French Horn was originally used for hunting. Right hand used to

mute sound. Compared to the viola in the band.


Brass Family- Tuba, Trombone, French Horn, & Trumpet.
Trombone was called the sac bat. larger trumpet Compared to

the Chello.
Bassoon Part of the woodwind family. Mozart made this
instrument famous. There is 3 different types of bassoon. 6 parts

to the bassoon.
Debussy- A pternor of a faun. Solo Flute.
Woodwind- Oboe, Flute, Bassoon, & Clarinet

The Instrument Familys- Strings, Woodwind, Brass, &

Percussion
Makris- Aegean Festival (1967). It was transcribed for the band.

First piece for the band Saturday.


Whitacre- Lux Arungux. Transcribed for the band.
Joan Tower- Fascination Ribbons
Maslank- Concerto for Cl. & Wind Essemble.
H. Owen Reed- La Fiesta Mexicana
Olivier Messian- French Composer who influenced Joan Tower
Renaissance- Victoria is a composer during this time. Sacred

music for the church.


Baroque- Bach lived from 1685-1750. Also a composer during
this time period. Another composer during this time was Vivaldi.

Wrote 300 concertos.


Classical- Mozart (Prodigy) was a composer during this time.

Hayden was also a composer during this time.


Mozart, Hayden, Beethoven equal to Miami heats Big 3. They

were all german.


Beethoven between the Classical and Romantic period.
Romantic- Barber was a composer during this time. Mahler as

well. As was Elgar. Strauss another composer during this time.


Contemporary- Stavinsky, Shotakovich, Messiaen, and

Tower were all composers during this time.


Messaien- Quartet for the End of time. Was captured during
World war II. In stalag villa. Befriended a man by the name of

Krull. This peace was based on the book of revelations.

Berlioz (1803-1869): French Composer. Kind of crazy. 90
