A-PLATE ATTENUATOR
FOR NOISE REDUCTION OF GAS AND STEAM FLOW

The noise created by throttling gas or steam can be effectively reduced by mounting a Neles Controls A-Plate attenuator downstream of the control valve. The A-Plate is a fixed
restriction which divides the pressure drop between the
valve and the plate minimizing the noise generated.
Noise attenuation is achieved by patented, specific hole
geometry of the attenuator plate, which is the result of intensive computational and experimental studies.
When used in conjunction with Neles Controls' patented
Q-Trim, an attenuation of up to 25 dBA can be realized.

Control valve sizing and noise prediction are made easy with
Neles Controls' Nelprof program. Simply enter the flow data
into the program and Nelprof will calculate the optimum valve
and A-plate size as well as the estimated noise level. The
"Flow Control Manual" is also available and it provides
complete details on control valve sizing and flow calculations.

MOUNTING
Option 1. Into the valve body

Option 2. Between flanges

The A-plate can be mounted directly

into the body of a control valve.

Typical installation between flanges is shown above.

Note: When used with butterfly valves or flangeless segment valves with
Q-Trim, the A-plate should not be mounted directely between the valve and
pipe flange. In these cases, atleast one pipe diameter length of straight pipe
is needed between the valve and the A-plate.

Option 1.
Into the valve body
See Bulletin 5 FT 20 for FINETROL valves and bulletin 1 T5 20 for Top 5 valves.
Option 2.
Between flanges
Simply order an "A-Plate" and specify the size and flange connection.
