A. Introduction
The M3 is a HiFiclass digital audio player, supporting lossy and lossless music
formats including MP2, MP3, WAV, WMA, APE, FLAC, and Ogg Vorbis. A maximum
sample rate of 96kHz/24bit is supported and other features include CUE sheet
support, playlist support and auto sleep / shutdown. The following sections are an

C. FirmwareUpdates
Firmware updates may update the player with new features and optimize the
playback experience; not upgrading to the latest firmware does not affect current
operation of the unit. The unit supports firmware upgrades via update files loaded
into the internal memory of the M3. Improper operation during firmware updates
may cause the unit to malfunction! Please read the following instructions for
firmwareupdatescarefullybeforeproceeding.

Beforeupdating:
1. Please ensure that the M3 is adequately charged, preferably fully charged,
beforeupdatingthefirmware,topreventlossofpowerduringtheupdate.
2. You can only enter the shortcuts menu and from there the settings menu and

thefirmwareupdateoptionbyholdingthemenubuttonfromtheNowPlaying
screen. Therefore, please load the M3 with at least one song and play a song
beforeattemptingtoupdatetheM3.
3. YoumaygotoSettings>Playerinformation(onlastpage)tocheckthefirmware
versionoftheM3.

ToupdatetheM3'sfirmware:
1. ExtractandcopyM3.hextotherootdirectoryoftheinternalstorageoftheM3.
2. While playing a song on the M3, in the Now Playing screen, hold the menu
button(upperleftbuttononmainpanel)toopentheshortcutsmenu; choose
andselectthecogiconatthebottomtoentersettingsmenu; click"up"onceto
choose"Autoupgrade"attheendoftheSystemsettingsmenuandselectitto
update the firmware, select the tick to confirm; the following screens will
appearwhiletheupdateisinprocess.


DonotpushtheM3sbuttonswhiletheupdateisinprocess.
3. TheM3willupdateitsfirmwareandthenreboot.
Itisnormalforthefirstrebootaftertheupdatetotakelongerthanusual.
4. ChooseyourpreferredlanguagefortheM3again.

Notes:
1. Songs / data in internal storage would not be deleted by firmware update
process.
2. If the internal storage had been reformatted by a connected computer, update
may fail. To solve this problem, reformat the internal storage using the
Settings>FormatinternalmemoryoptionontheM3.Pleasebackupdata/songs
ontheinternalmemoryfirstasformattingdeletesalldatathere.
3. ThefirmwareupdatefileM3.hexwouldberenamedM3~.hexaftertheupdate
(toavoidduplicateupdates).Itisrecommendedtoconnecttothecomputerand
manuallydeletethisfileafterwards.

PlayModereferstothewayinwhichtheM3choosesthenextsongtoplay.
TheM3canchoosebetween

b. Addtoplaylist
Selectthisoptiontoaddthenowplayingsongtoabuiltinplaylist.
The3builtinplaylistsontheM3are:Favorites,Playlist1andPlaylist2.
Press OK on this option to show the 3 playlists. Press Up / Down to choose
betweenthe3playlistsandOKtoaddthenowplaylistsongtotheselectedplaylist.
To confirm the addition, press OK once more. To cancel, use Up / Down to
choosexbuttoninconfirmationdialogorsimplypresstheMenubutton.

c. Equalizer
Select this option to change the equalizer effect applied to the M3s sound
output.Thefollowingoptionsareavailable:
Off:Noequalizerapplied;
Builtinequalizers(fixed):Rock,Blues,Metal,Jazz,Classical,Electronic;

d. Songinfo
Select (press OK on) this option to display various info about the now playing
song.
The info shown (from top to bottom) are as follows: file name, album name,
artist name, genre name, bitrate, sample rate, file size, song duration, and
numberofchannels.
Pressthemenubuttontoexittheinfoscreen.

e. Delete
Select(pressOKon)thisoptiontodeletethenowplayingsong.
Confirmation dialog will appear, showing name of the song to be deleted.
Cancel(x)iconisselectedbydefault. Tocancel,choosexiconandpressOK
(orsimplypressMenubutton).
To confirm deleting the song, use Up / Down button to choose icon and
pressOKtoselect.
DeletedeletesthesongfullyfromtheM3andnotjustfromanyplaylistthe
songmaybein.Donotuseunlessyoudontwanttolistentothissongonthe
M3again.

f. Settings
Select(pressOKon)thisoptiontoshowthevariousotheroptionsfortheM3(as
listedin5.Settingsbelow)forreviewandadjustment.

5.Settings
The settings can be categorized into Play Settings and System Settings. These are
showntogetherinonelist,withPlaySettingsinthefirstpageandSystemSettingsin
the2ndand3rdpages.

a. Playsettings
The6playsettingsoptionsare:Resumemode,FadeIn/Fadeout,Maxvolume,
Defaultvolume,BalanceandPreferredDisplay(AlbumorLyrics).

