1.0 SUBJECT
Sikadur Injection Gel AnchorFix Adhesive Anchoring
Systems.
2.0 DESCRIPTION
2.1 Sikadur Injection Gel FS AnchorFix-3 and Sikadur
Injection Gel AnchorFix-4:
2.1.1 General: The Sikadur Injection Gel AnchorFix
Adhesive Anchoring Systems consist of two-component
structural epoxies that are used to bond threaded rods or
steel reinforcing bars in predrilled holes in normal-weight,
stone aggregate concrete. The Sikadur Injection Gel
AnchorFix Adhesive Anchoring Systems are available in
Fast Set (FS AnchorFix-3) and regular (AnchorFix-4)
formulations. Gel and curing times are noted in Table 2.
The anchor systems are alternatives to cast-in-place
anchors described in Section 1923.1 of the 1997 Uniform
Building Code, and Section 1912 of the 2000
International Building Code . The anchor systems may also
be used where an engineered design is submitted in
accordance with Section R301.1.2 of the 2000 International
Residential Code (IRC).
2.1.2 Materials:
2.1.2.1 Adhesive: Sikadur Injection Gel AnchorFix
adhesives are two-component epoxies that are packaged
in equal-volume side-by-side plastic cartridges. The
components include a base resin and hardener that are
mixed in a one-to-one ratio as they are dispensed through
a disposable mixing nozzle (supplied by Sika Corporation)
by a manually or pneumatically activated dispensing tool.
Fast Set (FS AnchorFix-3) and regular (AnchorFix-4)
versions are available. The shelf life of the adhesives is
two years when they are stored in a dry environment at
temperatures between 40/F and 90/F (4.4/C and 32.2/C).
2.1.2.2 Anchor Rods: Threaded rods range in diameter
from 3/8 to 11 /4 inches (9.5 to 31.8 mm) and must be
manufactured from carbon steel in compliance with ASTM
A 36, ASTM A 307, or ASTM A 193, Grade B7. Stainless
steel threaded rod must be manufactured from AISI Type
304 or 316 materials. Specification and installation
requirements for threaded rod are listed in Table 1.
2.1.2.3 Reinforcing Bars: Deformed reinforcing bars
range in size from No. 3 to No. 10 and must be

manufactured from steel conforming to ASTM A 615, A

616, A 617, or A 706, Grade 40 or 60. Specification and
installation requirements for reinforcing bars are listed in
Table 6.
2.1.2.4 Concrete: Anchors are installed in normal-weight,
stone aggregate concrete having a compressive strength,
at the time of anchor installation, as noted in Tables 4, 5, 8,
and 9.
2.2 Design:
Allowable static loads for anchors installed in accordance
with this report are listed in Tables 4, 5, 8, and 9. The
allowable tension and shear loads for the adhesive anchors
must be adjusted for elevated temperatures in accordance
with Figure 1, and adjusted for spacing and edge effects in
accordance with Tables 3 and 7. Allowable loads for
anchors subjected to combined shear and tension loads
are determined by the following equation:
(Ps/Pt) + (Vs /Vt) # 1
where:
Ps =

Applied service tension load.

Pt =

Allowable service tension load.

Vs =

Applied service shear load.

Vt =

Allowable service shear load.

AnchorFix-4 Anchors are permitted for dead load, live

load, seismic (earthquake) load and wind load applications,
as noted in the tables.
Threaded rods installed with Sikadur Injection Gel FS
AnchorFix-3 are permitted for short-term loads only, such
as those resulting from wind or earthquake loads. Sikadur
Injection Gel FS AnchorFix-3 used with reinforcing bars are
permitted to resist short-term wind loads only.
2.3 Installation:
Anchors must be installed in accordance with Sika
Corporations published installation instructions and the
requirements of this report. Anchor holes are predrilled into
normal-weight concrete at a predetermined depth, using
hand-held rotary hammer drills with a carbide-tipped drill bit
that complies with ANSI B 212.15-1994. The anchor hole
must be cleaned of dust and debris using oil-free
compressed air and a nylon brush. Holes are permitted to
be dry or damp, but all standing water must be removed.
The drill bit diameter, embedment depth, spacing, edge
distance, and concrete must comply with the requirements
in Tables 1 through 9.
Prior to injection of the adhesive into the anchor holes, an
initial amount of adhesive is dispensed through a static
mixing nozzle until the two adhesive components are

are not to be construed as representing aesthetics or any other attributes not specifically addressed, nor are they to be construed as
an endorsement of the subject of the report or a recommendation for its use. There is no warranty by ICBO E valuation Service, Inc., express or implied,

uniformly blended. That initial amount of adhesive is
discarded. The Sikadur Injection Gel FS AnchorFix-3 or
AnchorFix-4 adhesive is then injected into the hole, starting
at the bottom, until the hole in the concrete is approximately
one-half full. The threaded rod or reinforcing bar, that is
free of oil, scale and rust, is inserted into the hole while
rotating to the required embedment depth.

ER-6182
adhesive anchors subjected to fatigue or shock
loading is unavailable at this time, the use of
these anchors under these conditions is beyond
the scope of this report.
4.7 Anchors are not permitted for use in conjunction
with fire-resistive construction. Exceptions are:

2.4 Special Inspection:

Anchors resist wind or seismic loading only.

