Hook:

Everybody has told a lie at least once on his life. Christopher cannot tell lies, he does not
like them. This is why he prefers animals over people, because animals do not talk, so
they do not lie.
Background information:
Can animals be better than people? Christopher states I like dogs. You always know what
a dog is thinking. Also dogs are faithful and they dont tell lies because they cannot talk
Thesis:
Christopher Boone has a very good relationship with animals because he thinks that
animals are better than people and they are faithful.
1st paragraph:
Wellingtons death affected Christopher very much. This is because wellington was his
friend and he appreciated him, but the main reason is that he could not understand why
someone would want to kill the dog. This mystery had him so intrigued that he decided to
get to the bottom of it, all by himself. This feeling of doubt is shown on the beginning of the
book, when Christopher found the dead dog on Mrs. shears garden.
I stroked Wellington and wondered who had killed him and why (Haddon, 2003, pg.2)
This shows Christopher preoccupation for Wellington very clearly, because he went
through Mrs. Shears gate, knelt beside the dog and hugged him, even though the dog had
just died and had a fork full of blood on his body.
This situation made Christopher very sad. He felt like his world was not right, and he
could not understand how could someone do this, and more importantly, how could it be
possible that nobody cared about it.
2nd paragraph:
Christopher thinks animals are better than people, because for him, animals are easier to
understand. He shows how he feels about dogs and people in several parts of the book,
but these two main reasons are important because they are mentioned on the first pages
of it, where Christopher introduces himself and talks about the relevant details of his life.
Dogs are faithful, they do not tell lies because they cannot talk (Haddon, 2003, pg.4)
another reason that explains why Christopher prefers animals is when he states that you
always know what a dog is thinking. It has four moods: happy, sad, cross and
concentrating (Haddon, 2003, pg. 3 and 4)
Christopher prefers animals because he can easily understand what they want to express,
through four easy moods. On the other hand, people have many different moods and
feelings, which are very complicated and hard to perceive.

For Christopher, it is very difficult to understand the faces people make, because he says
peoples faces move very quickly, and he does not have the capacity to process them as
fast as common people do. On the contrary, dogs have basic face expressions, which are
easy to comprehend.
Conclusion:
Christopher likes animals, especially dogs, because they are faithful and they are not like
people that tell lies.
Christopher often finds animals easier to understand than people.
Christophers main characteristic is that he is unable to imagine the thoughts and feelings
of other people. This is why he can easily understand a dogs basic expression.
These interesting characteristics mentioned before are the things that make Christopher
such a special and caring human being full of things to discover. All these reasons make
Christophers unbreakable bond with animals an amazing topic to write a book.
