A prestigious Marie Curie European Training Network (ETN) position is available from January
2016 onwards for 36 months to work on the project titled Process Fingerprint for Zero-defect
Net-shape MICROMANufacturing.
This is an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) post funded by the European Commission as part of
the MICROMAN Marie Curie European Training Network (ETN). This job opening covers a
3-year research position in the frame of a 3-year PhD doctoral programme, resulting in a PhD
degree awarded by the University of Bradford.
The ESR project will be carried out at the Centre for Polymer Micro and Nano Technology
(Polymer MNT)/Research and Knowledge Transfer (RKT) facility of the world-class IRC
Polymer Engineering laboratories at the University of Bradford. Polymer MNT allows access to
equipment and expertise required for research to develop advanced micromoulding and nanoscale surface feature moulding process. The Polymer IRC is a world leading research
laboratory for polymer, polymer composite/nano-composite and associated materials
processing, including biomaterials and pharmaceuticals, with: 40 advanced manufacturing
lines for melt phase, solid phase and reactive processing, extensive characterisation and
computer modelling.
The successful candidate will be delivering new ultra-precision technologies for the high
volume manufacturing of advanced drug delivery devices under the supervision of an
academic advisor in the area of microinjection moulding in the Centre for Polymer Micro and
Nano Technology. The work will involve new tooling design, development of in-process quality
management systems and optimisation of state of the art ultrasonic and conventional injection
moulding processes.
It is essential that you hold a degree in the relevant subject area (Physics/Engineering), and a
strong grounding in materials and mechanics. Good knowledge or awareness of the
fundamental aspects of polymer processing techniques such as micro-injection moulding is
desirable. Experience in 3D solid modelling, software engineering, and/or materials
characterisation techniques would be an advantage.
Also the applicants must satisfy the eligibility requirements for ESR under the EC Horizon 2020
Innovative Training Network Programme, in particular must not hold a PhD degree and must
have less than 4 years research experience and also must not have resided or carried out their
main activity in the UK for more than 12 months in the three years immediately prior to their
recruitment.
The University of Bradford strives to be an equal opportunities employer and welcomes
applications from all sections of the community.