Adhesive anchor installations require special inspection in

accordance with Section 1701 of the UBC and Section
1704 of the IBC. Section 1704 of the IBC also applies to
the IRC. The special inspector must record the product
description, including adhesive; expiration date; concrete
type and strength; drill bit dimensions in compliance with
this report; hole diameter, depth and cleanliness; anchor
rod diameter, length and steel grade; adhesive application;
anchor embedment; and verification that the anchor
installation is in accordance with the manufacturers
published installation instructions and this report.

For other than wind or seismic loading, special

consideration is given to fire exposure
conditions.

2.5 Identification:
The adhesives are identified by packaging bearing the
manufacturers name (Sika Corporation) and address, the
product name, the material type, the batch number, the
expiration date, and the evaluation report number (ER6182).

REDUCTION FACTOR

The listed values are the minimum distances required to obtain the load values listed in Tables 4 and 5. D = Anchor diameter. When adjacent
anchors are different sizes or embedment depths, use largest value for D.
The listed values are the minimum distances at which the anchor can be set, when load values are adjusted with the reduction factor noted in this
table.
3
Load values in the tables are multiplied by the reduction factor noted in this table for anchors installed at the minimum distance. Linear interpolation
is allowed for spacing and edge distances that fall between critical and minimum distances. When a group of anchors is affected by both reduced
spacing and reduced edge distance, the spacing and edge reduction factors must be combined (multiplied).

For SI: 1 inch = 25.4 mm, 1 psi = 6.89 kPa, 1 lbf. = 4.48 N.
1
Allowable load must be the lesser of the values based on bond or steel strength.
2
For earthquake and wind application with A193 Grade B7 threaded rod, the lesser of the tabulated bond strength and the allowable steel strength
may be adjusted for duration of the load in accordance with Section 1612.3.3 of the UBC or Section 1605.3.2 of the IBC. The threaded rod
must have a diameter / embedment ratio of 12, maximum. For earthquake and wind application with Type 304 / 316 SS threaded rod, reduce the
allowable steel strength using a load factor of 0.92. The lesser of this reduced steel strength and tabulated bond strength
may be adjusted for duration of the load in accordance with Section 1612.3.3 of the UBC or Section 1605.3.2 of the IBC. For earthquake
application with A36 and A307 threaded rod, reduce the allowable steel strength using a load factor of 0.48. The lesser of this reduced steel strength
and tabulated bond strength may be adjusted for duration of load in accordance with Section 1612.3.3 of the UBC or Section 1605.3.2 of
the IBC. For wind application with A36 and A307 threaded rod, the allowable load must be the lesser of the tabulated bond strength and the
allowable steel strength.
3
The tabulated values are for anchors installed with spacing (scr) and edge distance (ccr) in accordance with Table 3. The reduction factors listed in
Table 3 must be applied to the values listed in the bond strength / concrete capacity column.
4
The tabulated tension load values are for anchors installed in normal-weight concrete that has reached the designated ultimate compressive strength
at the time of the installation. Linear interpolation may be used for concrete strengths between those listed.
5
Tabulated allowable loads for the Sikadur Injection Gel FS AnchorFix-3 adhesive, based on bond strength, are calculated based on a safety factor of
5.33. When using the Sikadur Injection Gel AnchorFix-4 adhesive, the bond strength may be increased by 25%, resulting in a value based on a
safety factor of 4.00.
6

1
Allowable load must be the lesser of the bond or steel strength.
2
For short-term loading due to earthquakes or wind, allowable shear loads for anchors with A36 and A307 threaded rods may be adjusted
in accordance with Section 1612.3.3 of the UBC or Section 1605.3.2 of the IBC. A36 and A307 values must be used instead of listed values for
higher strength steels for these loading conditions.
3
The tabulated values are for anchors installed with spacing (scr) and edge distance (ccr) in accordance with Table 3. The reduction factors listed in
Table 3 must be applied to the values listed in the bond strength / concrete capacity column.
4
The tabulated shear load values are for anchors installed in normal-weight concrete that has reached the designated ultimate compressive strength
at the time of the installation. Load values can also be used for anchors installed in normal-weight concrete that has reached compressive strengths
that are greater than the designated ultimate compressive strength.
5
Tabulated allowable loads for the Sikadur Injection Gel FS AnchorFix-3 adhesive, based on bond strength, are calculated based on a safety factor
of 5.33. When using the faster setting Sikadur Injection Gel AnchorFix-4 adhesive, the bond strength may be increased by 33 1/3%, resulting in a
value based on a safety factor of 4.00.
6
The minimum concrete member or slab thickness must be greater than 1.5 times the anchor embedment depth.
7
Adhesive anchors experience a reduction in shear capacity with increased ambient temperatures. See Figure 1 for applicable load factors.
8
Special inspection in accordance with Section 2.4 must be provided for all anchor installations.

The listed values are the minimum distances required to obtain the load values listed in Tables 8 and 9. D = Anchor diameter. When
adjacent anchors are different sizes, use largest value for D.
The listed values are the minimum distances at which the anchor can be set, when load values are adjusted with the reduction factor
noted in this table.
3
Load values in the tables are multiplied by the reduction factor noted in this table for anchors installed at the minimum distance. Linear interpolation
is allowed for spacing and edge distances that fall between critical and minimum distances. When both affect a group of anchors reduced spacing
and reduced edge distance, the spacing and edge reduction factors must be combined (multiplied).
