5. Introduction and Objectives of the Project. In each assignment in this class
please focus on What Problems You Want to Solve and How? This will
make you a more efficient and better professional.

The objective of this project is to review risky processes and determine

potential methods to improve them. The end result should be a list of
processes for Earlsfort Enterprises and plans to improve them.
6. A brief description of the methodologies applied
A PFRA spreadsheet was used to analyze EarlE and outside videos were
consulted to compare to.
7. The Main Body of the project:
1. Choose one of your collaborative companies, or your own company
(i.e. the 5th company) and address how and why you would apply the
learned methods and tools to improve it in terms of reducing risky
processes. Let me suggest, that you identify a potentially toxic
process, that must be turned into a sustainable green process step...
this would be a good start...
The process to be analyzed here is the transportation of the construction
materials to the marina construction site. This is normally done via trucks
down dangerous roads.
Trucks are not very good for the environment as their large diesel engines
create a lot of smog pollution and noise pollution. Additionally, due to the
heavy weights that trucks carry on highways, the cause additional road
damage and therefore extra construction. Construction itself is not helpful
for the environment because of the trucks that are needed that pollute,
and the materials to create the asphalt itself.
Therefore, EarlE corporation will focus on improving the process of
bringing materials to the construction site. Due to the nature of the EarlE
sites being on water, the major of materials will be transported by boat.
These boats are much more efficient at transporting materials and can
bring them in larger numbers. The boats will be sealed to prevent any
spillage of hazardous materials to preserve the natural landscape.
Additionally, this will add project efficiency, as there is less traffic on the
water, so a better chance of the materials to arrive on time.
However, when a truck is needed, it will be an economical and
environmentally friendly truck. This will include light weight trucks that are
highly efficient, and they will be all battery and electric powered. In the
event boats cannot be used, these energy efficient trucks will greatly help
the project and the environment.
2. Based on what you have seen in the videos (DVD-V and the eBook
videos), identify a risky process, and analyze it using the PFRA
spreadsheet template (in the eBook). Make up missing data. (I am

keen to see that you understand the method, even if the actual data
is not quite accurate.) You can use the PFRA / DFRA template as is,
nevertheless must be able to populate it with your own data. In order
to see a realistic picture I am expecting you to enter at least 12 risky
process steps in the first column of the spreadsheet. (Some students
in the past entered only 2 or 3 risky process steps into the template,
to save time, and therefore didn't see any meaningful results...).
Please keep in mind, that the idea about this course is to learn some
really useful methods, that you can immediately apply at work!
See EarlE PFRA attached below.
3. At this point you have seen what is happening in the company, what
the project management challenges are, and also used our analytical
tool, the PFRA spreadsheet, to identify a risky process. At this stage
you need help from your collaborating companies... therefore...show
how you could collaborate in performing the above identified
improvement processes (to reduce risks, as analysed in your PFRA)
with the collaborating 4 companies given you in your Learning Pack
The greatest way to improve EarlEs process is to leverage the training
resources of RawHyde. RawHyde has extensive experience in training
people off the street how to properly use and navigate motorcycles, safely.
This is important, because as part of the construction process, large
machinery will have to be used efficiently and safely.
Due to the nature of the sites that EarlE will be creating, they will most
likely be in remote areas, with limited human resources. It is not efficient
to bring dozens of workmen and operators from the home office to work
on the site. Therefore, the local human capital must be used to actually
build the site. That local workers may not be as skilled as they could be,
therefore a strong training program on how to use the machines and how
to create the site is necessary.
Therefore, RawHyde will create a strong training program to allow the
lowest common denominator to build for EarlE at these construction sites.
This training will help keep the project on track, which is efficient and
sustainable, but it will also prevent safety issues. This safety issues could
injure the locals, hurt the project timeline, or may cause environmental
spills.
Overall, the training program the RawHyde will provide with EarlE will
allow for a streamlined project management process to give the client
want they need.

