THE LAW OF ADDITION #5

Study applying to your life on page 60 and Appendix question on page 271

The bottom line in leadership isnt how far we advance ourselves but how far
we advance others.

Remember leaders add value to others by serving others.

Focus on the following questions:
1. List the most important people in your life
2. Next to each name, write down one thing THEY value most
3. Next to each value, write down on a 1 (low) 5 (high) scale how well YOU
relate to their value.
A. Are you making things better for the people who follow you?
Name 5 people in your personal life closest to you.
Next to each name, write 3 ways you show them you care. If you cannot
write 3 ways you show them you care daily, write 3 ways you are willing to
do.
Now, name 5 people in your business life that you lead.
Next to each name, write 3 ways that you display actions every day of
caring, sharing and lifting.
Now, ask yourself are you willing to do this without recognition?

B. Commit here to make it a practice for those 10 people in your life

everyday to show actions of the heart. Enter your commitment on your
daily calendar.
C. How do you add value to others?
D. Discuss the difference between being in charge vs. building a great
company.
Do you have an open door policy?
Do your followers work FOR you or WITH you?
Do you personally know the people you lead?
Have you listened to their story?
Discuss. Relationships are built on listening and caring. We add value to
others when we truly value others.

Serving others who follow you really purifies your motives and
helps you gain perspective.

THE LAW OF SOLID GROUND #6

Study applying to your life on page 70 and Appendix question on page 271

Character makes trust possible. And, trust makes leadership possible.

That is the Law of Solid Ground.
A. Your character communicates your leadership.
Do the people you work with openly share with you?
Think of a time when business colleagues openly shared with you.
Discuss why they were inclined to TRUST you.

B. When trust is gone, followers fall back.

Think of an example in your life when your trust was gone you fell back
What do you think was the cause?
How can you avoid that leadership pitfall?

C. What does integrity look like to you?

Consistency
Honesty be truthful even when the truth hurts
Authenticity be YOURSELF with EVERYONE
Discipline What is it that you dont always want to do? Do it!

D. Think of a leader you did NOT trust did he/she pretend to be someone
else?
Did his/her ego overshadow his authentic self?
Now, examine your own authenticity. Discuss how you can make some
changes now that you have examined your authentic, truthful self.

E. To build trust, a leader must exhibit competence, connection, and

character. Leaders who possess these live out their integrity values every
day.
How can you make changes in your daily life to express your integrity and
attract your followers to trust you. No one enjoys spending time with
someone he doesnt trust.
List the names of those people in your past (both personal and
professional) and make a decision to move forward in building trust by
making amends to each and every person.
List the names of those people in your present life and make a decision to
move forward in building trust and discuss your action steps.

Remember People Do What People See.

The only thing that walks back from the tomb with the mourners and refuses to be
buried is the character of a man. This is true. What a man is survives him.
It can never be buried.
