This course is Philippine Literature. This course focuses on the study of literary forms or genres as exemplified selected literary
texts from various regions of the Philippines, written at different periods in Philippine history. Students will train in the analysis,
evaluation, and appreciation of Filipino literatures by familiarizing them with the elements, forms, and practices of these genres.
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
1. Read and analyze selections that exemplify the multivalent Filipino experiences and their multi-vocal articulations
2. Understand how the Filipino character is constituted in Philippine literary texts.
3. Appreciate the different types and forms of Filipino literature.
4. Value regional differences and similarities embodied in Philippine literary outpourings.
5. Write a critical response on a Filipino short story, poetry and novel.
6. Transform and extend creatively Philippine literary materials to other artistic expression.

COMPETENCIES IN PHILIPPINE LITERATURE:

VALUES INTEGRATION:
Multi-disciplinary approach towards work should enhance the students in striving their best to achieve the
completion of their work, specifically in Literary Analysis and Appreciation which will provide them an insight of the Filipino character and
instill pride of their own history and heritage, and thus prepare them to confidently deal with the world.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
1. Language of Instruction ENGLISH, FILIPINO, and local DIALECTS will be allowed in the classroom, depending on the literary work
discussed.
2. Attendance Students are required to be in the classroom on or before time. They are allowed fifteen (15) minutes grace period for
this 1.5 hours per meeting class, in which they will be marked late. Three (3) late marks is equivalent to one (1) absent. On the
16th minute and onwards, students will be marked absent. They will be marked FDA should they incur 9 unexcused absences, or
20% of the required attendance.
3. Assignments, reports, papers To be submitted on or before the deadline. Late submissions will be marked zero.

4. Class standing At least 75% in all activities, either written or oral, individual or in group
