BIRTH THE WORLD

The art of intEgrating today what we need tomorrow

By: Herbert Dreisiti

CONCEPT STATEMENT:
Enhancing the urban landscape and reducing environmental impact of the built
urban environment with the power of plants.
In my Ecological Urbanism Project I had a pragmatic approach to my design. One of
my reflections brought up the thought of a manipulated city with designed green spaces.
Some tragedy I see in this is: can manipulated and planned natural spaces be classified as
real, organic experiences? Meaning, when we plan to design living natural systems in
buildings, is this real nature or is this some hybrid ideology of our existence and application
of nature to our sense and style of living? Passive, active, interactive, aesthetic, and
gathering programs are the foundational opportunities within the site to improve the
community on a social hierarchy.
One of the main ideas I had for my project was to maintain and rebuild severed
connections with nature, our potential, to promote both vertical and horizontal movement
and to have the possibilities of space not withered by program. The community will create
atmosphere that caters to nurturing those who spend their lives nurturing other. The space
will include features which have proven to reduce physiological changes in health mentally. I
will incorporate color and rhythm that stimulates natural scenery. Scale will be used to uplift
spirits through large spaces with natural light. Texture will mimic organic forms thorough out
the center while balance and harmony in the design will evoke a sense of health and peace
of mind.
