Absorber

Cooling water flows through the Absorber to the

Condenser. The cooling water in the Condenser cools
down the refrigerant vapor from the the Generator back
into refrigerant. The cooling water in the Absorber absorbs
the heat when the refrigerant vapor is absorbed by the
absorbent.
The Generator
heat the diluted solution by driving heat
source. The diluted solution releases the refrigerant vapor
and becomes the concentrated solution.
At the Condenser, the refrigerant vapor which came from
the Generator condensed by cooling water.
The condensed refrigerant drops on the heat transfer
tubes of evaporator
drops of the refrigerant evaporate
on the tubes. The water through the heat transfer tubes of
evaporator is cooled by the latent heat of vaporized refrigerant.
The refrigerant vapor is absorbed on the heat transfer
tubes
by absorbent from the Generator. The absorbent
diluted by refrigerant vapor goes to the Generator.

Double Effect Cycle

Condenser

Generator

Absorber
Evaoorator

In case of the Single Effect Type Absorption Machine, all

condensation heat when the refrigerant vapor coming from
Generator is cooled and condensed at the Condenser, is
released in the cooling water.
The Double Effect Type Absorption Machine is used the
condensation heat efficiency. The Generator section is
divided into a High Temperature Generator and a Low
Temperature Generator. The refrigerant vapor produced by
the High Temperature generator is used to heat the LiBr
solution in the Low Temperature Generator in which the
pressure(hence the boiling point) is lower.
As mentioned in the Single Effect Type Machine, the refrigerant vapor produced by the Low Temperature Generator is
sent to the Condenser to become liquid refrigerant. On the
other hand, the refrigerant vapor produced by the High
Temperature Generator turns to water as it released heat to
the intermediate LiBr solution. This occurs inside the heat
transfer tubes in the Low Temperature Generator. The
refrigerant vapor produced by both Low and High temperature Generator turn to liquid refrigerant and mixed in the
Condenser before returning to the Evaporator.
In this step, the diluted solution is heated by driving heat
source and by the latent heat in the refrigerant vapor which
otherwise would be released into the cooling water. This
combination means a lower energy consumption of driving
heat source. Moreover, less heat being discarded into the
cooling water translates into a small cooling water. As
shown above.

* The information is typical

Flue and Stack Connection

1. Local regulations regarding exhaust of direct-fired burners
must be adhered to. These instructions shown are typical
and are not meant to supersede local codes in any way.
2. The steel stack should be lined on the interior surface to
protect the stack from corrosion due to moisture in the
exhaust gas.
3. The flue and stack must be heat insulated and provided
with a condensate drain.
4. Do not connect the flue to an incinerator stack.
5. Place the top of the stack within a sufficient distance from
the cooling towers to prevent contamination.
6. Provide a barometric draft regulator or damper if fluctuations or downdraft in static pressure are expected inside
the flue. Some means of controlling the flue draft may be
necessary to insure that proper combustion efficiency is
maintained at all times.
7. If a common stack is to be used, exhaust must be prevented from floeing into the unit(s) that are not in operation.
8. The draft pressure at the flue flange should be designed
for a maximum negative pressure of-5mmH2O.

GENERAL REMARKS ON PIPE-LAYING WORK
1. The range of equipment to be supplied by LS is enclosed by the
two-dot chain line.(
)
2. For pipe diameter, pipe connections, etc., refer to the mechanical layout diagram.[OUTLINE]
3. The maximum operating pressure in the chilled and cooling
water is 8 kgf/cm2
4. Concerning temperature control of cooling water, refer to another diagram.
[CONTROL OF COOLING WATER TEMPERATURE](
)
5. Provide separate chilled and cooling water pumps for each
absorption machine.
Flow rate of chilled and cooling water should confirm to the
specifications.
6. Provide a bleeder in the cooling water line for control of cooling
water quality.

