ASSESSMENT, PLANNING AND INSTRUCTION
Pierina took on the task of teaching the class about Community Helpers. She put a great deal of preparation,
thought and care into each lesson. Her lessons followed the Ontario Curriculum expectations and were
engaging and fun for the young learners. Pierina ensured that each lesson matched the academic ability and
attention span of young learners by using a variety of instructional techniques. She varied her teaching using
whole group instruction, experiments, and a wide variety of hands on learning centres for the students. She was
able to make each lesson cover multiple curriculum strands by incorporating math and language concepts into
the Community Helpers learning centres. It showed a wonderful ability to creatively maximize her teaching. She
kept track of student learning through a variety of assessment methods including observation, anecdotal notes
and summative assessment tasks.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Pierina's connection with the young learners came very quick and naturally. Her calm and softspoken manner
kept the student's attention and allowed for a respectful learning environment. Pierina took her time to explain
carefully her expectations of the student's tasks, ensuring they knew what to do when they were on their own
and were confident in their role. She was then very involved and circulated the room during their hands on
learning time addressing student behaviours in a calm and fair manner. Pierina encouraged positive student
behaviour through regular praise and encouragement.

UNDERSTANDING CURRICULUM AND THE LEARNER

Pierina has demonstrated excellent knowledge and understanding of the Ministry guidelines and Ontario
curriculum. She was able to maximize her lessons by incorporating multiple curriculum strands in every lesson
that she did. She varied her teaching strategies in order to make exciting learning activities for the students.

DIVERSITY AND EQUITY

Pierina's natural warmth and caring personality immediately put the students at ease and allowed them feel
comfortable with her. She created opportunities to work with the students in small groups and one on one so
she was able to quickly get to know each individual child and assess their specific needs. She consciously
created lessons that included diverse activities ensuring all of the children were engaged in learning and their
varying needs were being met.

PROFESSIONALISM
Pierina presented herself in a professional manner at all times within the classroom and school environment.
She adapted to changes in the regular schedule with ease and confidence. Pierina collaborated with the teacher
and ECE on a daily basis. She displayed great flexibility in adapting to the demands of a very busy kindergarten
classroom. Pierina's lesson plans were detailed, well thought out and fully prepared in advance.

INVOLVEMENT IN SCHOOL / COMMUNITY LIFE

From her first moment in the school, Pierina presented herself in a warm, friendly manner that allowed her to
form quick easy relationships with sta members. She participated in daily yard duty outside with the
kindergarten students. Pierina was responsible for communicating with and preparing schedules for the Faculty
Advisor throughout the practicum. Pierina created such dynamic learning centres that the school principal
included a write-up and pictures about them in the school newsletter.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Pierina has been a wonderful addition to our classroom. Her warmth, kindness and ability to create an engaging
learning environment will be greatly missed. Pierina's creativity and dedication will make her an incredible
classroom teacher and an asset to any school. I wish her all the best in her teaching career.
