Matthew 25 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Story of the Virgins
Virgin defined - Those whose hearts are pure toward God. Those who truly
desire a relationship with God. Untouched by worldly enticements.
Unmarried. Undefiled.
Virgins are of great worth (dowry). Someone who has kept themselves, set
aside for God.

Verse (v)- 1. Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins
who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.
Commentary (C)- Here 10 virgins could represent 10 people, male or
female who are started out seeking the light(lamp) relationship with
Jesus Christ.
V 2 Five of them were foolish (thoughtless, without forethought) and
five were wise (sensible, intelligent, and prudent).
C -Five of them were hungry for more revelation and were committed to a
deeper relationship and five were not.
V 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take any [extra]
oil with them;
C -Those that were 'foolish' begin a relationship (accepted the light)
Jesus as their Savior and Lord, but did not invest in anything
further. They did not seek more of the anointing (via the Holy Ghost,
teacher) to maintain and develop their relationship with Jesus.
V 4 But the wise took flasks of oil along with them [also] with their
lamps.
C -Those that were 'wise' developed themselves by spending the time with
the Holy Ghost, becoming carriers of the anointing with 'extra' within
themselves to share the light (lamp).

V 5 While the bridegroom lingered and was slow in coming, they all began
nodding their heads, and they fell asleep.
C -Jesus is longsuffering in giving all time to repent and come into the
light, using their anointing in preparation for His coming.
All of us sometimes get weary in our walk with God. The 'foolish' may
become weary in living their day to day lives apart from God.
The wise may become weary as a result being carriers of the light.
V 6 But at midnight there was a shout, Behold, the bridegroom! Go out to
meet him!
C - When Jesus comes, no one knows the day or time, however we must be
prepared to meet Him!
V 7 Then all those virgins got up and put their own lamps in order.
C -All are responsible for their walk with Christ and must keep their
anointing fresh being ready to be carriers of the light at any moment.
V 8 And the foolish said to the wise, Give us some of your oil, for our
lamps are going out.
C -The 'foolish' virgins asked the 'wise' for some of their anointing
for their light connection/relationship with Jesus, was going out.
V 9 But the wise replied, There will not be enough for us and for you;
go instead to the dealers and buy for yourselves.
C -The 'wise' said the relationship they have is personal and each must
seek their own. Be willing to offer of their time and money to purchase
the precious anointing for themselves. To seek those that offer the precious
word of God they are dealers/teachers/ of the anointing.
V 10 But while they were going away to buy, the bridegroom came, and
those who were prepared went in with him to the marriage feast;
and the door was shut.
C - When the 'foolish' awoke they went out to get the oil it was not
stored up or carried within them. Those that were carriers of the oil
were prepared and went in with the Bridegroom to the marriage feast. Going in with

Him, could be the rapture, when we are taken to heaven to sit at the
Master's table.
V 11 Later the other virgins also came and said, Lord, Lord, open [the
door] to us!
C Later the 'foolish' virgins came to get into the marriage feast,
crying out Lord, Lord open the 'door'.
V 12 But He replied, I solemnly declare to you, I do not know you [I am
not acquainted with you].
C -The Bridgegroom replied, solemnly, honestly, that He did not even
know them. Was not acquainted with them in relationship, knowledge of
their ministry, acquainted with any sharing of the gospel or works done with
the light/anointing that they first had.

V 13 Watch therefore [give strict attention and be cautious and active],

for you know neither the day nor the hour when the Son of Man will come.
C - The parable lesson here is to always seek God and the anointing of
God. Continue to develop a personal relationship with Him, Keep yourself
Full of light, God's work, his anointing, his teaching. For we don't know
when He is coming back. But we do know He is coming...
