THEATRE
Students analyze a script to interpret the elements of theatre and the given
circumstances to create a character for a group or individual performance.
They analyze how the audiences behavior affects an actors performance
VISUAL ARTS
Students become visually literate thinkers and creators as they examine, produce, and
present original work.
They use aesthetic criteria to analyze and respond to art and make connections across
disciplines, cultures, place, and time.

Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are
appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.

* Role Requirements:
COMMUNITY ARTISTS:
Role: Paint mural as directed by art teachers at Dunlap Elementary.
Lead Artists (3) : Lead small artist teams of 5 community artists on sections of mural as
assigned by art teachers at Dunlap Elementary. Responsible for drawing original outlines
of images on their section of mural.
Community Artists: ( 15) Receive direction from Lead Artists. Responsible for painting
within outlines of sections.
EVENT PLANNERS:
Role: Plan community celebratory event for mural & theatre of oppressed event*
Social Media(2): Create Social Media events on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter about
event.
Media(3): Communicate with appropriate media sources in the community (newspaper&
radio)
Poster(2): Create poster design for event
Posting(3): Post flyers throughout community
Catering(2): Communicate and plan who will cater the event
Decorations(4): Create decorations for the event with banners around the themes of My
Education Matters and call around to get enough chairs and tables for 200 people.
* If event planners are done early, they are to assume the roles of community artists
DAY OF EVENT ROLES:*
Greeters (5): Welcome participants to the event and show them to the tables.
Table Hosts (15): Sit at a table with participants and talk about the My Education
Matters project.
Emcee(3): Speak on microphone announcing when participants can begin food, ribbon
cutting of revitalized mural, when the theatre of oppression will commence and how to
stay involved with event.
Participants in Theatre of Oppressed: (10) Participate in theatre of oppressed by
suggesting topics, acting out roles and encouraging others to participate
Cleaning ( all): Clean all tables, take down decorations, recycle, compost & throw away,
sweep and mop.
