TRANSPORT IN PLANTS:

To survive plants need to move, water and minerals around. Plants use two
different systems to do this: the xylem and the phloem. They are made up of
hollow tubes that run up and down the full length of the plant
These tubes are usually found bundled together and can be seen in leaf
rubbings like the one below.

Xylem moves water and solutes (things like minerals dissolved in the water)
from the roots to the leaves.
Phloem moves food from the leaves to the rest of the plant.

TRANSPIRATION
Q1. Why do the leaves need water?
Plants lose water through their leaves in a process called transpiration. Water
evaporates from the leaves and this causes more water to be drawn up from
the roots to the leaves

Q2. Use a blue pencil to draw arrows on the plant to

the right that show what happens to water during the
process of transpiration.
