Notebooks and supplies

You will be required to keep a notebook. At a minimum, you will need a 1.5-inch, 3-ring binder with 6
dividers. The dividers should include: Homework, Class work, Notes, warm-up, worksheets, Tests and
Quizzes and one for special documents as needed. You will also need: pencils, pens, colored pencils, ruler,
graph paper, highlighters and Sharpener. The most important is pencil, paper and sharpener. In addition to
these supplies you will need a graphing calculator, the recommended calculator models are

Calculator: TI-84, or TI-84Plus, TI- nSpire

Graphing calculators are recommended for this course and are strongly encouraged for success in this class
as well as for future classes.

Grading
The grading distribution for this course
is on the right. Letter grades use the following scale:
A= 90 and above, B=80-89, C=70-79, F=69 and below.

Classwork- 15%
Homework- 15%
Tests 20%
Quizzes-15%
Final Exam/EOCT-20%
Projects- 15%

Final Exam
There will be a final exam at the end of each semester. The exam will cover the materials covered in each
semester.

Performance Tasks
These tasks will be done alone, in pairs, or in groups during each unit. These tasks will be used as a tool to
enhance your learning of the material. You will be asked to present your work during the class and will be
given several quizzes to ensure your mastery of the content. This will also help you to determine what you
have learned and what you need to study more.

Homework
Similarly, homework will be assigned as a tool to help you acquire math content, to help you develop
confidence in problem solving, and to help develop your math skills. If you do not complete your
homework assignment, do not expect to do well in this class. Homework will be graded by accuracy and
completion. I expect you to try your best to complete homework assignments but if you cannot complete,

do your best and we will have time in class to complete the homework assignments. As a general rule I will
not help you with more than 30% of any assignment.

Extra Help
I will always find time to meet with you and go over any difficulties you may have. The scheduled time for
tutoring is every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45PM-4:45PM. However if you need 5-10 minutes on

other days, let me know and I will work with you.

Extra Credit
As a general practice there will be NO extra credit in my class. At my discretion, a few assignments and
tests may have a few bonus points. Do not expect extra credit to help your grade at the end of the semester.

Attendance and make-up work

Being present in class is an important part of this class. Success in class depends on you being in class
every day. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to acquire the notes and homework you missed. If you
are absent you will get the makeup work when you come back but I expect you to look up on my website
for missed assignment and bring to school when you come back. You will have 1 day to turn in the work
without penalty. You may be given a chance to make up the tests and quizzes. It will be your responsibility
to study and get tutoring for missed work so you can be ready for the missed tests and quizzes.
Late Work
You will have to turn in all the assignments on time, there is no extra time allowed to turn in any
assignments. If your assignment is late, you will not get full credit. You will lose 10 points for each day the
assignment is late after the due date. You are not allowed to turn in the assignment after the assignment is 3
days late. This means after 3 days if the assignment is not turned in, you will get a zero for the assignment.

Tests, Quizzes and Final Exams: To succeed in the class, you will have to perform well on
testing which includes tests, quizzes and final exams. Testing will be based on classwork,
homework and what we discuss in class. So it is imperative for you to be attentive and focused
when working on assignments in class and at home. Most of the assignments will be entered in
the grade book, some assignments will not be entered in the grade book but it does not mean that
you do not do those assignments.

Class Rules: The 3 Bs

1. Be prepared. 2. Be involved. 3. Be courteous.

Be prepared means you will bring your materials to class everyday (pencil, paper, notebook, textbook,
calculator, etc). It also means to do your homework and study for quizzes and tests.

Be involved means you will participate in class, try to do the class work, ask questions when you are
confused, and attempt to help your classmates understand the material when you can.

Be courteous means you will show the same respect to the teacher and your classmates as you would like
to be respected. Talk when it is appropriate. Sleep at home, not in class. Stay in your desk unless you have
permission to get up. Work only on my assignments, not another class work. Keep your cell phone off and
the phone is not to be visible during class. Do not play games on your calculator.

Consequences: If you fail to follow class rules or your behavior is not appropriate, you will
receive consequences for it. It may be a phone call to your parent, detention or a referral to
administrator. I believe positive behavior is essential for your success in class.
