OBJECTIVE
NIFT will offer Ph.D. in the areas of design, management and
technology as applied with broad reference to textiles,
fashion, lifestyle and apparel sectors of the industry. The
programme is designed for the purpose of conducting
research in textiles, fashion and the apparel sector to create
a body of original knowledge for the use of academia and
industry at large.
HOW TO APPLY
The Application has to be made in requisite format as per
the attached Form. The completed Application Form has to
be submitted along with a separate 500 word outline of
research proposal.
This research proposal is the most important part of the
Application. It will be expected to clearly set out an
appropriate set of issues to be explored through research. It
should include an indication of the approach that the
candidate intends to take during research (e.g. literature-
based/empirical/experimental/practice-based research) and
identify what is sought to be achieved as an outcome. The
proposed research can be related to any previous
work/studies carried out by the candidate.
One can apply for full time or part time programme.
SHORTLISTING, SELECTION & PRELIMINARY
REGISTRATION
On the basis of the research proposal and the Form
submitted, the candidates will be shortlisted and invited for
a personal interview. Based on the interview, the final
selection of the candidates for the preliminary registration
for Ph.D. will be done.
ELIGIBILITY
Following qualifications will be considered for
admission to the Ph.D. programme.
1. Full time Post-graduation degree in the
relevant area of Design, Management or
Technology (Table 1) from NIFT or an
equivalent institute of international standing
with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point
Average (CGPA) of 6.0 on a 10 point scale or
equivalent as determined by the Institute
wherever letter grades are awarded; or 55%
marks in aggregate (of all the
years/semesters) where marks are awarded.
2. An employee of a Public Sector
Undertaking, a Government Department, a
Research/Development Organisation, or a
Private Industry or an Educational Institution,
with a minimum qualification as given in
Table 1 and relevant working experience of
two years may be considered for admission
as a sponsored full-time/part-time
research scholar. Sponsored applicants will be
eligible for admission provided they are
treated by their employers as on duty with their
normal salary and allowances and are fully
relieved for the period of study. Part-time
applicants will be eligible provided that:
a. The applicant possesses the minimum
entry qualifications for the degree as given
in Table 1.
b. The applicant provides sufficient proof
that his/her official duties permit him/her to
devote sufficient time to research.
c. Facilities for research are available
at the applicant's place of work in
the chosen field of research.
