Tutorial
Stress Intensity Factors

Geometry
From ABAQUS/CAE create
a new 2D part:
Create a plate of 30 * 40
mm

Once the plate has been

created click partitions
Draw a crack (line) of 15
mm as depicted
Draw circles of 2.5 and 5
mm

Final configuration
Create the material
definition and section
assignments as previous
analysis
Set E=3e5 and =0.33
Assembling
Set the instance part
independent

Creating a Step
Double click Steps under Model tree and
Create a step
Select the Static General and fix it. For
instance:

Interactions and assignments

Click Module Interaction
Click special, select Assign Seam

Numerical computation

Perform simulations
Change the singularity on crack extension
direction from 0.2 and collapsed element side
to Singularity: Midside node parameter: 0.25,
Collapsed element side, duplicate nodes
Improve the model by adding more
elaborated criteria for K factors.
