2nd Reflection Paper
More than the concepts and applications about Electromagnetics,
I've learned so much more in our EEE 23 DC class.
At the
beginning of the semester, we were given the liberty to choose our
team to work with. Every week, we had to accomplish the tasks that
were required to be submitted the next session. I instantly chose
people I was already acquainted with and hoping that we would work
really well since we were familiar with each other although we had
never worked together before.
I honestly admit that the workload
was not equally divided amongst us.
Most of the time, I would
encourage my team to work efficiently with me rather than me doing
most of the tasks alone.
There were times that the goal of the
tasks was not met because I intentionally did not contribute
expecting that the rest of the group would eventually participate
more than they had the past meetings. Unfortunately, it didn't
make much impact to them; leaving me no choice but to deal with
them and focus on accomplishing the assignment for the rest of the
semester.
I've learned a lot from this experience and would mean a lot in
the future because I believe that situations in the corporate
world are much worse than what we were experiencing inside the
class room.
We do not live in a perfect world and there will
always be people who are inconsiderate, apathetic and
uncooperative.
I have to accept that I am not going to like
everyone and be as I expect them to be. Likewise, I cannot please
all the people around me nor comply with every expectation they
require of me.
Sometimes we get caught in the trap of thinking
that we are nice people. We think that we are going to like
everyone we interact with even when thats not going to happen.
Its inevitable I will encounter difficult people who oppose what
I think.
Yet I have to learn to recognize that conflicts or
disagreements are a result of differences in values.
At the end of the semester, I won't hold grudge against my
teammates. Although it's not written on any syllabus handed out
in the beginning of every semester, it's expected of us to work
and behave professionally. I've learned from my previous Philo
class that whatever your feelings are for someone, that person
will be highly attuned to your attitude and behaviour, and will
likely reflect it back to you. Therefore, it's my responsibility
to remain fair, impartial, and composed. Rather than being
frustrated when dealing with such people, I've familiarize myself
to pinpoint triggers that might be complicating what I feel. It's
easier to change my own perceptions, attitude and behaviour than
to ask someone to be a different kind of person.
