Writing Prompt Ten
After starting my Semester-Long Project, I have encountered many detours which has
changed the outcome of how my project will be. While growing up I have done numerous
research assignments. I have figured out what I need to do to have a successful research
assignment. I learned planning the research out ahead of time is needed because you never know
what may come up to interfere with the research.
The first detour I encountered was understanding that my project will not be as successful
if I only stick with one view point. I need to be able to collect analysis about my subject from a
plethora of people all ages. This helped with my rhetorical knowledge because I was able to
identify the problem in the array of text I was reading. Another detour I saw was, what if
technology is not working the day of my presentation? Will we have a back up to continue on
with our presentation? When I began to think of these situations happening I understood how if
any of these things were to occur I would have a major detour in the project. Lastly I understood
research could not be done at the last minute. This is because, I have already found myself in a
hole pertaining finding more stuff for our project. I cannot find a statistic on social media
affecting interpersonal communication in the older generation (ages 30 and up). I started to
figure this is because most of the older generation do no solely communicate through texting,
social media, or simply a screen. I asked my mother how many hours a day is she on Twitter or
Facebook and she responded, Jaylaan social media is not something I worry about on a daily

basis. I may be on either of those once a day if I remember. My mom saying this shows the
division between generations, and how there are actually some individuals who value
interpersonal communication.
I also learned to practice presentation in advance, so you do not just read off a paper or
slide show. Another thing I learned was to make sure in group research assignments to ensure
everyone does their part because what is terrible is to have to do a whole research assignment by
myself.
After discovering all of these things I know I will be able to have a proactive presentation
with my fellow group members. I also should be able to have the ability to articulate how I feel
about what is going on in The Semester- Long Project, which is a part of my critical reflection.
Since this is my last writing prompt, I want to thank you Professor Raymond for all your advice
in my writing and for also pushing all of us to be successful in your class. It was greatly
appreciated.