4. One more twist, that you should consider... also make sure, that you
identify and explain how sustainable greening could benefit your
company.
A strong, streamlined, green process could only improve the project
management process for EarlE, but ensure that a quality product is
provided to our marina customers at the end of the day. Anytime that less
pollution can be used in the creation of a marina, means only less
pollution that will be released into the local environment. This will allow
EarlE to leave the local site pristine, for all to enjoy, include the local
wildlife.
5. Point out and document in 4-5 sentences 2 risky, not sustainable
processes in each of the FULL LENGTH videos in your eLearn Pack.
Internet Enabled Gadgets:
Wire sheathing process. This is an important process because it insulates
the wires to protect the user from any electrical shocks, can keeps the
wires isolated to continue to function normally. Also, the type of plastic
that covers these wires often have chemicals that do not meet the
Restriction of Hazardous Materials EU requirements. They often contain
too much DEHP, which is not allowed per the regulations. Improvements
in materials that can act as insulates is required.
Caribbean Construction:
Windy, narrow, wet mountain roads. It is very risky to drive around these
roads at quick speeds with many cars going around you quickly. An
accident could happen very quickly, which could cause bodily harm and
could also damage the material on board. The process of traveling on the
roads may not be sustainable as well. The extra pollution caused by the
trucks is not helpful, and there may be more sustainable methods to
transport the materials.
European Construction:
Jackhammering of sidewalks. This is a very dangerous process as it
creates a lot of dust, as can be seen in the video. This dust can get into
peoples lungs and potentially cause health issues for the workers. The
dust can also get inside any manufacturing equipment that is operating
nearby. If the particles are too fine they might be able to enter the
atmosphere and could be deposited elsewhere.
Ford Manufacturing:

Robot welding. Welding by itself is a very risky process, as it is intended

to take a lot of force in whatever structure it is used in. There are many
different variables that are needed to be controlled to ensure that the weld
is strong enough. Due to this, welds perform much better when they are
automated as opposed to when done by hand. In this case ford is very far
ahead with their sustainable process as they have automated their
welding.
Kuala Lumpur Construction:
Window washing. This is obviously a very dangerous process as the
workers are hanging over the side of a very tall building. If the ropes they
are on break, or their harness does not work correctly, then they will
obviously not be in good shape. It takes a lot of work to keep those
windows clean, and the severity from any issues related to that would be
very high. A film on the glass to prevent them from getting dirty would be
beneficial.
New York Construction:
Removing engine from boat. The large diesel engine must be remove
from the ship for maintenance requirements. This requires a hoist to hold
the engine and operators to move it. If the hoist does not work correctly it
might drop the engine. This could damage the engine, and more
importantly, could seriously injure the worker.
6. PANORAMA NAVIGATION MAP: In the eBook please find the
panoramic navigation map of a small USA town with 360 degree
panoramas (very cool new technology I have created and
programmed with my brother). Find this panorama set in the eBook,
review it and explain how you could use this technology for
understanding risky processes, for risk modeling processes, and for
reducing risk. Write about 200-250 words on this after having
reviewed the panoramic navigation objects, as well as the related
links with more pictures, videos and other objects. Please do not ask
me to find it for you in the eBook; IF you read it, you'll find it... but
you have to read it...
This panoramic picture technology could be very useful to understand
risky processes, risk modeling and to understand methods to reduce risk.
As identified above, a method that will be introduced for EarlE will be a
very strong training program, through RawHyde, to provide strongly
trained local operators. These types of operations at the construction site
will not be occurring in isolation. They occur while multiple operations are
going on at the same time, and their interference and cooperation need to
be understood.

This type of complicated process is not easily replicated or communicated.

However, this panoramic technology is a method to show how this
complicated process can link in with one another, and how they are
related. This technology can put to motion and see how the various
moving operations are moving, and where they are in relation to other
operations. For instance, the digging of the location for a slip, the building
of that slip and then the placement of that slip into the water. These slips
are pretty large and how they related to the other aspects of the prject is
very important. This panoramic technology can allow for the person being
trained to understand how they fit and ensure they are placed properly
every time.
7. Last, but not least do not forget your social networking
content. (This is an executive summary, with a hyperlink to the rest
of the material you have documented, based on discussions with
your classmates on articles I have sent you by email, all on your web
site, NOT in a separate file attached to an email! This part of the
assignment reflects your active participation in the class based on
discussions of the articles I am emailing you every week...)
