1.2. Equipment:

1.3 Materials
The size of solid blocks shall be as specified in the item of work/drawings. The maximum variation
allowed in dimensions shall be as below:
TECHNICAL & ITEM SPECIFICATION
The blocks shall be 300 mm X 200 mm X 200 mm for external walls, 400 mm X 200 mm X
150 mm, and 400 mm X 200 mm X 100 mm for internal walls and shall not be more than +/1.5 mm in ht. and breadth and +/- 3 mm in length.
Mortar shall be in proportion of 1:6 ratios of cement and screened sand.
200mm, 150mm, 100mm thick solid concrete blocks in walls and architectural features at all
levels shall be of approved block strength .i.e. (40 kg/sq.cm).
Sand River sand, Robo-Silica as approved.
2.0. LOGISTICS
For all buildings, mechanical winches shall be provided at such a location that is easily accessible to
the load vehicles of C.C.masonry blocks and to manual loading of C.C.blocks, cement bags and sand
etc. in to winch bucket by labourers.
Depending upon the villas accessibility, either load vehicle of C.C.blocks shall be kept at winch and
all the blocks shall be transferred to required levels or if vehicle access is not available up to winch
location, the total load of C.C. blocks shall be unloaded at a convenient point and the same can be
transferred to the top levels using manual labour and winch. For each villa separate schematic
logistic plan shall be prepared before starting the block work in that villa and that logistic plan after
due approval from client/PMC, shall be considered as part of this method statement.
Storage of materials
All the solid blocks shall be stacked near by the working area, but not in working area.
Blocks shall be stacked in such a manner that most of the load will be on beams.
Sand shall be stacked in Empty gunny bags in a neat manner arresting the spillage by
bunding around sand storage area.
3.0. METHOD OF WORKS
3.1 Pre-block work
The blocks shall be semi wet before starting the masonry work.
The floor shall be cleaned properly and all unwanted and loose materials shall be removed.

Check the face of the blocks for plumb with respect to the face of the beam at the upper floor.
Check the dimensions and diagonals of the room.
Check for all the materials and tools are in place.
Necessary tools comprising of wooden straight edge, masons spirit level, square, foot rule,
plumb bob, grooving tools and pins etc shall be available to the masons to ensure that the
walls are taken up true to plumb line and levels.
DPC to be laid before Block work.

Proper opening sizes for the doors and windows along with the plaster provision should be
kept as per drawing.
A 100/150/200 mm thick RCC (1:2:4) lintel (as per structural drawings) above the frames shall
be provided to withstand the load of the above masonry. The RCC lintel shall extend for at
least 225 mm beyond the opening on either side.
4.0. SAFETY
Safe working platform at winch shall be provided for material transfers.
Double propped form work shall be provided for block work at a height more than 1.5m.
CHICKLIST FOR CONCRETE BLOCK MASONRY
1. Check for Availability of blocks as per daily requirements. Is it ok?
2. Check for Cleaning of work Area of Loose Mortar, Concrete Debris, etc.
3. Check for completion of repairs done in structure like Honeycombing, Removal of shuttering
pieces embedded in concrete,
Damages while de-shuttering and hacking concrete surface etc.
4. Check for Alignment & Location of concrete Block Masonry.
5. Check for suitability & safety of SCAFFOLDING. Is it acceptable?
6. Check for Pre-Moistening of concrete Blocks before placing.
7. Check for Mortar Mix Proportion & Joint Thickness.
8. Check for Block sizes and wall Dimensions.
9. Check for Dimensions, Plumb, Levels & Right Angles.
10. Check for plastering tippy / bull marks placed on block masonry face.
11. Check for Bond between Old and New Masonry
12. Check for hacking of structural concrete surface
13. Check for STAGGERING OF VERTICAL JOINTS.
14. Check for (1/2) blocks provided at ends only, and not in the middle.
15. Check for Size of Openings for Doors and Windows?
16. Check for Cleaning & Raking of joints.
17. Check for Sufficiency of Curing for Old Masonry.
18. Check for Removal of Debris.
19. Check for provision of RCC band (100mmX 100mm) for each 1m height in 100mm masonry wall.
20. Check for provision of CC bed for each lintel beams
21. Check the mixing of mortar being done on G.I sheet
22. Check for marking of date of block masonry
23. Check for proper curing period at-least 10 days
