3. 3. Motivation

Good morning Maam.

The teacher show the number wheels.

Spin the wheels and let pupils see

where the pointers stop. Instruct them

The teacher shows a segment of the
number line. Have them study the
segment of the number line.
2. 2. Discussion

with and ends in set A?

How about in set B?

(Call on the volunteer to plot the

following given numbers on the number
line.)
In which hundred is 142 nearer?
In which hundred is 253 nearer?
In which thousand is 1,942 is nearer?
In which thousand is 2, 535 is nearer?
To what place value was the number in
set A and set B rounded?

Set A starts with 100 and ends with 200

and start with 200 and ends with 300.
Set B starts with 1000 and ends with
2000, and start with 200 and ends with
300.

100

200
300

To the nearest hundreds and nearest

thousands.

Very Good! Class, the number can be

rounded to the nearest hundreds and
nearest thousands. Since it is the
highest place value ,after rounding off
add the given numbers.
The teacher presents another example.

487

5425
+1238

(Let the pupils identify the hundreds or

thousands each number closest.)
What is the rule of rounding number
using the given number?
Very Good!

The numbers are rounded in their

greatest or highest place value and
then add.
