ADVERTISING AND JUNK FOOD

Advertising called "junk food" greatly influences food preferences of people,

especially children. They are crucial in eating habits. According to several studies,
it was shown that if junk food advertising during a film passed, or cartoon series,
more than 70% opt for junk food as first choice when looking for food.
The advertising uses different slogans that suggest ideas like this junk food
provides energy, which allows to develop physical skills and be very nourished,
when the reality is completely different since it only meets the need of the time and
not Offers some enough energy to move around the day, unlike completely they
lack basic food needs.
Eating habits are being educated from childhood, it should be noted that food is a
very complex mechanism and is regulated by physiological and psychological
factors. Precisely, advertising is the most influential of this psychological factor.
The main purpose of advertising is to get people spending habits have new models
seeking to imitate behavior. The means of communication used to achieve this
goal is television, especially because the main objective is to reach a child
population, who spend some time in front of the televisior where only is receiving
all the messages you see, that is not involved, nor interacts simply accepts the
message without making any kind of reflection and all this together with great
support audiovisual media that induce buying. To children are attracted to bright
colors, promotional gifts or characters that are known fashion, to which the
consumer taste falls surrendered to the food in question. For all explained there is
a close relationship between these three factors: food, advertising and childhood.
According major studies abroad, it was observed that children spend annually 990
hours in front of electronic screens, most of them watching television and only 960
in school, hence it more than obvious to point out the influence that television has

on the sedentary lifestyle of the public and, more specifically, the advertising on
trends in food consumption among children.
The food offered in the media is deficient in fruits, vegetables, fish and vegetables
and excessive fat and simple sugars. There is a clear discrepancy between what
is offered and what nutrition experts recommend consuming, especially in the
infant stage. Most adults work full time and get very tired after the day's activities,
so take the children to eat at fast food restaurants or let them eat chips, candy and
soda for dinner or as a snack at school because it is easier to put on their
backpacks thus creating many health problems in children and your family.

DAMAGE CAUSED BY THE JUNK FOOD

Damage to our body due to consumption of "junk food" are enough and of great
magnitude. This meal is often made with highly processed ingredients to achieve
a specific flavor or consistency and to preserve freshness with apparent. This is
accomplished with the food engineering, chemicals and adding elaborate
processing techniques that substantially alter the food from its original form and
reduce its nutritional value.
Below we provide a breakdown of these damages in relation to different aspects:
DEVELOPMENT:
The lack of nutrients does not allow the proper development of the organism,
lowers defenses and people suffer more often from disease.
These foods lack essential nutrients such as protein or vitamins that the body
needs to stay healthy and functional. While you have the feeling of being full and
satisfied, it does not provide energy, so that in time you feel weak and tired. If some
form of junk food is integrated into every meal of the day for a certain period of
time you can develop chronic fatigue, leading energy levels at a level so low that
it may be difficult to perform the simplest tasks.

Childhood obesity: This childhood obesity between 6 and 12 years of age, due to
excessive consumption of junk food, increased considerably and is strongly
associated with the presence of type II diabtes caused by poor diet.
SCHOOL PERFORMANCE AND MENTAL HEALTH:
The ability to study decreases considerably, resulting in poor school performance.
It affects the progression, academic achievement, impairs memory and learning in
general.
Junk food intake causes changes in mental health making the most likely people
to depression mainly due to lack of essential nutrients that regulate the hormonal
system.
DISEASES:
The consumption of junk food contributes to the increase of chronic diseases in
both children and adults.
Can cause digestive problems. People with an addiction to junk food will surely
suffer digestive problems like acid reflux or irritable bowel syndrome, because
these foods are fried. The oil in the food is deposited on the walls of the stomach
and increases the production of acid, which irritates the stomach and aggravates
reflux and digestion. Lack of fiber obstructs digestion and increases the risk of
constipation and hemorrhoids.
Increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Fast food is mainly made up of
saturated fats and trans fats, which directly increase levels of triglycerides and
"bad" cholesterol (LDL) in the blood, leading to the formation of plaques and
cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, the surge in blood sugar levels coatings
injured blood vessels, leading to chronic inflammation, blocking blood flow to the
heart. If the blockage is very large, heart attacks occur.
May cause kidney disease. The reason why one can not never refuse a plate of
fries is because they contain a high level of fine salt processed increases salivation
and secretion of enzymes that increases craving for these foods. Elevated levels

of "bad" fats and sodium salt affects the sodium-potassium balance in the body,
causing hypertension. As the kidneys are responsible for filtering toxins from the
blood, much junk food intake has a direct effect on its operation.
You can damage the liver. Junk food intake over a period of time generates a
harmful effect similar to the effect of alcohol on the liver. A recent study says that
people who eat junk food and do not exercise have changes in liver enzymes in
just 4 weeks. These changes are similar to those observed in those with alcohol
abuse problem. According to various studies, the culprit for this is the high level of
trans fats have fast food.
Increased risk of cancer. The lack of fiber is the main reason why junk food
consumption is associated with an increased risk of cancer in the digestive system.
Excessive consumption of junk food high in fat and sugars can increase the
chances of developing colorectal cancer.
May cause type 2 diabetes One of the factors contributing to the increase in cases
of diabetes are unhealthy diets, with junk food. Healthy diets provide the body with
a constant flow of glucose, which helps maintain insulin sensitivity. When we eat
junk food, stress generated in the metabolism affects the body's ability to use
insulin properly. As this type of food has fiber consumption leads directly to
increased levels of blood sugar.
Increased risk of dementia. This is one of the most frightening discoveries in
relation to consumption of junk food. It is argued that excessive junk food and
sweets can substantially increase insulin levels in the body, and as with type 2
diabetes, the brain stops responding to the hormone and becomes resistant to it.
This can restrict the ability to reason, create memories and therefore increase the
risk of dementia.
