His Excellency Dr. Mana Saeed Al Otaiba – Advisor to the President

of the UAE & Ruler of Abu Dhabi (His Highness Sheikh Zaid Bin
Sultan Al Nahayan) and ex Oil Minister of UAE.

His Excellency Dr. Mana Saeed Al Otaiba comes from the Al Otaiba
family‚ which is one of the most powerful families in the United Arab
Emirates as well as in the Arabian Gulf. Al Otaiba is part of the Al–
Morar tribe related to Marwan Bin Al–Hakam‚ and forms a part of the
Bani Yas Alliance.

Appointed as Minister of Petroleum and Industry in the first cabinet of

7. Overview
The commercial launch of Wateen's mobile WiMAX services
began with 22 major cities.
Wateen uses MOTOwi4 WiMAX by Motorola. Other partners include
Cisco, and Intel. Wateen is giving CPEi 600 & CPEi 300 to its indoor
usage while CPEo400 for outdoor usage to its customers.

8 WATEEN Network

8.1WiMAX.
WiMAX, meaning Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave
Access, is a telecommunications technology that provides wireless
transmission of data using a variety of transmission modes, from
point-to-multipoint links to portable and fully mobile internet access.
The technology provides up to 10 Mbit/s [1] broadband speed without
the need for cables. The technology is based on the IEEE 802.16
standard (also called Broadband Wireless Access). The name

"WiMAX" was created by the WiMAX Forum, which was formed in

June 2001 to promote conformity and interoperability of the standard.
The forum describes WiMAX as "a standards-based technology
enabling the delivery of last mile wireless broadband access as an
alternative to cable and DSL".

8.2.DTH:
Direct to home (DTH) Television uses a single satellite that
sends signals directly to your personal Mini-dish. All channels are
bounced off this satellite, and brought directly to your TV set via the
Dish. It offers you better picture quality as the picture is completely
retained in digital format. Besides elevating you to a new technology

you get - Hardware / Equipment Dish with LNB Set top box and cable
Viewing Card (VC)The Set top box with the VC will be installed in

on a Roof / Terrace / Veranda / Lawn etc wherever it can face the
direction of the satellite without any disruption blockage in between.

8.3 Longhaul
Wateen's state of the art Longhaul OFC network covers 71
major cities of the country and a distance of 5,000 plus kilometers in
the form of five fully redundant, self healing rings and spurs. Keeping
in view the latest technological developments, Wateen has deployed
a hybrid of G652/G655 having multi-terabyte capacity to cater for the
ever increasing demands of the country’s telecom sector. In the near
future, Wateen plans to extend its operations by connecting the Far
East & China, the Central Asian States & Afghanistan, Iran, India and
the Middle East, via landline and submarine Optic Fiber Cable
networks. These new ventures will establish Pakistan as a true leader
in the telecom sector in the whole Asia and Middle East region.

8.4 MetroRings
Owing to the ever increasing demand for high bandwidth
connectivity within the cities, Wateen is deploying Metro OFC network
in major cities of the country. In the first phase, Lahore, Karachi,
Islamabad and Faisalabad have been covered with a total route of
350 plus kilometers, while in the second phase, Multan, Sahiwal,
Gujranwala, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Quetta, Abbotabad, Jehlum,
Peshawar, D.I. Khan, Sialkot, Gujrat and Sargodha are being
covered.These city-wide networks cover major commercial areas of
the cities, and are deployed according to international standards, in
the form of fully redundant rings. These Metro Rings will not only
connect customer sites within a city but also provide last mile access
connectivity for Wateen Longhaul customers.Features Dark Fiber

8.5 HFC:
Wateen multimedia has started its roll out of HFC network in
DHA – Lahore for offering triple play services to the residents. HFC
(Hybrid fiber – coaxial) is a telecommunication industry term which
incorporates both optical fibers along with coaxial cable to create
broadband network. It has been successfully deployed by cable
operators since 1990’s. The fiber optic network extends to the main
head end out to a virtual hub and finally to a fiber optic node. Each
node will be able to service houses without amplifiers to provide that
optimal output quality, our network topology ensures quality and
optimal signal output strength. Through the HFC cable service
Wateen will be offering multiple local and international in house
channels.

16. Issues in WATEEN Telecom. Wateen is providing true

broadband internet with the wimax technology which is a fast wireless
network. But there is still some issues in this network the main issue
is coverage issue in Peshawar. The Peshawar city boundaries are
Ring road, Charsadaroad, WarsakRoad, Phase 1 And Phase 6. We
can not sale out of these Boundries. Within the boundaries there are
many places where as no Wimax signals due to that our sales
channels are disturb and due to these signal issue the customer are
facing different kinds of Problems due to these signal issues Our
coverage areas become very little. Wateen is a movable internet
customer can move it within the city anywhere where he can find the
signals he can use the internet but some time signals issue appear.
