Customer statement / workshop findings

High engine oil consumption, no oil contamination/oil loss can be found. No clear information about
the real oil consumption.

Technical background
Different statements and tests for the oil consumption.
For the first 5000 km the oil consumption exceeds the consumption figures listed in the owner's
manual.

Production change
Amendment of the oil consumption quantities in the owner's manuals of VW AG.

Measure
If a check shows that the oil consumption is over the standard specified by the manufacturer, the
costs for the check and the repair are paid by the manufacturer under warranty.
If the check shows an oil consumption within the standards, no repairs will be carried out and the
customer must pay the costs.
To clearly establish the oil consumption, the following work is necessary:

Use new oil for the oil consumption measurement.

Follow the instructions for the oil consumption measurement in the guided fault finding of the
VAS 5051. The instructions are divided in "Start oil consumption measurement" and "Assess
measurement (after the test drive)".

Reuse and complete the protocol of the first part for the assessment.

Repairs must only be carried out, if they are necessary as a result of the oil consumption
measurement.

For warranty work the protocol of the measurement must be provided, otherwise the costs may
be redebited.

If the oil warning light comes before completing the 1000 km, measure the consumption up to
then.
