Dear Sir or Madam: I write this letter on enthusiastically on Angelica Martinez-Salmerons behalf. Angelica was a student of mine during the 2014-2015, and 2015-2016 school years at Garza Independence High School, in English Language Arts III and IV. During these courses, Angelica engaged in research, analysis, argument and persuasion, and both academic and creative writing skills. It is through these experiences that I came to know, respect, and marvel at her varied interests, emotional maturity, and academic abilities. She is an intelligent and perceptive student, capable of great success. Angelica meets challenges with curiosity and an open-mind; two qualities that promise success. This young woman is a skilled communicator, adept at presenting materials within the conventional modes as well as integrating unique ideas and talents. Indeed, while she is a soft-spoken person, she excels when the project calls for integrating multiple topics and skills, as well as considering multiple perspectives. In the time she spent in my classroom, Angelica completed several assignments that stand out. Indeed, she is both an express writer and an analytical thinker. While she often doubted her abilities, her work consistently showed thoughtfulness, attention to craft and detail, and careful consideration. A few assignments that come to mind include an analysis of the novel Sold, by Patricia McCarthy, that led to a research project exploring the prevalence of the sex-trade in the United States, an advertising project in which she analyzed advertisements, identified her peers values, and created a persuasive advertisement catered to those values, and a series of symbolic vignettes in which she really had an opportunity to show of her creative skills. I could go on and on about all of the writing she has done in my class, for she was truly a pleasure to teach. Angelica was one of the most enthusiastic and patient students I have ever had, and her work reflected her genuine interest in the subject and eagerness to learn. In addition to being a delightful academic, Angelica is a likeable person as well. She is personable and open, and seems to easily find the balance between enjoying herself and staying task-oriented. The ability to stay driven even when she didnt want to is admirable, and I only wish that more of her peers possessed this gift. In group settings, she is a clear communicator, friendly and gracious, yet unafraid to state her opinion or ask questions for clarification. She is an ideal team member who motivates her peers. Finally, Angelica Martinez-Salmeron respects the process of learning and enjoys exploring ideas and knowledge over and above what is required. This, combined with her genial sense of humor and desire for challenge make her an excellent student. She will be a great addition to any class and I feel certain that she will be successful at any University she attends, as well as any pursuit she chooses in her adult life. It is with delight that I recommend her for any academic or employment opportunities. Sincerely yours,
Gonzalo Garza Independence High School
