The work covers all decorative and protective surface treatment required to pipe
lines, ducts, panels, tanks, hydrant box etc. both internally and externally.

All plant, materials and equipment forming part of the Works are required to be
painted with the sole exception of items specifically excluded in this Specification.

Installer: Firm with at least five (5) years of successful installation experience on
M/E work projects similar to this project.
1.4. SUBMITTALS

C. Submit a color schedule of every surface to be painted to the Architect for his
approval.
After the approval of the schedule, submit three properly identified samples of each
type of paint and each color. The sample size shall be 300 mm x 450 mm.
1.5. COORDINATION
A.
The Contractor shall coordinate the work with all appropriate sections of the
specifications as necessary to insure proper provisions for the work of this section.
B.
1.6. GUARANTEE
A.
All equipment, materials and workmanship shall be guaranteed by the Contractor for
a period of one year from the date of final acceptance. Upon receipt of notice from
the Owner/Engineer of any failure during the guaranteed period, the affected part of
work shall be replaced promptly by the contractor at his expense.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS

C. Primers and undercoats shall be supplied by the manufacturer of the finish coat, and
shall be compatible with the finish coat.
D. Only interior quality paint is to be used for interior work and exterior quality paint for
exterior work.
E.
The paints are to be used exactly as received from the manufacturer and under no
circumstances shall the addition of thinners, dryers or other materials be permitted.
Paint supplied which is defective must be returned immediately to the manufacturer.
The contents of the can are to be thoroughly stirred before pouring into the kettles.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
2.1. GENERAL
A.
The requirement for painting of all pipe work and ductwork is in addition to the color
coding or banding that is to be determined later.
B.
C. The Contractor must obtain, from the plant manufacturers touch-up paint kits and
detailed instructions for making good after completion any damage to finishes which
may occur during transportation, storage, installation or commissioning.
D. All equipment and materials requiring to be painted on site shall generally be
painted with one coat of an approved primer (zinc chromate) one coat of an
approved undercoat and two coats of an approved high gloss finishing coat.

Prior to painting, all metallic surfaces except galvanized surfaces shall be thoroughly
scraped and wire brushed as necessary to remove scale, rust and
swarf, Surfaces shall then be solvent cleaned to remove all oil, grease and dirt.
F.
When the surfaces to be painted are clean and dry, one coat of an approved primer
shall be evenly applied over the entire area. After surfaces have been primed, the
Contractor shall notify the Owner/Engineer so that an inspection of the primed
surfaces can be made prior to the application of the finishing coats.
G. When the priming coat has been approved, one coat of an approved flat undercoat
shall be applied. Before applying the finishing coats, the Contractor shall ensure that
the undercoated surface is rubbed flat and smooth. Finally, two coats of an
approved high gloss finishing coat shall be applied when all dust has been removed.
H. Each successive coating shall be completely dry prior to the application of the next
coat.
I.
All surfaces shall be suitably protected during painting to prevent dust and other
impurities entering the paint or adhering to the painted surface. "Wet Paint" signs
shall be prominently displayed and protective barriers shall be provided where
necessary.
J.
All paints shall be prepared and applied in accordance with the manufacturer's
recommendations.