LS Absorption Chiller

7. Install a strainer having a mesh of 10 or so.

8. Install a steam stop v/v(*) to shut off a steam line to a chiller
when the chiller is not operate.
9. Provide the inlet and outlet piping for chilled and cooling water
with the stop valve so that the piping can be cleaned easily.
1) Install thermometers and pressure gauges at locations convenient for servicing in the inlet and outlet water lines.
2) Install air vent valves for water lines at a position above the
absorption machine.
3) Install drain valves for water lines at a position bottom the
absorption machine, and then extend them up to the ditch.
4) For chemical cleaning, install the stop valves for cleaning
between the unit and each stop valve at the inlet or outlet.

Water Circuit Connection Procedure

1. __ _ _ __ Work outside the area surrounded by this line shall
have to be executed at the expense of the owner.
2. Refer to the external dimensions diagram and specification
tables for pipe connections and diameter.
3. Standard supply steam press. Is 1.0~1.5 kgf/cm2
Reducing valve which blowing 1.9 kgf/cm2 Should be located
near the machine as in above diagram if the supply press. Is
higher than 1.5 kgf/cm2 Pipe should be extended from this
safety valve to release excess steam outdoors.
4. Even if a reducing valve is not required, a strain-er, pressure
gauge and drain trap should be pro-vided for each machine
near the steam inlet.
5. The back pressure in the steam drain line should be limited to
less than 2 maq.
6. Determine the locations of the chilled water pumps and the
cooling water pumps in due consid-eration of the pumps
in due consid-eration of the pumps hydrostatic head and lift.
the machine should not be subject to a pressure larger than
8 kgf/cm2 at any water header.

LS Absorption Chiller

7. Concerning the temperature control of cooling water refer to

control of cooling water tem-perature
8. Provide a thermometer and pressure gauge at the outlet and
inlet of cooling water and chilled water.
9. Provide an air vent in each of the chilled and cooling water
lines at a point higher than the headers for chilled water and
cooling water.
10. Lay pipe from the cover of the evaporator and absorber to
the drain ditch.
11. Provide a bleeder in the cooling water line for control of waer
quality.
12. There should be a sufficient clearance for access to the
absorber, evaporator and conders-er to facilitate inspection
and cleaning work.
13. All external water piping are provided with ansi #150 lb rf.
welding flanges by the customer.

Introduction of PID Logic

For optimized control, LS Double-Effect Absorption Machine adopts PID control. As a combination of Proportional,
Integral and Differential Control, PID Control allow better load tracing and faster response. PID action allows smooth
control by removing Off-Set and Hunting of chilled water outlet temp. which are demerits of Proportional action. Integral
action correct Off-Set automatically and Differential Action responses quickly against external influence. Comparing to
typical chillers which are controlled by Proportional Control, microprocessor-controlled LS Absorption machine enables.

1. Constant Temperature control by removing Off-Set of Chilled Outlet temperature.

Therefore, LS Absorption Machine provide excellent process cooling solution in semiconductor, chemical, and pharmaceutical facilities and air conditioning solution in Intelligent Building.
2. Energy Saving because of lower gas consumption which is generated by the reduction of chilled water outlet temperature Hunting.
3. Higher efficiency at partial load because the flow rate of absorbent solution is controlled by digital PID and Inverter.

Control of Cooling Water

Maintenance & Installation
Quality Control of Cooling Water
The cooling water of an open-type recycling cooling
tower lowers temperature of the cooling water using
vaporized latent-heat and is reused. In this case, the
water is evaporated and dissolved salts,
Hardness materials, sulfate ion, etc. in the water will
increase. Namely, condensation phenomena of such
materials occurs in the water, and water quality will grad-

ually be degraded. As the water and air always come in

contact with each other in the cooling
tower, sulfurous acidgas, dust, sand, etc. in the atmosphere will mix into the water, further degrading the water
quality. in the cooling water system, problems with water
are caused by these factors.
Typical problems are corrosion, scales and slimes.

Control of Cooling Water Temperature

Ensure that the cooling water temperature does not fall more than
10C below the design temperature. For example, if the cooling
water inlet temperature is 32C, ensure that the cooling water
temperature does not fall below 22C. During starting, however,
a lower temperature is permissible until the machine reaches the
rated capacity.

1. Be sure to start and stop the fan by means of the

cooling water thermostat.
2. Cooling water thermostat setting value
(When the cooling water inlet temp. is 32C)
22C and below ... off,
25C and above ... on
