM System -> Foundation Services -> EPM System
Configurator

2. Select Hyperion Foundation -> Workspace -> Configure Web Server and click Next

12

13
3. Leave the default settings and click Next

4. Click Next

5. Once its complete, click Finish

13

14

Manual Edit for Web Server Configuration File

1. Open the Web server's configuration file (httpd.conf), which can be found at %Hyperion_Home
%\common\httpServers\Apache\2.0.59\conf (e.g.
D:\Hyperion\common\httpServers\Apache\2.0.59\conf), using a text editor.
2. Add the following directives, replacing <BIEE_HOST> and <BIEE_PORT> with real values for
the host name and BIEE web server port at the end of the file:
ProxyPass /analytics http://<BIEE_HOST>:< BIEE_PORT>/analytics
ProxyPassReverse /analytics http://< BIEE_HOST>:< BIEE_PORT>/analytics
So it should look like the below. Note that the last two lines for analytics are the ones you need
to add manually. The example below also contains entries for BI Publisher, which will be covered
later at BI Publisher Integration configuration section.
# It is generated part for hfm and calc products
<IfModule !mod_proxy.c>
LoadModule proxy_module modules/mod_proxy.so
</IfModule>
<IfModule !mod_proxy_connect.c>
LoadModule proxy_connect_module modules/mod_proxy_connect.so
</IfModule>
<IfModule !mod_proxy_http.c>
LoadModule proxy_http_module modules/mod_proxy_http.so
</IfModule>
ProxyPreserveHost On

Verifying the Web Server Configuration

Restart the Web Server and the Web Application Server that is running BI Presentation Services. Enter
a URL in the following form into a new browser window:
http://<webserver_host_name>:<webserver_port_number>/analytics
e.g. http://knishida-lap.us.oracle.com:9704/analytics
If you do not see the login page then the Web Server configuration is likely incorrect. Return to the
previous step and make the appropriate corrections.

Step 7: Provisioning Hyperion Shared Services Users in Oracle BI

Presentation Services
Administrators can create groups in Oracle BI Presentation Services and assign users to these groups.
Such groups can be granted access to various components, such as Interactive Dashboards.
To provision Hyperion Shared Services users in these groups, create corresponding groups in Hyperion
Shared Services. For example, if Oracle BI Presentation Services has a group called Sales, create the
same group Sales in Hyperion Shared Services and add the users to this group. The Hyperion Shared
Services users now belong to the Sales group in Oracle BI Presentation Services.
Similarly for provisioning users as Administrators in Oracle BI Presentation Services, create the
Presentation Services Administrators group in Hyperion Shared Services and add Hyperion Shared
Services users to this group.

Integration with BI Publisher

First well demonstrate configuration steps that are required to integrate BI Publisher with Workspace
and later well demonstrate each BI Publisher integrated functionality with Workspace.

Configuration for BI Publisher Integration

Before the Configuration
Before you start the configuration steps you need to make sure the following items have been reviewed
and validated.
1. BI Publisher Enterprise Server Version
Make sure your BI Publisher version is R10.1.3.4 or later.
2. Hyperion Registry Properties file is accessible by BI Publisher
BI Publisher uses the Hyperions Registry Properties file (reg.properties) that is created in the Hyperion
home directory to derive appropriate values for registration with EPM Workspace. This file must be
located on the same computer as the BI Publisher server application.
If you installed EPM Workspace on the same computer as BI Publisher, then when you ran the Oracle
Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) System Configurator, the reg. properties file was
placed in the following location:
<Hyperion_Home>\common\config\9.5.0.0\reg.properties
3. Create a BI Publisher Local Superuser
. The following procedure requires configuring BI Publisher to use the Hyperion Common Shared
Services Security. Before performing any security updates, you must set up a BI Publisher Local
Superuser to ensure access to BI Publisher regardless of your selected security configuration. See
Defining a Local Superuser for more information.
4. Security Integration
In order to configure the BI Publisher integration you will need to setup BI Publisher to use Hyperion
Shared Service for the security. If you already have integrated BI EE security with BI Publisher this might
become an issue, though you can still use Hyperion Shared Service security for BI Publisher and
integrate BI Publisher with BI EE to access BI EE contents. So you can access BI EE as a data source
for BI Publisher reports but you will need to manage your users and groups in Hyperion Shared Service
and in BI EE RPD.

Configuration Overview
To configure BI Publisher for use within EPM Workspace, perform the following tasks:
1. Register BI Publisher with Hyperion Shared Services Registry.
2. Enable Hyperion Common Shared Services security in BI Publisher.
27

28
3. Configure the EPM Workspace Web server.
4. Provision BI Publisher users in EPM Workspace.

