Struc ture and methods

The multimedia-based training program developed by the SLV

Duisburg is a distance learning course for self-instruction. It comprises Part 1 of the IWE/IWT course with the aim of qualification
to be a specialized welding engineer / technologist. The course is
an approved alternative to the conventional classroom training
and entitles to participation in the examination part 1.

Exploit your time more intensively and determine yourself when

you want to learn. For companies the use of a training program in
the evenings or at the weekend saves working hours and reduces
cost. Furthermore, there are no travel expenses, cost for journeys
or stays overnight and other expenses. In case of learning 2 hours
a day and 5 days a week the participant needs 10 weeks to process all training materials and then apply for participation in the
examination.

The program can be used even without specific PC knowledge

and without a long preceding time in which to become familiar
with the subject. The user selects one of the three modules from
a start menu. In the overview each lesson one can be chosen
individually, thus offering the opportunity to process lessons
in freely personalised order. The understanding of a lesson is
supported by text, sound, images, video films and interactive
animations. The use of those media permits the teaching of the
contents so that practical needs are accounted for. Motivation
to learn remains at a high level. Of course, notebook function,
full text search, bookmarks and help function are integrated in
the program.
At the end of each lesson there is a knowledge test with subsequent evaluation giving the learner information of his level of
knowledge. Further, a general catalogue of questions and homework help the learner prepare for the examination.

An important advantage:
In case of available knowledge single lessons may be skipped or
processed more quickly.

Learning Management System (LMS)

One of the biggest and most innovative new features in
e-Learning is our new Learning Management System (LMS).
The LMS helps you to learn the necessary matter quickly and
easily, includes support in online-forums and provides exercises and test examinations.

This course exploits the multimedia-based possibilities of a PC.

Apart from text and graphical presentations videos and threedimensional animations are applied. Instead of descriptions over
pages, e.g. on the structure of a welding torch, an interactive
animation gradually offers an interactive animation and therefore a realistic and detailed presentation of technical processes
is provided.

Content
Ex amination / further training
The examination referring to Part 1 can be attended at any GSI
welding institute in Germany. According to the rules of the guideline the complete IWE/IWT course has to be finished within 3
years. For information about the complete training courses please
visit our homepage: www.gsi-elearning.de or contact us directly.

The interactive training program comprises the knowledge of the

training in the modules: Welding processes and equipment,
Materials and their behaviour during welding and Construction and design.
Fundamental knowledge of those sections is the basis for the
attendance of parts 2 and 3 of the course.
