Vital Reading Quests

Reading is an integral part of the Language Arts
curriculum. Homework every night is to spend 1520 minutes reading from the book of your
choice. Parents, please support your reader! Read
with them, ask questions about what they're
reading, take them to the library- there is so much
you can do sow your student that literacy is
important!
We will also use an online reading tool,
www.readtheory.org to assist in comprehension and
analysis. Readtheory is expected to be completed
one night out of the week and qualifies as 20
minutes of reading. Students earn points for prizes
and a quarterly grade.
Finally, every student is expected to read 20
Books and document their reading through book
summaries. Each student must have 5 books read
per quarter. Books that we read in class will count
towards the 20 books. We will read the following
novels:
o Seedfolks by Paul Fleischmen

o Origin by Jessica Khoury

o Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli
o Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikalsen
o The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
Summary forms are available on the website and
must be signed by a parent or guardian.