1) Resumemode
ThisoptionenablestheM3torememberthesongbeingplayedandstartplaying
from this song the next time the M3 powers off and backon. Press OK or Right to
cyclethroughOff,SongandPosition.
Off:

playerdoesnotresumeplaybackafterpoweron
Song:
on power on, player resumes playback from the start of the last
songbeingplayedwhenplayerwaspoweredoff
Position: on power on, player resumes playback from exactly where it was
(samesong,samepositioninsong)whenplayerwaspoweredoff

2) Fadein/Fadeout
This fades out (turns down volume gradually) the end of the currently playing
trackandthenfadesin(turnsvolumebackupgradually)thenexttrack.
PressOKorRighttoswitchthisOfforOn. DefaultisOn.

3) Maxvolume
ThisadjuststhemaxvolumeatwhichtheM3wouldplaymusic(e.g.forhearing
protection).Availablerangeis30to60.
Press OK on this option to show adjustment slider, then press Up / Down to
adjustsliderandOKtosavechangesandreturntosettingsmenu(orpressMenuto
cancel).
Adjustmentrangedoesnotgodownto0;thisistoavoidusersfrombeingunabletomake
theM3makesoundandmistakeitforamalfunction.

4) Balance
Thisadjuststhevolumebalancebetweenleftandrightchannels.Availablerange
isfromL10(leftsidelouder)to0(centered)toR10(rightsidelouder).
Press OK on this option to show adjustment slider, then press Up / Down to
adjustsliderandOKtosavechangesandreturntosettingsmenu(orpressMenuto
cancel).

5) Defaultvolume
ThiscanbesettoMemoryorCustom.
Memory:recallsthevolumesetwhentheplayerwaspoweredoff.
Custom: always powers on the player at the volume defined in Fixed volume
setting.
Press OK on this option and use Up / Down to choose between Memory and
CustomandOKtoselect.IfCustomischosen,volumesliderwillappear.PressUp/
Down to adjust poweron volume and OK to confirm (or Menu to cancel). Custom
volumevaluewillappearnexttoDefaultvolumebackinthesettingsmenu.

DefaultvolumeissubjecttolimitationbytheMaxvolume.

6) Preferreddisplay
This decides whether Lyrics or Album (art) is shown in the Now Playing screen
whenbothareavailablefortheplayingsong.
PressOKorRighttochoosebetweenLyricsandAlbum(art).

b. Systemsettings
1) Language
TheM3supports10differentlanguages:SimplifiedChinese,TraditionalChinese,
English,German,Spanish,French,Russian,Japanese,KoreanandThai.
Press OK on this option to show the language selection menu, Up / Down to
choose your preferred language and OK to select the new language (or Menu to
cancel).

2) UpdateMediaLib(UpdateMediaLibrary)
The Media Library needs to be updated for songs to be shown in Category
listings(exceptforFolderslistings).Themedialibraryupdatefunctioncanbesetto
AutoorManual:
Auto runs an update every time after a computer connection has ended or a
microSDcardhasbeeninserted.
Manual only runs an update upon your request. This can be useful e.g. if an
updatetakesalongtimeandyoumostlybrowsebyFolders.
TochangetheAuto/Manualsetting,pressOKorRightonUpdateMediaLib,Up
/DowntochoosebetweenAutoandManual,andOKtoselect(orMenutocancel).

TheManualsettingsetstheupdatetomanualandrunsanupdateimmediately.
Please wait patiently and do not push the M3s buttons while an update is running
(indicated by progress % and progress bar). After scan is complete, Completed will be
shownandtheM3willgobacktotheNowPlayingscreeninafewseconds.

3) Screentimeout(s)
Nomatterwhetherasongisplayingornot,theM3sdisplayturnsoffafterthe
set delay (in seconds) specified in Screen timeout (s) if no buttons have been
pressedontheM3inthattimeperiod.
The screen timeout can be set to 10s, 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s or ON (screen
alwayson).
PressOKonthisoptiontoshowadjustmentsliderforscreentimeout,Up/Down
toadjustthetimerandOKtoconfirmchange(orMenutocancel).

4) Brightness
Brightnessofdisplaycanbeadjustedin10stepsfrom1to10.
PressOKonthisoptiontoshowadjustmentsliderforbrightness,Up/Downto
adjustthebrightnessvalueandOKtoconfirmchange(orMenutocancel).

5) Idlepowerofftime(min.)
Ifnosongisplayingorsongplaybackispaused,theM3powersoffaftertheset
delay (in minutes) specified in Idle poweroff if no buttons have been pressed on
theM3inthattimeperiod.
TheIdlepowerofftimercanbesetto2to30minutesin9steps.
PressOKonthisoptiontoshowadjustmentsliderforIdlepowertime(min.),Up
/DowntoadjustthetimeandOKtoconfirmchange(orMenutocancel).

