Costa Rica is the perfect tropical vacation with more wildlife, activities, variation in
landscape, and delicious food and drink for a lower cost than many destinations of a
similar climate. As the last month of summer approaches, we are offering great deals on
tours of Costa Rica for peak whale watching season. While you soak in the tropical blue
waters of the coast, watch for the majestic humpback whales making their annual
migration to warmer waters. For wildlife lovers, August is the time to experience Costa
Rica
Rica.
Food & Drink
The rich flavors of Costa Rica offer visitors a
diverse menu to suit the palates of visitors of
any age. Tropical fruits fresh from the tree offer
bright, "vine-ripened" sweetness and fresh, juicy
textures unlike anything you have tasted in your
home markets. Tour fruit farms or pick up local
ingredients at the markets. Beautiful coffee
farms, like that at the Finca Rosa Blanca resort provide guests with scenic insights into
the coffee-growing and roasting processes and tickle the most ardent coffee-lovers'
senses with expertly cultivated beans. Simply the smell is enough to make coffee tours a

highlight for most, but the savory and decadent jolt will excite the taste buds of
aficionados. For adventurous beer and wine lovers, try beverages from the new craft
breweries and vineyards that are popping up in small villages across the country. Allow
traditional twists on rice and beans change your perspective on breakfast.

Adventure Activities
For those who prize action and adventure, Costa
Rica is in no shortage. Hike Arenal, an active
volcano with incredible views and geological
history. Choose between a number of thereand-back trails or more extensive circuit routes
followed by a soothing swim in the natural hot
springs.
If you are looking to cool off, enjoy a day of
rafting on the Pacuare River from the River Lodge
Lodge. The hanging bridges of Arenal offer a
unique view of the rain forest and its wildlife while bringing to life the spirit of adventure
evocative of Indiana Jones films. Don't miss out on canopy ziplining or rides on the sky
tram for incredible views of the forest and opportunities to see native birds.

Wildlife
Costa Rica offers stunning wildlife encounters
year-round. Many lodges boast beautiful trail
networks through the forests where guests can
see a rainbow of colorful treefrogs, beautiful leaf
bats, chameleons, sloths, armadillos, iguanas,
howler monkeys, or any number of the hundreds
of species of tropical birds that are native to
Costa Rica. The country is also home to many
protected beaches where endangered species of sea turtles (leatherbacks and green sea
turtles) lay their eggs.

In fact, the sea turtles primarily nest on the

Pacific Coast, which is the best place to do
whale-watching activities. In Tortuguero, visitors
can witness turtle hatching as early as the
beginning of August until October. Many visitors
enjoy finding voluntourism tours where they can
work to protect these species. Several lodges and
locations also offer early morning and dusk boat
tours that cater to the particular interest of wildlife photography. On rivers and waterways
it is easy to spot turtles, birds, crocodiles, and caimans. It is truly a haven for artists and
photographers.

Whale Watching!
August in Costa Rica presents you with the
unique opportunity to indulge in all of the
country's beauty, flavors, and adventures with
the added and unique experience of watching
the beautiful humpback whales which make their
peak appearance in August and can be seen until
October.
As the Antarctic seas begin to ice over during
southern winter, these beautiful animals begin
their journey to warmer waters where they can
breed and birth their young. The Center for
Cetacean Research of Costa Rica has named the
Golfo Dulce as critically important habitat for the survival of this endangered species of
