both in Hindi and English. Each item comprises four responses
(answers). You will select the response which you want to mark on the
Answer Sheet. In case you feel that there is more than one correct
response, mark the response which you consider the best. In any case, choose ONLY ONE response for each
item.
5. You have to mark all your responses ONLY on the separate Answer Sheet provided. See directions in the
Answer Sheet.
6. All items carry equal marks.
7. Before you proceed to mark in the Answer Sheet the response to various items in the Test Booklet, you have
to fill in some particulars in the Answer Sheet as per instructions sent to you will your Admission Certificate.
8. After you have completed filling in all your responses on the Answer Sheet and the examination has
concluded, you should handover to the Invigilator only the Answer Sheet. You are permitted to take away
with you the Test Booklet.
9. USE ONLY BALL BLACK OR BLUE PEN TO MARK IN THE ANSWER SHEET.
10. Sheets for rough work are appended in the Test Booklet at the end.
11. Penalty for wrong answers:
THERE WILL BE PENALTY FOR WRONG ANSWERS MARKED BY A CANDIDATE IN THE OBJECTIVE TYPE
QUESTION PAPERS.
(i)There are four alternatives for the answer to every question. For each question for which a wrong answer
has been given by the candidate, one-third (0.333) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted
as penalty.
(ii) If a candidate gives more than one answer, it will be treated as a wrong answer even if one of the given
answers happens to be correct and there will be same penalty as above to that question.
(iii) If a question is left blank, i.e., no answer is given by the candidate, there will be no penalty for that
question.

Exp:
A cryogenic
rocket
engine is
a rocket
engine that uses a cryogenic fuel or oxidizer, that
is, its fuel or oxidizer (or both) are gases liquefied
and stored at very low temperatures. Rocket
engines need high mass flow rate of both oxidizer
and fuel to generate a sufficient thrust. At that time
oxygen and low molecular weight hydrocarbons
were used as oxidizer and fuel pair. At room
temperature and pressure, both are in gaseous
state. Hypothetically, if propellants had been stored
as pressurized gases, the size and mass of fuel
tanks themselves would severely decrease rocket
efficiency. Therefore, to get the required mass flow
rate, the only option was to cool the propellants
down to cryogenic temperatures (below 183 C [90
K], 253 C [20 K]), converting them to liquid form.
Hence, all cryogenic rocket engines are also, by
definition,
either liquid-propellant
rocket
engines or hybrid rocket engines.

In
the
process
of photosynthesis,
the phosphorylation of ADP to form ATP using the
energy of sunlight is called photo phosphorylation.
Only two sources of energy are available to living
organisms: sunlight and reduction-oxidation (redox)
reactions. All organisms produce ATP, which is the
universal energy currency of life. This involves
photolysis of water and a continuous unidirectional
flow of electron from water to PS.
In photo phosphorylation, light energy is used
to create a high-energy electron donor and a lowerenergy electron acceptor. Electrons then move
spontaneously from donor to acceptor through
an electron transport chain.

or leukocytes. They are the cells that make up the
majority of the immune system, which is the part of
the body that protects itself against foreign
substances and various types of infections.
Leukocytes are made in the bone marrow from
multipotent cells called hematopoietic stem cells.
Leukocytes exist in all parts of the body, including
the connective tissue, lymph system, and the
bloodstream. There are five different types of white

different. The refraction of light when it passes from a
fast medium to a slow medium bends the light ray
toward the normal to the boundary between the two
media.

Cholesterol) 4. They decrease the level of HDL (i.e.
Good Cholesterol) 5. They are outcome of the Partial
Hydrogenation and not the complete Hydrogenation,
because complete Hydrogenation would end the double

Exp: Catenation is the linkage of atoms of the same
element into longer chains. Catenation occurs most
readily in carbon, which forms covalent bonds with
other carbon atoms to form longer chains and
structures. This is the reason for the presence of the
vast number of organic compounds in nature

system.

reactions to take place much quicker than the
reactions would occur on their own. Enzymes function
as catalysts, which means that they speed up the rate

Exp: Photochemical smog is nothing but haze in the
atmosphere accompanied by high levels of ozone and
nitrogen oxides, caused by the action of sunlight on
pollutants. Photochemical smog is the chemical
reaction of sunlight, nitrogen oxides and volatile
organic compounds in the atmosphere, which
leaves airborne particles and ground-level ozone.
The brown color is cause by the presence of a various
Nitrous Oxides. Intense solar radiation is not required
to create Smog.

El Nio Modoki is a coupled ocean-atmosphere
phenomenon in the tropical Pacific. It is different from
another coupled phenomenon in the tropical Pacific
namely, El Nio. Conventional El Nio is characterized
by strong anomalous warming in the eastern
equatorial Pacific, Whereas, El Nio Modoki is
associated with strong anomalous warming in the
central tropical Pacific and cooling in the eastern and
western tropical Pacific.
ENSO Modoki events significantly influence the
temperature and precipitation over many parts of the
globe. Depending on the season, the impacts over
regions such as the Far East including Japan, New
Zealand, western coast of United States, etc., are
opposite to those of the conventional ENSO.
Both statements directly picked from Explanation of
Elnino Modoki.

Exp: To save dolphins from extinction, the Union
government has declared them as the national aquatic
animal. The dolphins found in the Ganga are a rare
species.
This decision was taken in the first meeting of the
National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA)
Since the river dolphin is at the apex of the aquatic
food chain, its presence in adequate numbers
symbolises greater bio-diversity in the river system.
Ganges River Dolphins prefer deep waters, in and
around the confluence of two or more rivers. They
share their habitat with crocodiles, fresh water turtles
and wetland birds. The distribution range of the
Ganges River Dolphins in India covers seven states
namely, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh,
Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
Once present in tens of thousands of numbers, the
Ganges River Dolphin has dwindled abysmally to less
than 2000 during the last century owing to direct
killing, habitat fragmentation by dams and barrages,
indiscriminate fishing and pollution of the rivers.
