Manual setting of parameters related to FSSB

1 Outline
In FANUC Series30i/31i/32i/35i - MODEL B, parameters related to FSSB can be set using manual
or automatic setting. When automatic setting is selected, axis settings are calculated automatically
according to the interrelationships between axes and amplifiers entered on FSSB screen. On the
other hand, when manual setting is selected, the specification of FSSB is expanded although all
parameters related to FSSB must be set.
In this material, the specifications and parameters related to FSSB in manual setting are shown.

2 Specifications
The specifications of FSSB in manual setting are explained below. Please refer to the connection
manual (B-64483EN_01), too. If there are differences between the contents of connection manual
and this material, the contents of this material prevails.

2.1 Maximum number of axes for each FSSB line


FSSB can connect more axes in manual setting than automatic setting. The following table shows
the maximum number of axes in each setting mode. Here, the maximum number of axes means
the total number of servo axes, spindle axes, and separate detector interface units that can be
connected to the FSSB line. One separate detector interface unit corresponds to one axis.

2.2 Setting of HRV control for each FSSB line


The number of servo axes which one processor can control is different in each control mode. When
using a fast control mode such as HRV4 or a high precision learning control, the controllable axes
decrease. On the one hand, in automatic setting, there is a rule that all servo axes of one control
unit is set the same control mode.
For example, if only one HRV4 axis is needed, all other axes are also set HRV4 and there are
cases that total axes are limited.

On the other hand, if all parameters related to FSSB is set in the manual setting mode, it is
possible to specify different control mode to each FSSB lines of the servo card, or a servo card and
an additional axis board. As a result, the number of servo processors may be reduced, or an
additional axis board may become unnecessary by specifying the high-speed control mode only to
FSSB line which the axis required high-speed control is connected to.

Limitation in manual setting

The same control mode must be set to axes on the same FSSB line.
HRV2 and HRV4 cannot be used at a time in a control unit.
The same control mode must be set to axes controlled by a same servo processor.
The feedback from the separate detector interface unit is not available for the full-closed loop
control of the axis connected to a FSSB line in different control mode from control mode of the
servo axis. And the feedback from a separate detector interface unit cannot be shared
between a servo card and an additional axis board. In this case, it is necessary connect a
separate detector to a separate detector interface unit on the FSSB line that the servo axis is
connected to.

Valid data range: 0 to 80
This parameter associates each control axis with a specific servo axis.
With an axis for which Cs contour control/spindle positioning is to be performed, set
-(spindle number) as the servo axis number.
Example) When exercising Cs contour control on the fourth controlled axis by using the first
spindle, set -1.
For tandem controlled axes or electronic gear box (EGB) controlled axes, two axes need to
be specified as one pair. So, make a setting as described below.
Tandem axis:
For a master axis, set an odd (1, 3, 5, 9, ...) servo axis number. For a slave axis to be paired, set
a value obtained by adding 1 to the value set for the master axis.
EGB axis:
For a slave axis, set an odd (1, 3, 5, 9, ...) servo axis number. For a dummy axis to be paired, set
a value obtained by adding 1 to the value set for the slave axis.
The usable axis number varies according to HRV setting or the type of a servo card or an
additional axis board. A printed circuit board for axes control such as a servo card or an additional
axis board has one to six processors to control servo motors, and each processor is assigned eight
axis numbers.

The relationship of the usable servo axis number between axis controlling boards and HRV
mode
The following figure shows the usable axis number for each axis controlling board in each HRV
control mode. Servo processors #1 to #6 can control servo axes on the first or second FSSB line,
and servo processors #7 to #10 can control servo axes on the third FSSB line.

However, when the HRV control mode of the first FSSB line differs from that of the second FSSB
line, axes controlled by the servo processor #1 need to be connected to the first FSSB line.

Caution
Servo axis number in each servo processor must be used sequentially from the
smallest number. For example, servo axis number 3, 4, 5, and 6 cannot be used without
using servo axis number 2 in HRV2.

Parameter 2013#0 of the axis used in HRV3 control must be set 1 and parameter 2014#0 of the
axis used in HRV4 control must be set 1. When both parameters are set to 0 or the FSSB line has
no servo axis, the FSSB line is in HRV2 control mode.
Caution
Servo axes on the same FSSB line must be set the same value.
Servo axes controlled by the same servo processor must be set the same value.
When there is an axis in HRV4 mode, the other axes must be specified HRV3 or HRV4
mode to avoid the combination of HRV2 and HRV4.
High-speed HRV3 function (J398) is necessary to use HRV3 control, and high-speed
HRV4 function (J399) is necessary to use HRV4 control.

The slave is a generic term for servo amplifiers, spindle amplifiers and separate detector
interface units connected via an FSSB optical cable to the CNC. Numbers 1 to 32 are assigned to
slaves, with younger numbers sequentially assigned to slaves closer to the CNC.
A 2-axis amplifier consists of two slaves, and a 3-axis amplifier consists of three slaves. In each of
these parameters, set a value as described below, depending on slave types or nonexistent.
When the slave is a servo amplifier:
Set the axis number of a servo amplifier to allocate (value set with parameter No. 1023) plus
1000.
When the slave is a spindle amplifier:
Set the spindle number of a spindle to allocate (value set with parameter No. 3717) plus 2000.
When the slave is a separate detector interface unit:
Set 3001, 3002, 3003, and 3004, respectively, for the first (one connected nearest to the CNC),
second, third, and fourth separate detector interface units on the first FSSB line. Similarly, set
3005 to 3008 on the second FSSB line, and set 3009 to 3012 on the third FSSB line.
When the slave is nonexistent:
Set 1000.

Appendix
Selection of axis controlling board when two HRV control modes are used
The following table shows the necessary type of a servo card and an additional axis board when
two HRV control modes are used.
AXX: Servo card AXX
AD: Additional axis board (AXX+AD written the table means that the combination of servo axes
requires servo card AXX and an additional axis board)
For example, when total servo axes are six, and three of them need HRV4 control, servo card A26
is required to have to set HRV4 control mode for all axes previously. But, when three axes connect
to the first FSSB line in HRV4 control mode, and the other axes connect to the second FSSB line
in HRV3 control mode, servo card A24 can be used. But to use two HRV control mode do not
always decrease the number of DSP.
Conversely, the combination with * in the table can reduce the number of DSP by increasing fast
HRV axes. For example, when you need 17 HRV3 servo axes and 1 HRV4 servo axis, the system
need servo card A24 and an additional axis board. But, by changing into 15 HRV3 servo axes and
3 HRV4 servo axes, the system need servo card A13 and an additional axis board. Go from the
place with * to lower right, and select the place without *.
Furthermore, although spindle amplifiers and separate detector interface units are not written in
the table, they are connected to FSSB lines. The number obtained by subtracting the number of
servo axes from the maximum number of axes for each FSSB line is the connectable total number
of spindle amplifiers and separate detector interface units.