Step 1: Register BI Publisher with Shared Services and Enable Shared

Services Security
Before you can use BI Publisher within EPM Workspace, you must register it with EPM Shared
Services. After successful registration, BI Publisher is registered in EPM Workspace and corresponding
Product, Application, Project, and Roles are seeded in Shared Services. Perform the following steps to
register BI Publisher and enable Common Shared Services security:
1. Log in to BI Publisher Enterprise server as Administrator
2. Navigate to the Administration page by selecting the Admin tab
3. Under Integration, click the Hyperion Workspace and Shared Services link to launch the
configuration page.

In the Database Connection for Hyperion Workspace region, enter the Hyperion home
location where the reg.properties file is located. (Note that you must enter only the location of the
Hyperion Home, not the full path to the reg.properties file.)
For example: C:\Programs\Oracle\Hyperion
Note: The reg.properties file must be located on the same computer as the BI Publisher server
application.
4. Click Load Properties

28

29
This will populate the following fields based on the values in the reg.properties file that you pointed
to in the previous step:

JDBC Connection String

Database Username
Database Driver Class

5. The fields in the Hyperion Workspace Registration region are defaulted from the servlet context.
You can update these fields if you want to run BI Publisher in both SSL and non-SSL modes; or
if you are using a load balancer, enter the server information for the load balancer.

BI Publisher Port (e.g. 9704)

BI Publisher SSL Port (optional, leave it as blank)
BI Publisher URL (http://knishida-lap.us.oracle.com:9704/xmlpserver)
BI Publisher SSL URL (Optional, leave it as blank)
EPM Workspace Application Server Type
Select your application server type. Note that the list contains only the application servers
that EPM Workspace supports. With this exercise select Apache Tomcat 5.5x assuming
that you have installed EPM System with the default embedded version of application
server, which is Apache Tomcat.

6. In the Hyperion Shared Services Registration region, enter the following fields that describe
your Shared Services installation:

HSS Server specify the name of the computer where the Shared Services server is
installed.
HSS Port specify the Shared Services server port number on which the database listens.
HSS Administrator Username (e.g. Admin)

Important: You must provision the HSS Administrator that you specify here with the BI
Publisher Administrator role. You will perform this step as part of the Provision Users in EPM
Workspace procedure later.

HSS Administrator Password (e.g. password)

Select Use Hyperion CSS Security Model upon registration. This will automatically
change BI Publisher's security model to the Hyperion Common Shared Services security
model upon restart. This will also be reflected on the BI Publisher Security Configuration
page. Integration with EPM Workspace requires the use of the Hyperion Common Shared
Services security model.

Important: Before making any changes that impact security, ensure that you have set up a BI
Publisher Local Superuser to ensure access to BI Publisher regardless of your selected security
configuration.
Note: If you do not select the checkbox here, you can manually change the security model from
the BI Publisher Security Configuration page after successful registration and restart of the BI
Publisher server application. If registration has not been completed, the Hyperion Common
Shared Services selection will not be available from the BI Publisher Security Configuration

29

30
page. Performing this step manually requires an additional restart of the BI Publisher server to
make the changes to the Security Configuration page effective.
7. Click Register. If the registration process succeeds, you will receive a confirmation message,
otherwise an error message will display.
8. Restart your BI Publisher server application for these changes to take effect.

Step 2: Configure the Workspace Web Server to Proxy BI Publisher Requests

Next modify the configuration of the EPM Workspace Web server so that requests for BI Publisher are
routed through it.
You can configure the Web Server either through EPM System Configurator or by manually editing the
Web Servers configuration file. The option with EPM System Configurator requires both EPM System
and BI EE to be deployed on a same Web application server. With this exercise, we have EPM System
deployed on the default Web Application server, which is embedded Tomcat server, and BI EE deployed
on a OC4J server. So we need to do the manual configuration. For the configuration with EPM System
Configurator please see the configuration document for the detail.
Back up the Web servers configuration files before running the EPM System Configurator to configure
BI Publisher to work with EPM Workspace. After running the EPM System Configurator, manually
restore the Web servers configuration files, then add the /xmlpserver context to the Web servers
configuration files.
Steps:
1. Navigate to <HYPERION_HOME>\common\httpServers\Apache\2.0.59\conf
2. Back up the following files:

HYSLTomcat-autogenerated.conf
HYSLWorkers.properties
httpd.conf

3. Launch the EPM System Configurator using one of the following methods:
From Microsoft Windows: From the Start menu, select Programs > Oracle EPM System >
Foundation Services > EPM System Configurator.