6) Sleeptimer(min.)
Use this option to set a timer for the player to power off after the specified
numberofminutes,regardlessofmusicplayingorbuttonpressesontheM3.Thisis
usefule.g.asatimerforlisteningatbedtime.
TheSleeptimercanbesettoOffor10to120minutesin12steps.
Press OK on this option to show adjustment slider for Sleep timer (min.), Up /
DowntoadjustthetimeandOKtostartthetimer(orMenutocancel).
Afterthesleeptimerisset,aclockiconwillappearonthestatusbarontopofthedisplay.
Thesleeptimerwillresettooffafterithastriggered(turnedtheM3off).

7) Playerinformation
SelectthisoptiontodisplaythefollowinginfoontheM3(inthisorder):player
model,firmwareversion,internalstorage(totalsize),internalstorage(availablesize),
micro SD card (total size), micro SD card (available size), number of songs stored,
playerserialnumber,andplayerNBcode.
PressOKonthisoptiontoshowthisinformation,pressMenuorOKtoreturnto
settingsmenu.

8) Formatinternalmemory
Usethisoptiontoformatthe8GBinternalmemoryoftheM3(e.g.ifithasbeen
formattedintoanincompatibleformatbymistake,whentheM3wasconnectedtoa
computer).
PressOKonthisoptiontoshowconfirmationdialog,Up/Downtochoose
iconandpressOKagaintoconfirmandformattheinternalmemory.OrpressMenu
tocancel.
Pleasebackupanysongsanddatastoredintheinternalmemorybeforeformatting,as
alldatawillbedeletedbyformatting.
TheM3willformattheinternalmemorytoFAT32format; thisisrequiredforfirmware
updates.

9) Storageformatting(formatmicroSDcard)
Use this option to format the micro SD card inserted into the M3 (e.g. if it is
formattedinaformatincompatiblewiththeM3).
PressOKonthisoptiontoshowconfirmationdialog,Up/Downtochoose
iconandpressOKagaintoconfirmandformatthemicroSDcard.OrpressMenuto
cancel.
PleasebackupanysongsanddatastoredinthemicroSDcardbeforeformatting,asall
datawillbedeletedbyformatting.
TheM3willformatthemicroSDcardtoFAT32format.

10) Restorefactorydefaults
Use this option to reset all options on the M3 to factory defaults. Press OK on
thisoptiontoshowconfirmationdialog,Up/Downtochoose iconandpressOK
againtoconfirmandrestorefactorydefaults.OrpressMenutocancel.

YoumaytrythisoptionifyourM3encountersanyunexpectedmalfunctions.

11) Autoupgrade
This is the option used for updating the M3s firmware. For instructions on
firmwareupdates,pleaserefertosectionC.FirmwareUpdates.

F. TipsonUsage
ThissectioncontainssomeusefulttipsforyoutogetthemostoutofyourM3.
1. Howtoupdatethemedialibraryquicklywithnewlyaddedsongs?
A: Set Se ngsSystem Se ngsUpdate Media Lib to Auto and the M3 will
automatically update the media library every time the M3 finishes connection
withacomputeroramicroSDcardisinserted.

2. Howtoplaymyfavoritesongsquickly?
A:Whileyourfavoritesongsareplaying,holdMenubuttontoshowQuickMenu
and choose + to add the song to a playlist; you can then play your favorite
songsfrom theplaylists.(pressMenubuttonbrieflywhilemusicisplaying,first
optionontopisPlaylists) TheM3alsosupportsadditionandremovalofsongs
defined in .cue files to favorites as well for your enjoyment of lossless rips of
CDs/DVDs/etc.

A:Batterylifeisamatterthatconcernsusersalways.Thereareseveralfunctions
ontheM3tosavepower:
a. SleepMode:setsleepmodetoonwhenyouenjoythemusicatnightforfear
of forgetting to turn it off. Then it will turn itself off automatically after
reachingthesetduration.Notethatthesleeptimerwillresettooffafteritis
triggeredonce.
b. Idle Poweroff: set the Idle Poweroff time to a suitable time so that if you
pausethemusicandleavetheplayeridle(notpressinganyofitsbuttons),it
willturnitselfafterthesettime.

2. Placing too many songs on the M3 may also contribute to slowdowns.

pictures,maycausetheM3toslowdownwhilesiftingthroughthemlooking

4. Playing high bitrate files from slow micro SD card may cause stuttering.

5. Unpredictableorderingoffiles,suchasplacingseveral.apeand.cuefilesin
the same directory. The following directory structure is recommended:
createseparatefoldersforalbumsbythesameartist,andopensubfolders
withineachartistfoldertoholdsinglealbumsinseparatesubfolders.
6. A mixture of music files of several different codecs and sample rates may
also slow down the player. It is recommended to place files of different
codecsandsampleratesintoseparatefoldersandtoplayfilesofthesame
type in sequence from these folders, to prevent the M3 from having to
switchbetweendifferentdecodersfrequently.

3) WhydoestheM3getabithotinoperation?
A: The M3 utilizes an SoC with high clock speed, a separate DAC, and (also
separately) a high power headphone amplifier, thus dissipating way more
power than consumer DAPs typically performing computation, DAC and
amplification all on the SoC. Apart from outputting more power to your