4. When you see "Select the products to configure", select Foundation, Workspace, and Web
Server Configuration. Click Next.
5. On the Workspace Web Server plug-in pane, an entry for the BI Publisher server will display,
showing the BI Publisher host, port, and context root. Select the box for the BI Publisher row as
well as the boxes for all other products that need to be configured with the Web server whether
you have previously configured them or not. When you have selected all products, click Next.
6. Click Next through the remaining screens, and then click Finish.
7. Use the EPM System Configurator to configure the Web server as described in Using the EPM
System Configurator to Configure the Web Server.
30

31
8. Revert to the files you backed up in Step 1 by copying the backed up files back to
<HYPERION_HOME>\common\httpServers\Apache\2.0.59\conf
9. Manually update the Web server's configuration file.
10. Using a text editor, open httpd.conf.
11. Add the following directives, replacing <BIPUB_HOST> and <BIPUB_PORT> with the correct
values:
# It is generated part for hfm and calc products
<IfModule !mod_proxy.c>
LoadModule proxy_module modules/mod_proxy.so
</IfModule>
<IfModule !mod_proxy_connect.c>

Step 3: Provision Users in EPM Workspace

The final step is to provision users with the BI Publisher roles in Shared Services. Provisioning is the
process of granting roles from EPM System applications to the users and groups that are available in
the configured user directories. Provisioning is managed at the user or group level by Provisioning
Managers or Shared Services Administrators. See Oracle Hyperion Enterprise Performance
Management System Security Administration Guide for detailed information on how provisioning works.

31

32
Important: You must provision the HSS Administrator that you specified in BI Publisher's Hyperion
Workspace and Shared Services integration page with the BI Publisher Administrator role. Follow the
procedure in this section to provision the HSS Administrator with the BI Publisher Administrator role.
To provision users or groups:
1. Launch the Shared Services Console using one of the following methods by typing the following
URL in your browser
http://<server_name>:<port_number>/interop
<server_name> : name of the computer where the Shared Services is running
<port_number> : server port that Shared Services is using
e.g. http://knishida-lap.us.oracle.com:28080/interop
Note: Pop-up blockers may prevent User Management Console from opening.
Or, you can open the Shared Services Console by selecting
Start -> All Programs -> Oracle EPM System -> Foundation Services -> Shared Services
Console
2. On the Logon screen enter the Hyperion Shared Service Administrator username and password
(e.g. Admin/password)
3. Locate the Shared Services node on which BI Publisher is registered.
4. Navigate to User Directories then Native Directory then Groups.

5. Query for the Group to which you want to grant BI Publisher roles; or create a new group (by
right-clicking "Groups" in the tree).
6. Select and right-click the Group.
7. From the right-click menu, select Provision.

32

33

8. From the Available Roles list, expand the heading for BI Publisher, then BI Publisher Enterprise
to see the list of available BI Publisher roles.

9. Use the shuttle buttons to move the desired roles from the Available Roles list to the Selected
Roles list.
10. Save the changes. A Provision Summary will display to confirm your changes.

33

34
11. Double click on a group (e.g. Common)

12. Add your users, which you want to use with Workspace, to the group. Make sure you add
Admin user to this group.

13. Click Save.

34

35
Now you need to go back to BI Publisher Enterprise server and setup the group you have provisioned in
Hyperion Shared Service Console.
1. Login to BI Publisher
2. Select Admin tab
3. Select Roles and Permissions
You should see a new Role that you have defined in Shared Service Console. (e.g Common)
4. Assign BI Publisher Folders and Data Sources to this group
Now you need to add appropriate Folders to this group so that any users, which have been
added to the group (e.g. Common), can access to the reports under the Folders

Now your Hyperion Shared Service users are provisioned to use BI Publisher functionality in
Workspace.
Note that BI Publisher fetches only the Shared Services Groups that have been assigned seeded BI
Publisher roles. If the group does not have any seeded BI Publisher roles assigned to it, it is not
displayed in BI Publisher's Roles and Permissions tab.
Once you have set up BI Publisher to use the Hyperion Common Shared Services Security model you
will no longer be able to create users or roles in the BI Publisher Security Center. All users and roles
must be created using Hyperion Shared Services. Use the BI Publisher Administrator Security page to
assign BI Publisher folders and data sources to the roles you created in Shared Services.
